  • Outfielder Brandon Barnes is headed to the Marlins on a minors pact, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation tweets. The deal includes a Spring Training invite. Barnes, 30, figures to function as a depth piece after seeing time in the majors over parts of the last five seasons. He struggled to a .220/.250/.320 batting line in just 109 MLB plate appearances last year.

Brandon Barnes looks to fill the Cole Gillespie role from last year. Barnes should be in AAA with Destin Hood.

Brandon Barnes is perfect for that shitty seventh outfielder that comes up in late July after a few injuries and gets one shitty at bat a week but occasionally makes one cool defensive play on a random day game that no one was really watching. Aka Cole Gillespie, Kevin Mattison, Scott Cousins...any others I missed?

Sent from my Samsung that's way better than squall's shitty phone

Building depth at least. We have Destin Hood, Barnes, Matt Den dekker and Issac Galloway in AAA along with Yefri Perez
