Witnesses reported hearing screams coming from the Hechavaroa household, including a woman's voice saying, "Eres tremenda mierda, trata de golpearme con ese bate porque te aseguro que no me das" ("You are tremendous shit, try to hit me with that bat because I assure you you won't hit me") Witnesses also say that the Marlins shortstop tried to run away from police officers but was thrown out in between the front door and the police car. He saved up all of his strength and swung as hard as he could at a correctional officer, but the correctional officer bounced weakly to second base, uninjured.
