It would be till 07 though Willis#1!

You could move closer to the stadium by then ;)

Nope i like miami, and so do the marlins.

If the only place we can build a stadium is on Don King's land then GO FOR IT! It's better to have them here in Florida then in Washington DC or whever else.

Is don king on crack?or is he always like this?

he's always like this

personally, i dont like the idea of having them all the way up in north palm beach, but most importantly i dont trust that man for s***.

If Don Kings mean this, he's gotta put his money where his mouth is.

Don King means private stadium basically. I would like a Palm Beach location since I live in Fort Myers and it is a drive accross Palm Beach Blvd. but it really isn't practacal unless the population in Palm Beach and Broward continue to grow at current rates for the next ten years which would put Broward/Palm Beach's population larger and richer than Dade County's.

obviously don is just doing it for pub...

if the marlins don't get a stadium in dade or perhaps broward, they'll leave the state. northern palm beach county just does not have the population to fill any seats... don king isn't serious about it.

like they say, don king has never met a mic he doesn't like.

If they want to stay in Miami Loria is gonna have to come up with alot of "special money" and do it himself cause I doubt tax payers will help pay.

What is the vibe down there re: a publicly funded stadium? Obviously, knowing South Floridians as we do, and know that they are notoriously anti-taxation, my guess is that it's not going to happen. Does anyone here hold out any hope that the tax will be approved, and that we won't need the city's help?

Does anyone here hold out any hope that the tax will be approved, and that we won't need the city's help? The City of Miami has reneged and won't offer the land. They pushed it back on the taxpayers by proposing a 1/2 sales tax increase for 18 months. The county commission has opposed the tax referendum because it will compete with other taxing initiatives.

So there we are. At a stalemate.

Alex Penelas is the only vocal supporter for the stadium and is willing to help find other locations in Miami Dade for the stadium.

so wait - there's not even going to be a referendum? that sucks balls. they're worried that people might actually want this too much, so they're going to protect us from ourselves by not allowing us to vote on it? that's BS. I'm going to write to those politicians right now.

believe me, you don't want the sales tax referendum. it's basically a cop-out. i'm 95% sure dade voters will NOT approve a tax increase, and it lets the city free themselves of any sort of financial obligation.

we really don't want this on the ballot. if it loses on the ballot, it's an excuse for the city to say they tried.

Population of Palm Beach County is about 1,200,000 and growing.

10 year growth is about 36% and growing.

Population of the City of West Palm Beach is about 84,000.

Don King's land is well-situated, right off I-95.

Don't even say that. The population of Dade and Broward would feel completley alienated. It would be so far that fans from all of Dade would never be able to attend and fans from Broward wouldn't either.

This is such a freaking joke.

I am coming around on the team being moved to Broward or even Palm Beach. Dade county has proved again and again that it doesnt value its sport heritage and refuses to help. Soon, there will be no sports in this town and it really will be the Banana Republic. First of all, the population of Miami/Dade is great, but the income level is terrible for supporting a sports franchise. The cost of living is high and people work too much and make too little to support a team. They can support the Phins because they only play 8 games a year. Heat? Doesnt look good, only 41 games a year. Marlins? At 81 games a year? Unless they are playing in someone's backyard for under $5 dollars, people in this town wont go. I am convinced of that.

Broward and Palm Beach do have more favorable economies and clientele. Sorry, and as a citizen of Dade county, it hurts to admit that. But it is true. If we want to see the Marlins stay in Florida, this may be what has to happen. But I am ruling out Don King - too screwy and N. Palm Beach wont support a MLB franchise. Has to be more towards Broward if not IN Broward.

You know what guys?

if Wayne wouldn't loosen the lease restraints back when the Marlins were choking under the weight of a poor record, poor attendance, and no payroll, he's certainly not going to do it now that the team finally has its legs. Now is when he stands to REALLY make some money!

the only reason for Wayne to do this would be just because he's a nice guy. Do you think Wayne is a nice guy? Me neither.
