October 24, 20178 yr Does Jeter stupid enough to think that a 90 million dollars team would keep more fans than a 50 million dollars team !? Are you more worried about attendance numbers or about building a successful team on the field? Attendance is already in the toilet, worry about building a good and competitive team and eventually the attendance will rise.
October 24, 20178 yr Payroll was a team-record 110 million in 2017 and fans still didn't show up. Also, now that I think about it, do most fans even know the payroll? Most fans wouldn't have been able to tell you that the 2017 team had it's highest payroll ever. Most casual fans talk so much about how the Marlins have always been cheap with low payroll but they probably had no clue how high payroll was this past season. If anyone had to guess they'd probaby say that 2012 or maybe '97, if that, were the highest. My point is, if the media wouldn't make such a big stink about payroll numbers most people wouldn't know or, most importantly, wouldn't even care what the payroll was. All they really care about is the team's win-loss record. Attendance will go up when the team wins consistently and fans feel like they are going to see a winner on any given day that they go to the ballpark. If payroll is high and the team doesn't win, no one will go anyways. If payroll is low and the team is a contender, fans will show up. Payroll has virtually nothing to do with attendance. What was the payroll and attendance numbers in the 03-05 years?
