Has Crow done badly enough to warrant a DFA? I don't think so.

 

 

I don't think Crow gets sent down, but I do believe it comes down to Reid Brignac and Don Kelly for those bench spots.

 

 

Phelps and Solano are not locks simply because they have minor league options left. The numbers game does come up whether we it or not and both of them could be optioned down if the team wants to keep the other candidates instead.

 

If they can't or don't trade Hand or McKirahan and wanna keep Crow and won't go with an 8 man pen then Phelps is out of luck even with as good as he's been.

 

Solano is a definite frontrunner but let's not forget that last spring he was being optioned down until Ed Lucas broke his hand I believe on the same day Solano was going to New Orleans. The team loves him but if they wanna keep , say both Brignac and Kelly, then Solano can easily be sent down.

​I agree Phelps has earned the chance to be pitching up here but you can't say teams don't use minor league options to their advantage when constructing their rosters. I also wasn't posting what I think should happen (or what I myself would do) but what I thought the Marlins might do, considering their options. If they truly wanted to keep Hand, McKirahan, AND Crow, Phelps having an option left could have absolutely come into play regardless of how well he was pitching. In this case, now that it's done, McKirahan is gone and Crow went to the DL so the point is now moot. But you still cannot tell me that teams don't send players down solely because they have options, because they definitely do.
