Posted July 15, 201113 yr Why do SOME, not all, Dolphins fans think the Dolphins are superior compared to every other sports franchise in this city? I don't understand it all all, kind of annoys the sh*t out of me actually. Some ignorant fans think that they are on a whole other level compared to the Marlins, Heat, Panthers... Like if they've won 20x Super Bowls or something. I understand that it's a Dolphins/Football town because they've been in Miami forever and have tradition but come on, why hate on the other teams in the city? I don't understand it. Just plain stupid IMO. Can anyone explain this to me? **For the record, I pull for the Dolphins, I am not a die-heart or HUGE fan or anything as I am Marlins but that's just because I prefer baseball over any other sport. However, I do pull for the teams in my city and hope they are successful.
July 16, 201113 yr They're an older franchise with more history. They have a bigger fanbase, bandwagoners non-included. The people you're speaking of are no different than a Yankees/Mets fan looking at a Marlins fan, a Montreal Canadiens fan looking at a Panthers fan, or a... I dunno basketball is completely different it's such an individualistic and modern sport that you can't even comment on the teams.
July 16, 201113 yr I have met those same rude fans. It's funny they'd be that way towards the Marlins since, when was the last time they did anything? Besides choke, pretending they'd actually go somewhere? Exactly.

Ok I understand they are an older franchise, but what does that have to do with bashing the Marlins?
July 17, 201113 yr I see this all the time around Miami and while the Marlins are usually the ones being insulted, I've seen it all kinds of ways. I've seen Dolphins and Heat hate from Marlins fans and vice versa. I have no clue why it is that way in Miami. I will tell you that the media around here doesn't help the case for the Marlins. The other day when Jeter got his 3,000th hit, it was on the front page of the Miami Herald sports online page. TheU and I did a little experiment to see if that is also the lead story in other baseball city newspapers, after searching for about 10-15 teams, I think Seattle was the only other city that had their newspaper feature Jeter and not their hometown team, every other town, even smaller market teams like Oakland, had their baseball teams game as the heading story and Jeter was secondary.
July 17, 201113 yr They were here first and have more tradition than the Heat, Marlins, and Panthers. Is it really that hard to see?.
July 17, 201113 yr We're one of the most historic franchises in NFL history, have much more tradition than the Marlins, and the Dolphins were here first. Plus, the NFL is the most popular sport in America, I believe, so I'm sure it's like this in other states. As for the hate between some Dolphins fans and Marlins fans, I think that has something to do with the stadium. Not really sure, though. I tend to believe this is a basketball city now, however. I don't care what anyone says, but as of right now, Miami supports the heat more than the Dolphins and Marlins. Both the Marlins and Dolphins have been mediocre for several seasons now, while the Heat won a finals in 06 and appeared in a Finals last season. On top of that, the Heat have a brighter future than both teams.
July 17, 201113 yr Author They were here first and have more tradition than the Heat, Marlins, and Panthers. Is it really that hard to see?. TRADITION, length being here should have nothing to do with it! Red Sox where there before the Pats, Phillies where there before the Eagles... However, BOTH cites support all their teams (NHL and NBA included). Thats the definition of true sports towns. Sure winning has a lot to do with it in general but I mean Dolphins fans act liked they've done some much more than any other team in the city. Don't see why its so hard to pull for every team in your city (that of course is if you aren't a fan of another baseball team.) But if you don't like baseball and are just a hardcore NFL/Dolphins fan they WHY THE HELL even bother hating on your hometown baseball team? Makes no sense, plain stupidity.
July 17, 201113 yr I think that part of the answer (to the general question) is that we have so many people from other places who have other allegiances. There are few native Floridians, and even many of them were fans of other teams before the Marlins, Heat, and Panthers came around. A lot of the people who "change" over to one or some of the local teams do so for a particular reason, yet often maintain their allegiance to one or more of their other (non-South Florida) teams. It's tough to find people who really root for all of the South Florida teams, and so there is a lot of the kind of conflict you mentioned. And since the Dolphins have indeed been around longer and have a larger fanbase, and their fans also often have the same non-Florida allegiances as everyone else. So, you see it more in Dolfans simply because there are more Dolfans and you deal with them more often.
July 17, 201113 yr The same way their fans can hate the Marlins, I know Marlin fans who hate the Dolphins. It is what it is.
July 17, 201113 yr The same way their fans can hate the Marlins, I know Marlin fans who hate the Dolphins. It is what it is. Not a fair fight. There are like 20 marlins fans I suppose, and opposing fans take over the stadium at times. Then again, I can say the same about the Dolphins. Guess we have something in common.

July 17, 201113 yr Imagine the insanity of all Phins fans when King Henne leads them to the mountain top this season. Marino who?

July 18, 201113 yr The Dolphins suck. Seahawks ftw. You just don't get it, do you? I get that the Dolphins suck.

Did you know that the local TV ratings of the '03 WS were higher than that of the '11 NBA Finals? Local media coverage does not equal team popularity.
