Posted October 15, 201113 yr Posted at the U of Miami Scout.com Message board by LoveUMBB (Betsy)...... Coach Morris also announced tonight on the AllCanes Radio Show that the Canes will be playing the Marlins again this year but this time at the Miami Marlins new stadium. The game is set for Wednesday March 7th. First pitch set for 1:05 p.m. Does anyone have confirmation on this ?
October 15, 201113 yr Author I personally would love to see the U of Miami host a college baseball tournament there every March......Miami used to have college baseball tournaments that time of year because the college players can play more games being on spring break.
October 15, 201113 yr I like both ideas. Teams in the south typically hold tornament consisting of mostly northern teams because it is still too cold or snowy for them to play. We played a team from Iowa when I was in college. It was March and they had yet to even have an on field practice because of snow.
October 16, 201113 yr I know they (Samson) were talking about this as a possibility earlier in the year. I personally don't like it but whatever.
October 16, 201113 yr I'm not sure what is not to like...I like the idea of having a college tourney there in March....
October 16, 201113 yr I hope the Marlins get to charge the 'canes a ridiculous amount of money for using their ballpark (or would the city receive the money in that scenario?)
October 16, 201113 yr Author I'm not sure what is not to like...I like the idea of having a college tourney there in March.... It certainly would bring in some much needed revenue to pay for the building. I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen. It could be Miami, FAU (or Florida) and two northern teams. Miami will not play FIU unless forced to in the NCAA playoffs, so I would rather doubt Miami would participate if they wanted FIU. And unless you have Miami play, it probably wouldn't be able to draw the numbers needed to make it profitable. U of Miami baseball has a great following and great tradition (4 NCAA National Championships & 39 straight NCAA appearances - an NCAA record in any NCAA sport) and would guarantee at least 3,000 people a game, and probably more if it was a Miami vs Florida matchup, maybe as many as 7,000 to 8,000 and if you brought in a school like Texas and another national power, you could have with each team playing at least 3 games and a championship game over 30,000 easy for the tournament. That would make some nice money I am sure.
October 16, 201113 yr Author I hope the Marlins get to charge the 'canes a ridiculous amount of money for using their ballpark (or would the city receive the money in that scenario?) Why ? The Canes aren't responsible for ANY of the Marlins problems. The Dolphins and their ownership are. As a matter of fact the Marlins and U of Miami have a great working relationship and its the reason they play each other every spring training.

October 16, 201113 yr I'm not sure what is not to like...I like the idea of having a college tourney there in March.... Because I don't like that the Marlins won't play the first game in their home.
October 16, 201113 yr Author My dream is eventually for the ACC Tournament to be held there in May. If the Marlins are on a nice road trip it could be done, and no chance of rain delays. The Tournament starts on a Wednesday and is over on Sunday. Easy to do.
