July 21, 20224 yr it really depends. i hate the half-assed ice cream cakes that have a half layer of sponge with a layer of ice cream as the other half. give me the full ice cream cake experience with only a layer of crunchie bits separating the two. then again, i probably hate the half-assed ones because i have never liked cake.
July 21, 20224 yr I don't think I've ever had this so called half cake half ice cream version. I'm pretty sure the classic Carvel cake is what we all think of for ice cream cake and yes I do like that. Who doesn't? I'd imagine you'd have to hate ice cream to not like it. I might like ice cream cake better than real cake. But the bottom line is I like it because it's different than real cake which now makes me realize that ice cream cake isn't really cake. It's ice cream in a cake shape. There's really nothing cake about it.

Not my birthday but someone did indeed send an ice cream cake here yesterday. It is in the freezer and I am trying to figure out how to thaw it properly where it will still be good, won't melt and could be put back in freezer after I have a slice of it

July 21, 20224 yr I hate softened ice cream. I always kept mine in the middle of a giant chest freezer so it would stay as hard as possible. I'd warm the knife a little bit and that would cut it but not soften and ruin the whole thing.
July 21, 20224 yr Sounds like @hoverticallikes chipped teeth and frostbite on his tongue but yes @SonOfJackthere is a bit of slight softening needed. Maybe thawing is a misleading term.

July 21, 20224 yr Thinking of Carvel and Baskin Robbins makes me realize how many longtime business have seemingly stupid names that mean nothing to their product while on the other hand we're probably moving towards a time where newer businesses are gonna have more literal names because we've gotten away from naming things after the family names.

I actually think the icing that Carvel uses is perfect because it's like whipped cream instead of cake frosting. Again, more reason why ice cream cake is nothing close to cake. It's just a way to allow yourself to have something different for your birthday and then still say you had "cake."

Their icing isn't like regular cake icing. it's much firmer, even when...THAWED....*gasp* I still won't eat it unless it comes straight from a freezer though. Ya'll want something soft?
