March 30, 20224 yr If you read moneyball then youd know that statistics show no difference between a good reliever pitcher and a closer. That's why the As would create closers by throwing their best relievers into the 9th inning role and trading them for good picks later on as other teams value the "closer" role more highly. Looks like the Marlins are taking this approach to the closer role as well as centerfield.

It's true innings are innings in the macro sense, but there is a human element of pressure so I do buy experience has "some" value even if hard to quantify. How I'm viewing the staff is simple. They need 300 innings out of the prospects and back ends relievers. This bucket is Cabrera, Meyer, Sixto, Poteet, Head, Neidert, Garrett, Holloway, and then all the camp arm guys like Armstrong and Yacabonis. I was feeling pretty confident about this until Sixto got hurt, and then I figured they'd get a reliever to help off-set that, which they didn't... but now Meyer looks *real* good so maybe he is called up sooner than my previous lower expectations and eats a considerable amount more. I can definitely see a world Cabrera/Meyer/Sixto get close to 200-250 innings between the 3 of them. That should work out great on paper as the other guys are definitely not shlub AAAA players if they pitch more (someone will emerge if not multiple into backend relievers). That then goes back to the point - getting some veteran 60-70 IP RP - and I'll say specially BEDNAR, TRIVINO, OR SULSER - would be a very strong addition. It'll help stabilize everyone to have a really solid Floro, Bender, "one of them," Bleier, Pop, and maybe Okert core bullpen. Those 60-70 IP are certainly a luxury, but that's what you do when you contend. You acquire these luxury upgrades as those count for that extra win you need somewhere. CF I got nothing. They should be trading one of Eury/Meyer/Cabrera, Sanchez/Bleday/Burdick, and Sixto/Eder/Salas/Fulton and doing what needs to be done. Use FA money to sign another arm if need be.
