December 4, 200322 yr I think we could go out on a limb and tel pudge listen u get 2 yrs 14 mill which is only 7 a year..hes lookin for 10 a year but no one will give it to him and as sunday approaches he is eager to get the deal done..but no one but us wants him..everyone wants a cheaper alternative and i bet if we were to offer 7 mill a year that noone would match it cuz ppl have lost intrest in pudge..why? i dunno? maybe cuz hes still an injury risk or maybe cuz the money hes asking isnt wut his numbers are worth? anyways i think he will be in the same place as he was last year struggling at the last moment to find a team to sign him and we could get in there and take him real cheap...
December 4, 200322 yr anyways i think he will be in the same place as he was last year struggling at the last moment to find a team to sign him and we could get in there and take him real cheap... problem is that if we dont sign him by Sunday he will be struggling for a contract with some other team we have until Dec 7.... the rest of the MLB have till whenever their hearts content
December 4, 200322 yr Thing is, Sunday isn't the last minute for Pudge, only for us. We're kind of in a bad negotiating position when we want him back, yet we have to end negotiations around a month earlier than normal...
December 4, 200322 yr Author yea i know thats y we should offer about 7 a year b4 sunday and he will think to himself " i should take this money now b4 i go out there in the open market and get less from other teams".
December 4, 200322 yr Pudge is greedy enough to not do that. I think if we make it $8 mil per for 3 guaranteed years he'd do it, he'd be stupid not to. The money with Pudge doesn't scare me, it's the length of the deal. I think we're going to have to go to 3 years because he hasn't jumped at 2...
December 4, 200322 yr You may be right, but it doesn't seem to me that Pudge will go for $7M a year. We need to give a bit, so 3 yrs at $24M would be fair for all. A discount off last year, and comparable to what Pudge might expect in take-home pay from other clubs. The 3rd year should be an option based on performance....plate appearances, etc. Now if we could also defer a good part of that salary, it would give us some room to manuever in the bullpen.
December 4, 200322 yr the Marlins have already been rumored to been offered 3 years for 20 mil by this fish. which is roughly 6.6 mil
December 4, 200322 yr Author thats a rumor the marlins are not stupid enough to offer a garbage deal like that of 6.6 mill which boras would laugh at..thats a rumor and theres no way the marlins would offer that cuz its an insult..3 yr 24 mill sounds about right...and if he dont want it MLB.com already reports that if the marlins dont sign him by sunday they will turn their attention to Javy lopez.
December 4, 200322 yr MLB.com already reports that if the marlins dont sign him by sunday they will turn their attention to Javy lopez. link?
December 4, 200322 yr MLB.com already reports that if the marlins dont sign him by sunday they will turn their attention to Javy lopez. link? from mlb.com Atlanta is still the favorite to sign Lopez, but the Marlins, if they are unable to sign Ivan Rodriguez by Sunday, might turn their attentions to Lopez.

We'll take Javy and the Orioles can have Pudge If Javy signs with the O's then there will be no other team willing to take pudge since many are cutting payroll.
December 5, 200322 yr Pudge wants 5 year 50 Million. When we signed Lowell and Castillo we offered him 3 years 16 million but he still hasnt said nothing. He wont be signing with us (sorry pudgefan) but he wants alot of money and a home discount for him is 5 years 50 Million? Please.
December 5, 200322 yr Javy Lopez or Pudge, both are very good catchers and they'd both be popular here in South Florida.
December 5, 200322 yr SI says that baltimore has been spending alot of time getting money for this offseason, they say they have the potention to havce vlad and pudge, so obviously money is not a factor to the o's
December 5, 200322 yr Actually, I heard on ESPNews that the Marlins will probably keep Pudge because the O's said they want Lopez.
December 5, 200322 yr I'd love to see him back. Unfortunately, we can't afford him. If he accepts 2 year 14 million, that's great. But we shouldn't be offering him a big contract.
December 5, 200322 yr am i the only one who wouldnt mind seeing pudge go, seeing what casrto can do, and using the money for something else, like a top not bullpen pitcher or maybe a differnt firstbase,am
December 5, 200322 yr am i the only one who wouldnt mind seeing pudge go, seeing what casrto can do, and using the money for something else, like a top not bullpen pitcher or maybe a differnt firstbase,am I think there are still some good bullpen parts that can be had for cheap. I also don't think we'll get ANOTHER first baseman to competete with Choi- I'm thinking the job is his to lose.
