Yahoo Sports' Condescension

Caution: Rant Ahead

Why does every Marlins article from Yahoo Sports have to include some comment about how the Marlins fleeced the taxpayers. I understand the need for Jeff Passan's exposé when the stadium deal was first worked out, but why do they feel the need to continue to include snide remarks whenever commenting on the Marlins. I'm suprised the editors have not curtailed this obvious bias reporting, as it questions the credibility of Yahoo Sports' journalism. I prefer their layout to the other big sports sites, but I can't see myself continuing to read their baseball coverage with such trite comments.

Here are a couple examples from the past few days that are completely irrelavnt to the story at hand.

All the tropical-tinged newness the Miami Marlins could squeeze out of local taxpayers

Thanks to the craftiness of Loria, the gullibility of county officials and the resulting Marlins Park, Lachemann might have spoken a couple decades too soon

I attribute it to the general stupidity of reporters.

They apparently don't know the difference between general revenues and revenues from, say, the hotel bed tax, or, to be more specific, the 1% of the 6% (one sixth, not .01/dollar) of the total hotel bed tax that gets spent on the stadium, and can't be spent on anything else that would be of any interest to the reporter.

Be nice to tourists, they're paying for the ball park.

They probably know, they just do not care, because with a simple change of the law that bed tax could be spend on flying blankets to homeless refugees in some country that hates us.

here's my fave part:

Setting aside momentarily the sordid backstory of how Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria was able to finance the $600 million stadium by misleading Miami-Dade County commissioners about the team’s finances, the finished product is something to behold.

good stuff yahoo.
