February 15, 200422 yr then i said that SNB was the most visible broadcast of ESPN. and i said that Buck/McCarver was the #1 broadcast crew at Fox. the other games are primarily regional in scope.
February 15, 200422 yr My format for the Game of the Week on FOX or ABC starting in 2007. 15 week season with Saturday Double-Headers. 1 PM ET game has Team A and Team B shown Nationally. 4 PM ET game has Team C and Team D shown Nationally. 1 PM Game would be called by one announcer from Team A and one announcer from Team B. 4 PM Game would be called by one announcer from Team C and one announcer from Team D. 15 weeks x 2 games a week = 30 games a season 30 games x 2 teams a game = 60 teams to play 60 teams to play 30 teams in MLB = 2 times on Game of the Week for each team
February 15, 200422 yr Heyyyyylo everybodi! If there WAS a salary cap... um lets say 105 million, there would STILL be teams in 19, 25, 50 million payrolls. Doesn't solve much and it wont help to make it like football where any team can win any year (because footbal plays only 15 games, not because of the cap). It only stops the 2 or 3 teams that are over 100 million... and they will make up for it, since they can afford to have the maximum the cap allows, and the lower salaries in general will probably help them get even better playas! So in the end its the same thing! OOOOhhhh and everbodi's forgetting that the RANGERS LOL are paying a HUGE chunk of Arods salary.. so its not like the Yanks are getting 252 million on their payroll LOL.
February 15, 200422 yr My Format for Sundya Night Baseball on ESPN or FX starting in 2007. One game every week shown exclusively and nationally like it is now. Would require every team to be shown twice a year on the telecast. No team may air more than five times. Miller and Morgan would be allowed to call games on TV and Shulman and Campbell on the radio.
February 15, 200422 yr I don't believe in salary caps, but I like the luxury tax. Owners should be required to keep a minimum payroll of $20 million or face being fined the difference between the payroll and $20 million.

Cause if its lower than 20 million, owners make profit even if no fans come to the game... thats not good for baseball.
February 15, 200422 yr 20 million is yoru minimum payroll....s*** thats riduclious. i am thinking more like 50 million at least, especially if you come up with true revenue sharing.
February 15, 200422 yr If you have the money to spend, spend it and then pay the tax. But if you don't spend the money to field a good team and try to use your team as a business and mistreat fans by not even having a payroll over $20 million, you should also be fined. Bring everyone together by bringing everyone up, not tearing some down because some can't do things right.
February 15, 200422 yr 20 million is yoru minimum payroll....s*** thats riduclious. i am thinking more like 50 million at least, especially if you come up with true revenue sharing. $20 million because if you have a team full of young guys and some veterans that is trying to compete like the 2004 Devil Rays, you don't want them signing A-Rod type deals to meet payroll requirements.

Baseball is nice because U got teams that are all different and with different goals!! Some teams want to win it now, some later and some are trying to get younger, cheaper, better in the long run. The 2003 Drays goal is to get younger and better in the long run. Why should they spend more to achieve the same goal? Doesn't make sense.
February 15, 200422 yr you are increasing revenue sharing to start with in my proposal. every team should at least make a real effort to win every year...you do it in different ways and with different payroll levels. the drays are cheap...its not about trying to develop young players...that was not their intention originally...they only are doing this after all their player moves sucked a big one. their scouting department sucks. at least it has for the most part since they entered this league.
February 15, 200422 yr My proposal would have all the teams put national TV and apparal sales money as well as luxury taxes and minimum payroll fines into one pot split evenly between the 30 teams.
February 15, 200422 yr The D-Rays won the AAA International League Championship, the farm system does not suck. The front office does.
February 15, 200422 yr did they win said championship with young players or veterans..... winning in the minors can be overrated. the devil rays are still cheap. a 20 million dollar payroll is riduclious.
February 15, 200422 yr the devil rays are still cheap. a 20 million dollar payroll is riduclious. yeah, but look at their revenues. a chunk of the partnership just wants to fold. they can't even pay off accumulating interest on loans. i wouldn't call their ownership "cheap" so much as "broke".
February 15, 200422 yr cheap.... broke.... they are not spending this little by plan...but by necessity. their payroll is so much less than anyone else that its riduclious.
February 15, 200422 yr For the hell of it with the signing of travis lee and acquisition of alex rodriguez, here's how I would do the batting order ideally mind you! 3B Jeter R LF Williams S SS Rodriguez R DH Giambi L RF Sheffield R C Posada S CF Matsui L 1B Lee L 2B Myrow L Note: If Sheffield's on base percentage is better and has a comprable OPS to rodriguez, they get switched in the order. I presume Sheff's career year mixed with yankee stadium left field will make him the better 5 hitter. Furthermore with flyball pitchers, Lofton gets the nod in the outfield and giambi moves to 1st base. Giambi does substantially better hitting as a first baseman, and if so Lee would only start with Brown pitching, Bernie moves to DH and lofton goes to center. Furthermore, the second base situation depends upon how Cairo, Lamb, Wilson, Myrow, and Homer Bush do in spring training. If bush is healthy, he's best for the job. Furthermore, the 3 lefties in a row at the back end is not a big problem, because matsui is a lot like a switch hitter, hitting both lefties and righties equally good (or bad) for that matter. Here will be Torre's lineup DH Lofton L SS Jeter R 3b Rodriguez R 1b Giambi L RF Sheffield R CF Williams S LF Matsui L C Posada S 2B Cairo R

February 15, 200422 yr You see, my favorite player was O'Neill. He's right next to me in my avatar! Nonetheless, I wanted him to retire before getting washed up and he did. I didn't know who my next favorite player would be, but I grew to love Ted Lilly and Alfonso Soriano. Lilly went to oakland and is now in toronto and Soriano is in texas. Arg! My favorite player will remain sori and lilly will still be my second, but I'm not sure who on the Yankees will become my other fave...especially because its no fun rooting for a well established veteran. Oh yeah, hammond is my thrid favorite player and look what happened with him! Go myrow!
February 16, 200422 yr I think that if you have a guy who is a special player, it's good for them to go to a market other than NY or Boston; those two teams will be around forever, so why not use the talent to attract interest in other teams? It just seems odd to me that people feel that making the strongest media market stronger helps baseball as a whole. I'm saying the overall marketability of a player of ARod's calibar would be better utilized on a northeast team. Fans of Rangers and Bulls aside, a sport would be able to market itself better to the ordinary fan, the international market and the whole nation if the top player in the game didn't play at 9/10pm est, and whose box scores were always one day late in the printed press. In the battle for the attention of young kids and new fans between the sports, a A-Rod is important not their not-yet-formed loyalties to a team. Why would dividing the airtime do anything to help clubs? Getting more attention? Selling more jerseys and merchandise? Baseball already splits merchandise and national TV revenue equally among all teams. The vast amount of money the Yankees and others make are from their own regional sports networks. And even some of this is given to other teams in form of revenue sharing.
