A free agent two time All Star with some lefthanded power. Marlins could use some lefty pop in the outfield if he can come back to form. Seems like an inexpensive experiment to me.

No, you saw that last season in left field for the Marlins last season. Hawpe has limited range and a tremendous arm.

Coghlan is a better defensive outfielder than Hawpe. Brad is Manny terrible. It's a special kind of terrible.

 

And Hawpe would be amazing if he would accept a bench 4th outfielder role just to smash against right handers, but he's going to want to play a lot more and will get a good DH type gig in the American League. Plus, the Marlins really need an option that can help in CENTER FIELD. This isn't a very good fit.

I don't know if Kotsay can man CF anymore but I think he would be a nice, cheap LH option off the bench that can play both corner OF spots as well as 1B and is a career .318 pinch hitter.

 

C Baker, 1B/3B Helms, 1B/OF Kotsay, UT Bonifacio, 2B/SS Murphy would be a pretty solid bench, IMO.
