We have a ways to go...

If we don't have a better bench than that we are in trouble.

WC this is the bare minimum payroll. It will be higher than this. Like I said in the other thread it will be somewhere in between this and Marlins2003's payroll.

okay, i have a VERY RELIABLE and UNBIASED payroll spreadsheet that i've been waiting until the non-tender deadline to post. i don't really like your estimate for a number of reasons, but i'll post my spreadsheet tomorrow after we know who has been non-tendered (and basically after i know if we're getting benitez).

edit: after adding the $11 million for hampton and pudge, your spreadsheet and mine actually look very similar... though there are a few numbers and players i would like to change, we're in the same ballpark.

this is definetly too low- you're saying we have 22 mill left over? How come we're not trying to make a trade for a rod? Not to mention you're saying that we won't sign anymore bench players OR anymore bullpen pitchers- it looks good, but it's not gonna happen.

How is our bench in trouble with that?

Redmond and Mordecai are contact hitters that can go to the opposite field. Harris is the lefty pinch hitting extrordinare. Banks is the switch-hitting versitle patient/power guy. And Abe brings defense and speed, with some pop as well.

This is the payroll as it stands now (besides Benitez). I'm not saying this is what it will be.

Harris is the lefty pinch hitting extrordinare.

Harris WAS the lefty pinch hitting extrordinare

Harris WAS the lefty pinch hitting extrordinare I didn't get the memo.

He sure fooled me in August-October.

our bench was basically the same last season

all its missing is a guy like andy fox who wasn't too great anyways

im not gonna do the math...so j/w is that with or w/o the 11 mill in deferred payments?

Without.

with the 11 million in payments, wildcard's number is about $49 million, which is pretty close to my $50-51 million

All WC needs is a closer, GOOD reliever, and some kind of good bench guy or a proven veteran that doesnt cost too much

I've updated my original post. The total comes out to $48,725,000.

Still have $11,275,000 left to spend, supposedly.

well he did put benitez as the closer (our closer [looper or benitez] will probably be making $3 million)

but yes, we seriously need to upgrade our bullpen and bench.

Correction:

Pierre 2.3M link

Redmond 840K

Mordecai 425K. Almost certain to rise to 500K with the amount of games he plays. Could rise to 600K.

Fox 1.3M link

Deferrals to Pudge and Hampton = 11M.

Question:

Is Lowell's 4-year/32M contract broken up? Is it really 6.5M this year?

Lenny Harris signed to a minor league deal. Is 500K the amount he makes if he's called up?

And I think the league minimum for 2004 jumps to 375K.

I put 2,500,000 because the Marlins want 1-year $2 Mill, and he wants $3 Mill.

And possibilities for the bullpen are non-tender candidate Scott Sullivan and a few others.

And for the bench, Galarraga anyone?

I will make those corrections and have the total out to everyone in no time.

i agree with all those corrections, though i put mordecai at $500K

and yes, lowell's contract is $6.5 million in 2004

Corrections made.

Approximately $10,835,000 to spend.

How come we're not trying to make a trade for a rod?

What players do The Marlins have the room to trade for Arod? I would love to know.
