PUDGE

Featured Replies

The question. Do we really need Pudge? If keeping Pudge means that we have to get rid of Castillo and Lowell then of course not. Pudge is a very good player and he showed that this year, but what he is commanding right now is terrible he knows the fish don't have that type of money to play one player but he says all the time he'd love to come back well show it and take that discount 'he's not going to be playing forever he's what 30? 31? and he's a catcher. I honestly feel like we don't need Pudge, lets keep our rotaion intact and most of our IF. Hopefully Castro'won't have to see time in jail and will be ready for next year because I personally feel he can play right now! Loook what he does when he PH. Thanx for listening I just felt like venting and ya'll can say what a stupid post but oh well I don't care..

The Marlins are growing more optimistic that they'll be able to re-sign Mike Lowell and Luis Castillo, but they've failed to make any progress with Ivan Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is believed to be looking for $50 million over five years, but that's just Scott Boras being Scott Boras. $30 million over three years is the best Rodriguez could possibly hope to do, and the Marlins only seem willing to go to $15 million over two years. The two sides have 16 days left to get a deal done, but it's looking more and more likely that the Marlins will be going with Ramon Castro and Mike Redmond behind the plate next season.

Get rid of pudge and get benito.

all of the above except we only get Benito if Castro is unable to play. Redmodn must stay in any scenario.

I'm pretty sure we can get benito here for 3 years 5 million, what u think?

i think anything more than 1 year is stupid

i think anything more than 1 year is stupid Oh i forgot, benito's probably only gonna play 2 more years,2 years 1.5 mill.

2 years, $1.5per? or total?

Total, who knows he might not even be able to play,so 1.5 total.

1.5?lol,that's gonna seem like a little bit of money to him,i think he rather retire, even though he's at home(marlins, miami.)

Keep Pudge and dump Castillo, for the good of the team. Pudge is way more popular than Castillo could ever hope to be around here. This team needs leadership. Fans need to have players that they can recognize, and Pudge is one of them. He needs to stay. If we wait, his price will drop anyway.

:thumbdown Rather keep luis,we have ramon and we could have benny,so there's n/p.

at this point, most of South Fla knows most of our players

Conine, Lowell, JBeck and others can be leaders you know...

Pudge is a luxury with two good catchers ready for play and another crop coming up in the minors.

Lowell, Castillo, and the bullpen should be the priorities. Pudge had his chance and is now going to have to eat the money.

Redmond is good?

Scott Boras is just wanting to see what team will cough up the 5 year 50 mil deal.

I personally do not see this happening. No disrespect to pudge, but you never give a catcher above 31 a 5 year deal! Too much of a risk. We know that pudge went through a rigorous workout to improve this year and stay away from injuries...but its just too much of a risk.

This is what i see happening: A 3 year deal (which is pushing it) for 24 million.

I want pudge to stay, and as much as I love Castro and Redmond, they will never be up to his caliber. Pudge is the best Catcher of his era, period. But even if he was the Dali Lama of Catchers, i wouldnt offer him anything more than a 3 year contract.

I don't think it's stupid, I think it's reality. Boras is pricing Pudge out of the Marlins market, and he knows it. And it's not a surprise. It's just good business. His client had a good year, with tons of publicity. He's a shoe in hall of famer, and he's going to get paid....beyond his value to this team. So it's time to let go.

I will also be surprised if Castillo is resigned. I saw somewhere where he was quoted as saying something like he didn't want to "be stupid about the money". That's the reality of the situation. He is at peak value around MLB, but not necessarily for the Marlins. I don't really see him fitting in with the Yankees, and that environment. But Boston will likely take a run at him. I would guess he's being advised not to take a low offer frm the fish, and to test the market.

There are other players available that can match, or put up similar numbers, at a much better value. It's probably time to let go of Luis too.

I agree that it time to let Luis go too. I dont feel comfortable spending $5MM + on a slap hitting 2B with no power and declining speed. He has a serious hip concern, at least in my mind, and to invest that much money and time in him to me is dangerous. I would rather shake his hand, say thanks, and move on. Same with Pudge - too much money when we can have Castro replace him at a fraction of the cost. Spend the money elsewhere - hell, you could go out and sign Millwood with the amount of money they are throwing at Castillo/Pudge. Better yet, Vlad Guerrero...
