Posted December 6, 201113 yr I am a long time reader of this blog, but relatively new time poster. I always remember enjoying MarlinsLou breaking down the $$$numbers when it came down to the team payroll. I would love to see MarlinsLou payroll breakdown of the projected 2012 opening day roster. Who can we fit? If we don't land Pujols, does that mean we are willing to use another $150-200 million in Free Agency this year?
December 6, 201113 yr We keep him in a cryogenic freezer until around February. We may have to make an exception this season. Bring him out.
December 6, 201113 yr problem is, up to now we typically had a good idea of what the team payroll would be, so we'd see which players they could fit into a 40 million payroll, etc. Now, who the hell knows where payroll is going to wind up.
December 6, 201113 yr Author Now, who the hell knows where payroll is going to wind up. I picture it like a game of Plinko from the Price is Right, and Jeffery Loria is standing high above and dropping down coins and landing them into various "free-agents"...Bell, Reyes....I'm thinking he has another 2-3 coins
December 6, 201113 yr Payroll estimates are very easy to cook up as long as you can predict arbitration values. And you can get those off of sites like MLB trade rumors if you don't want to make your own. However, nobody knows for certain yet how the money owed to Bell and Reyes will be allocated (it probably won't be divided evenly) over the course of their contracts, so it's unlikely that any payroll estimate will be accurate right now.
