May 9, 201214 yr There's been some demand but not much. Most people haven't weighed in at all. The only way I'll bring them back at all though even as just text is if I can figure out a way to have them default as off for everyone and just be an option each user can enable to view them. As of yet, I haven't figured that out. Right now, I'm not optimistic about figuring out the default off. It seems like there'd need to be a lot of code modified and again, I prefer it where there are just no signatures universally. It looks to be a lot of time and effort for an option possibly not many would even enable. Also, el penguino does have a point with the speed of the board. Each page load requires querying the signatures if a user has them enabled. With them off for all, that saves a lot of queries. Over the past week, I've spent some time really optimizing the board and *knock on wood* it's been running really well the past few days. I'd hate to disrupt that as I think we can all agree that the board running smooth is more important than a signature.
May 9, 201214 yr Nothing to do with signatures but is there a possible reason as to why when I come on the site in the morning (about 2.30-3am ET for you guys) that pages dont seem to load?
May 9, 201214 yr That's when the daily backup runs so it slows things down, gotta run it sometime. Sorry to the international folks.
May 9, 201214 yr Is there really that much of a demand to have them back at all? I would guess that most people are glad that the site loads at the fastest rate it ever has. I still have issues loading the forums. MB.com will load, and when I click on the forums it'll open to the front page, but when I click on my favorite 'View New Content' button, it stalls for a bit (~1 minute) but then everything runs smoothly after that, usually.

Things have improved a bunch, though, from where they were 3-4 years go.
May 9, 201214 yr I just remember how Admin used to have to turn sigs off while a game was in progress. That sort of showed me how much of a dead weight those things were. And seriously, nobody should have to look at my Jorge Julio picture ten thousand times.

I'll optimize the search index and see if that fixes it up. It won't ever be instant but it shouldn't take that long.
May 9, 201214 yr The only reason I'd want them back is for the Adopt a Marlin stats posting, but other than that the board runs smoother now.
May 9, 201214 yr How about you put the Adopt A Marlin stuff as the user title instead? Like where you have the Andino line.
May 9, 201214 yr meh, my Andino writing over my avatar is a permanent for me I think just doing the draft without posting the stats will be fine. Not really worth changing the system for.

May 9, 201214 yr Just optimized the search index (that's why the board was slow for a few minutes). Let's see if this speeds up "View New Content" any.
May 9, 201214 yr View New Content seems better but still not as fast as I'd like, I'll try to run another script overnight and see if that improves things for tomorrow. Don't want to slow the board down again as it's starting to get busier for the evening.
May 9, 201214 yr It's working good right now. When I say slow moving, I literally meant I'd go and load another web forum up and make a post or two before it'd open. I'll keep you up to date if it continues to do that but it doesn't seem like it.
May 9, 201214 yr Great, I think it was slower on my first attempt because the board load was still going to normal after the script. I'll leave it as is until I hear otherwise from you since you probably use it most. Thanks.
