What else do we need this offseason?

If the Marlins trade Dan Uggla, they would use the savings to sign at least one free agent. John Buck is a target for the Marlins regardless of whether they trade or extend Uggla.

So, basically, our catching solution is to overpay for a poor man's Ronnie Paulino when we already have Ronnie Paulino on the roster? Hmmm...

Seriously, lets try to get a catcher in the Dan Uggla trade. These free agent catchers suck (the only one I'd consider as an ok stopgap option is Torrealba). The only good thing about Buck is that he's not a Type A free agent (unlike Pierzynski).

John Buck has a .798 OPS over the last two years. He hits for a LOT more power than Ronnie Paulino. That's a pretty terrible misrepresentation of his skill set.

Career .235/.288/.406 (.693 .OPS) against right-handed pitching.

Just like Paulino, Buck is not good against right-handed pitching. Paulino actually hits lefties better, and plays better defense than Buck. Buck had a career year in terms of power last year. You keep talking about his 2009, which should be irrelevant. He wasn't even his team's starting catcher, and despite the fact his power #'s were nice, his defense was so bad that his WAR was ~0.5.

I'm not a big fan of throwing money at a guy just because he had one good season (because he had a career year in terms of power #'s...everything else sucked).
