ESPN Radio 710 AM, the Angels' flagship station, reported on the air late Saturday night that the free-agent slugger has agreed to go to Anaheim. The New York Daily News, citing unnamed sources, reported the same on its Web site, adding that "Indications were that the deal was for five years and a guaranteed $70 million." Club spokesman Tim Mead declined to comment on the reports. Earlier Saturday, the Mets, who had a contract offer out to Guerrero, dropped out of the race when the outfielder turned down a deal that would have guaranteed him $30 million over three seasons while possibly earning him $71 million over five years. In addition, the Orioles had a five-year, $65 million offer on the table for almost a month. If the Angels do sign Guerrero, they will likely move center fielder Darin Erstad to first base. New Angel Jose Guillen would probably play left field, with Garret Anderson moving from left to center and Guerrero playing right. The Angels, who won the World Series in 2002 but went 77-85 and missed the playoffs last season, have been active this offseason, previously signing Guillen as well as free agent pitchers Bartolo Colon and Kelvim Escobar. Guerrero, 27, has hit .300 or better in each of his seven full Major League seasons and is a four-time All-Star. SS- Eckstein 2B- Kennedy OF- Guerrero OF- Anderson 3B- Glaus OF- Guillen DH- Salmon 1B- Erstad C- Molina Along with there Starting Rotation of: 1-Colon 2-Washburn 3-Escobar 4-Ortiz 5-Sele, Lackey, or Shields Plus one of the better bullpens in the league with Percival Rodriguez Weber Donnelly Defintely Contenders next year.

Vladimir Guerrero is scheduled to undergo a physical exam Monday in what appears to be the final step toward signing a five-year contract with the Angels. Anaheim general manager Bill Stoneman confirmed the scheduled exam, though he declined to confirm reports of a five-year agreement worth at least $70 million between the slugging free agent outfielder and the Angels. The Angels are expected to introduce the former Expo as their new right fielder in a press conference on Tuesday if he passes the physical exam. "Guerrero will be in the LA area tomorrow for a physical," Stoneman said. "Once he has completed that process, we'll have further information. I won't comment further on this player or any other free agent player." The A's did it with mirrors last year and failed in the playoffs only because Seattle fell apart.
January 11, 200422 yr look at the records of the teams with the best pitching in each division: Yankees 101-61 White Sox 86-76 Mariners 93-69 Expos 83-79 Astros 87-75 Dodgers 85-77 Total: 535- 437 and the records of the teams with the best offense in each division: Red Sox 95-67 Royals 83-79 Rangers 71-91 Braves 101-61 Cardinals 85-77 Rockies 74-88 Total: 512- 463 and, take away the NL east, which is a clear fluke, and it's 452-358 vs. 411- 402

When one team's pitching is so much better than the other's, offense doesn't matter I don't think the difference between the A's and the Angels is enough to make up for the MASSIVE gap in the offenses. Colon, Washburn, Escobar or Ortiz is solid enough. And their bullpen might be the best in the majors.

If they A's win 85 games, they won't win the West. but the a's offense isn't nearly as bad as the dodgers was last year. THere is a much closer gap between the A's offense and the Angels offense than the gap between the rotations
