July 13, 201114 yr I realize it's not a big deal to most on here but Dallas just sent me a text saying he has been moved to the pen.
July 14, 201114 yr Hopefully it's what he needs. Doesn't seem like his starting numbers are too good.
July 15, 201114 yr Author Hopefully it's what he needs. Doesn't seem like his starting numbers are too good. Well stats are an interesting thing. They don't tell the whole story sometimes. For example. There isnt a stat that shows that the Suns (AA) went 7-4 in Dallas Starts. May not seem that very good until you also realize that one of those losses the game was tied when Dallas left the game. Dallas has a record of 1-3. However, the bullpen blew 3 games in which Dallas was leading so he could very well have been 4-3. Of course they also got him off the hook in two games he was behind in. Two starts ago Dallas had only thrown 47 pitches through 4 innings and was winning 2-1 in the top of 5 when a 2 hour rain delay forced him from the game. In his last start the manager decided to give the starting CF the day off...only to play a guy who has never played in the outfield in CF. I listened to this particular game and the opposing radio guy kept commenting on how the normal center fielder makes those plays. And this is the start that sent Dallas to the bullpen. In AAA the numbers are just as interesting. Yes he has a 7+ ERA. However, the Z's went 4-0 in Dallas' April starts. The Z ended up going 5-2 in Dallas' 7 starts. In one of his losses he only gave up 2 ER but 3 unearned gave him the 5-4 L. So what is my point? While stats are great they dont tell the entire story. Dallas is being typical Dallas and his goal is to go out and be the best reliever he can. I also know that the Marlins have no money invested in Dallas so he has to be perfect to get a shot. Hopefully he can be as a reliever

Hopefully he can be as a reliever Uh, he's given up 10.6 hits per 9 innings, and he's walked more guys than he's struck out. No offense, but he's fortunate that they see something in him to move him to the bullpen instead of just flat out releasing him. Blame the defense all you want, but the defense is bound to make some mistakes when the pitcher's K/9 is 3.7. I know his strength is getting groundballs, but that's just a terrible K rate. Is he better at the beginning of games than he is as the game goes on? Also, maybe he's much better against righties than lefties? This would make sense, considering that he's a sinkerballer. The move to the pen is the best thing for him, at this point. He's clearly not a starter.
July 15, 201114 yr I just checked Trahern's splits. He's been fine against righties; the lefties have hit him extremely well. As a bullpen arm, he won't see as many of these lefties. It's pretty clear that his career is that of a reliever, if he has a career in the sport at all. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=448249 Splits toward the bottom of the link.
