January 12, 200422 yr Boston definitely does not have the second best rotation, I call that schilling hype. ITs simply not true. The race is between the Cubs, As, and Yankees. The Cubs have great potential and young arms but no five starter. The As have 4 guys that can give you about 210 innings and up and about a 2.8 to a era...absolutely spectacular. Harden is an X factor, but in my opinion he's the next Mike Mussina. The Yanks have about 4 guys who can give you around a 2.8 to a 3.8 era (Vazquez, Mussina, Brown, Contreras). Lieber, who is now throwing harder than ever, is an X factor, but like HArden can be a major surprise, however Harden's upside is greater. So its a toss up between the yanks and as.

Pettitte's career ERA outside of Yankee Stadium is 4.44. That's pretty mediocre. It's 3.46 at Yankee Stadium. He has an excellent record because he plays for the Yankees. And he is no doubt an amazing postseason pitcher. But, take him away from the Yanks, and he's pretty mediocre. Clemens will be 42 in August. He was a good pitcher last year, and he may be good this year, but he is no longer great. I don't think he can be counted on. A good risk at 5 mil, though. Oswalt is awesome. Miller is good, but I don't really know anything about him. Robertson, well, his career numbers don't look too promising, and he'll be 27 at season's start, so it's not like it's inexperience that's killing him. Whoever else they plug in probably won't be any better. I'm not saying they're bad, I'm just saying they're overrated. They're not #4 in baseball.
January 13, 200422 yr 1. A's - no question. The big 3, Redman and the splattering of rookies 2-5. Cubs, Marlins, Red Sox, Yankees. Each have two big aces, but little depth and major questions (injury risk, career years, rookies repeating.) If you forced me I'd say Cubs, Yankees, Marlins, Red Sox. 6. Astros. Pettitte isn't special. Even for all his postseason success he's got one awful ERA to show for it. Never been too high on Wade Miller, and Clemens is a major risk.
January 13, 200422 yr Author I dont see the Yankees being better than us. Sorry. Kevin Brown has yet to be healthy, and maybe he will be this season. Vazquez is a good one, but we will have to wait and see what he does in the AL, especially in NYC spotlight. There are a lot of questions for that Yanks rotation. The Red Sox BOUGHT their rotation, and rightfully so should be ranked high. I think Pedro, yes Pedro, is a question mark. He is a fighter, but hardly the pitcher he once was - I expect a dropoff. Lowe is solid and Schilling is a gamer. They should be good, but who else do they have? Cubs, Prior is human - as we proved - and Wood is too. Both are frontline pitchers, and if Zambrano ever gets his emotions under control he could be very good too. But Clement is up and down and who is their #5? I think the best rotation right now is the A's. Not because Beane is a genius either - the guy got flat lucky with Zito. But they have aces in Zito and Mulder. Hudson is very good too, and Redman is a very underrated lefty - but wont win in the playoffs. Just like the A's. Harden is probably their best pitcher, or will be someday. That guy is going to be good and the reason why I give them the best rotation. Then there is us. We have frontline aces to match any staff with Beckett and Burnett (when healthy). Penny could be an ace too, if he just gets more consistent and we saw glimpses of greatness in the playoffs. Also saw horrendous performances from him too, but he bounced back. Willis could be a star, a very solid lefty who just has to keep putting together solid outings and his time will come. Pavano is very solid, and better than the #4/#5 on Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees. I think Pavano is very underrated and could have a banner year this season if he can stay healthy. He is starting to live up to the promise he showed as a Red Sox prospect. Plus our whole staff is under 30, and we got Allison coming up through the ranks too. So here is how I rank 'em: A's Marlins Red Sox Cubs Yankees it is very close between the bottom three, but I feel more confident in Prior and Woods than Brown and Vazquez at this point. Schilling boosts Red Sox up there. A team that should get consideration, Astros, of course and also the Angels.
