Rangers want Big Red

well, so was delino deshields in that case! and still rather have redman, this past season has been pavanos best by far. before this year he hadnt prooved much at all

Redman had the best season by any of our pitchers in 2003, but it seems we are eager to give him away so easily. Don't discount what he accomplished the amount of innings he did it in. Beckett was incredible, yes, but in almost 100 fewer innings. That said I'd love to trade him for prospects only if it meant we get Vlad. We also might try to trade him now while his value is at its highest because I think he had some tired arm troubles towards the end of 2003.

still rather keep redman over pavano, redman has always had more potential than pavs.

Dude, have you forgotten that Pavano was traded for Pedro Martinez? Pavano wasn't traded for Pedro straight up.

It was Pavano AND Tony Armas Jr, who also turned out pretty well I'd say.

I agree w/ you Sham. I really hope if he's dealt, it's because they know they can get Vlad & they just need a few extra million freed up.

Redman can be traded. We just need to sign Helling again to start in place of Redman or put in Tejera.

Redman just doesnt fit into our rotation.

Would you care to explain why a lefty as Redman does not fit in our rotation? Why would we sign Helling, or put Tejera in the starting rotation when neither can be half the pitcher Redman already is? Do you have any ideas worth reading? :banghead

Redman had the best season by any of our pitchers in 2003, but it seems we are eager to give him away so easily.? Don't discount what he accomplished the amount of innings he did it in.? Beckett was incredible, yes, but in almost 100 fewer innings.? That said I'd love to trade him for prospects only if it meant we get Vlad.? We also might try to trade him now while his value is at its highest because I think he had some tired arm troubles towards the end of 2003.

Sham, I understand why that's your position but unfortunately for Red, he may be forever cast in the recurring role of tradebait as he was last year in Detroit and this year with us.

The Fish have some obvious holes to be filled and Mark is a quality pitcher this team can succeed without. His salary precludes us from moving him to the pen (and frankly I'm convinced that's a good role for him anyways), but he may bring some quality bullpen help or help us fill another spot on our roster.

I'm not certain that trading Redman will fill any immediate holes we have. The prospect discussed MIGHT be able to make the jump, but who can be sure? We would most likely recieve prospects that need at least a year of fine tuning before they are ready which doesn't help us NOW. Is starting Tejera/Phelps/Helling/whoever for the X amount of months Burnett will be out worth what we get for Redman? Unless we have Vlad its not worth it because our offense is MAYBE average going into the season. But of course we can agree to disagree :thumbup .

Sham, there are plenty of teams who need starting pitching, especially lefty starting pitching. And at his anticipated $3+ million arb number he is affordable. I expect to see him traded for more than just a prospect, I believe we can get a frontline reliever for him.

I understand your point about Tejera/Phelps/Helling. Tejera will be gone, Helling already is and Phelps may be too, although I believe the Fish will give him every chance to make the club. I still believe Redman is our best bet as tradebait.

I can't see us dealing Redman as we have a very solid starting rotation including Big Red. AJ probably won't be full healed until 2005....best to have him start in the pen in a less strenuous situation. I say hang onto Red until we see how AJ is progressing.
