Arod now a Yankee

Featured Replies

If this trade goes down baseball is officially ruined. This is a disgrace. We're going to have a team that has a payroll is almost 4 times as much as the average team. Something has to be done.

It's not ruined,

The Yankees are America's most popular team therefore this only helps their fanbase grow, If it wasn't for The Yankee's dynasty run, the backlash of The 94 strike would have been much worse than it is. This also helps fuel, The Hatred of The Yankees which thrives and is good for baseball.

Plus, I didn't see The Angels Off Season being called, The Move that ruins Baseball. You know, The off season in which The Best Pitcher and Hitter on the market were signed.

Teams like The Brewers fail, not because of an unfair work enviroment, no it's because their owners want to make money, winning only comes second. THose are the men who are ruining baseball not The Yankees. Fans who complain about The Yankee's ruining baseball, are ruining this game because instead of putting the blame on bad GM's and cheap owners(those who truly are ruining the game) they try to attack teams that wanted to win.

The Yankee's just went out and picked up a monster, This move will be on frontpages and News shows across The Country, and yet this ruins Baseball.

Maybe I was lost but, Cinderella's have been winning The Big Series, for the past few years, Small market teams(KC, Mont, Oak) have been putting decent/good clubs onto the field and yet it all goes back to George.

Sorry for my ranting but that's my honest to god opinion. First, no one is picking out the Angels because their payroll is still at a reasonable level compared to the other teams.

And I know, I personally, speak for the Yankees (or any teams front office) when I say that they are ruining baseball. The Yankees themselves, of course, are not the reason, its King George and his henchmen there I am referring to.

You're right, Cinderella's have been winning The Big Series the past few years, but as time progresses, the Yanks and BoSox are only going to be paying these guys more and more, so that these smaller market teams have no chance of signing everyone. The higher the Yanks payroll gets, the larger the gap is between the big and small teams.

it does make the Yanks winners, but not by much... soriano does get pretty good numbers and is 20million less a year.

the Rangers get the best of it, since now they have plenty of money to spend on pitching, they also have great hitting prospects so its a good deal for them.

Sorry Yanks, you are better but its a dumb move, it was not needed.

Sorry for my ranting but that's my honest to god opinion. Can't you see that the problem is growing every year. Yeah the small market team's have had some success recently, but a lot of the players that have helped these players make these runs have now been scooped up by these big market teams, and you will see that the small market teams will not be able to compete in the near future.

I know some people say that the yankees and red sox will be screwed in a couple of years because they have poor minor league systems, but all they have to do is spend more money. When you have money who needs a good minor league system to develop prospects? That is what pisses me off the most. It's like these small market teams are developing the stars in their minor league system just so the Yankees or Red Sox can take them away in about 3 or 4 years.

So because it wasnt needed its dumb?

As long as the Yankees improve, how the hell is it dumb for them?

Explain.

The Yankees and Red Sox look pretty tough but you gotta play the games to find out who's best.

I apologize for the sexual comment, but none the less, your suggestion is absurd. The Yankees were better before, they are as sure as heck better now.

P.S. To the mods, I hope you suspended Sheff#1 and Wadsworth for their comments concerning sexual favors...double standards.

Once again all the blame is diverted to The Yankee's.

Everyone here makes it seem as The Smaller Market Teams owner's really do care and pardon them of any blame.

Fact of the matter is, if you don't want to be a cinderella, you can still compete with a payroll of 80 million(Of course long term bombs like Dean Palmer was are not included) and not have to put all your chips in on being a cinderella.

Mid market teams are buying big in one position and neglecting other holes which is why they do not succeed. The Yankees have a luxury of buying a lot but they still have holes(not as big but holes). Luckily in Baseball, on any day, one of those holes can open up and give you a win which is why if you spend smart and have a little money, you CAN win.

Below Average GM's and Greedy Owners are what to blame in sports but as long as The Yankee's are around... I'm very happy because they only add to rivalries and face it Rivalries are what make things great.

Plain and Simple.

This is a move for the Yanks that without a question improves their lineup but now it creates even more hatred by other teams' fans. I really don't care what they say as long as the Yankees win, can't wait til spring training.

some very good poitns.

Mostly, who won the world series last year? a small market team. Who won in 2002? A mid market team. Who won in 2001? An expansion team. What teams are making the playoffs? The Mets and Dodgers are missing it while the Twins, As, and Marlins.

Regardless of whether A-Rod plays 3B or SS this is a HUGE upgrade to the Yankees. A-Rod is the best offensive IF in the game, although there is not question Jeter should be moved to 3B with his awful range and A-Rod kept at SS to maximize both of their values. Awesome move.

Im sure I will be in the minority but this is good for baseball

its all star weekend in the NBA but the main story everywhere is BASEBALL BASEBALL BASEBALL

just my 2 cents

hmmm, sounds shockingly similar to what Harrold Reynolds said on sportscenter :D . Anyway, I think the interest it generates is good for main-stream media coverage of baseball, however I think it damages the integrity of the game because deals like this are what brought the NHL to it's knees, and the MLB will be there shortly. If/when the Yankees don't win the World Series this year, their payroll will be north of $250 million next year, and that will quintuple an average payroll from this year, and there's no way you can tell me that's good for baseball...

hell i dont know what im talking about...

all i know is that baseball was the number one story today.....

all star weekend has been pretty blah so far. there better be some fadeaway buzzer beaters tomorrow or something.

hell i dont know what im talking about...

and Hockey was the #1 story the day that Jagr was traded to the Rangers, but that didn't mean it was good for the game...

but iih have also had a little bit to driunk tonight

but even a sober Ramp would think so.... i think

I think what there talking about Jonny is that they think Jeter should move to 3B and A-Rod become SS.

Uh...no. Jeter will stay at SS and ARod will move to 3B.

Let me put it this way, if you are quibbling over which player, Jeter or ARod, should be at SS or 3B - you are doing pretty DAMN good.

I think that there are some positives from this, but the negatives far outweigh them.

The fact is the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry is good for generating excitement for baseball. But the Yankees just blew the Red Sux away...

I think we could be concerned about the Yankees ever rising payroll, but I am not. Really, I am not. First of all, that luxury tax is going to hurt George - and I say they should raise it, but that isnt likely. Secondly, this does NOT in any way mean the championship is the Yankees'. Right now, the Yankees pitching is not all that great and they will need the offensive boost to make up the difference. Finally, to win the World Series it is all about pitching. Good pitching beats our great hitting just about anytime. As long as a team has good pitching, they can patchwork an offense to score runs and win. That formula is in place with the Marlins. And yes, it means that in order for small market teams to compete, they have to get the best talent available. But how is that any different than normal? You are always trying to get the best talent and stockpile it.

I think for all the money that the Yankees are spending, they are actually painting themselves into a corner. They are the only team in baseball that can afford these big deals, and the only way that players get those deals is if they go to NY. This offseason showed that teams are NOT going to spend like they used to in the past. The only teams tempted - Red Sox and Yankees. I feel more sorry for the Blue Jays and Devil Rays, but they wont be able to compete until they get more talent. Sure, there is an illustration of your concerns, but the D-Rays are lacking talent right now (they are getting some players though...) and the Blue Jays had a solid offseason and will be much improved.

In other words, money does NOT equal wins. That formula has failed more often than suceeded.

I think that there are some positives from this, but the negatives far outweigh them. positives:

Yankees have better (best) offense in baseball

Baseball grabs headlines away from NBA

negatives:

Rich get richer

Yankee fans grow in S. Fl...?

But does this REALLY change things? It has always been the case in modern baseball yet the small market teams are winning.

By the way - Miami is NOT a small market. More like small revenue - but that will change soon. As long as we keep winning.

Oh yeah - this is good for the Rangers too.

They get Soriano, who is a great offense '2B'. They also save about $120M which gives them a lot of money to sign pitchers (and this next offseason will have quite a crop).

Soriano will never be a gold glove 2B, but his offense will be very good. I think this is a necessity for the future of that franchise. And by the way, this is only indicative of the approach just about EVERY team in MLB is adopting - dont overspend and commit all your money to one player.

I dont see how this is good for baseball. The only positive I see is it adds fire to the Yankee and Red Sox rivalry. Only thing that the Yankees have provided is escalting player contracts and making other high market teams spend more money to compete them. Also they've become experts at stealing small-market players from other teams.

In football with a salary cap every team has hope of getting into the playoffs and going all the way coming into Training Camp. Only a few in baseball have hope of reaching the big one when coming to Spring Training.

This is just not right. This thing which steinbrenner does is getting way out of hand.

Bud has to do something to stop teams from spending 200 million dollars on players and other only spending 50. This is why baseball is becoming less and less popular, in the beginning of the year you can already predict who will win each division and be right prob 80 percent of the time.

That is also why football is sooo popular, Each year any team can win a division and a championship.

This is not going to help baseball one bit.

football is great and all but sometimes you can have too much parity. It is fun being able to root against the yankees and know they will be good every year.

Is that why the angels and marlins have won the last two world series, when no one expected them to win anything? And oakland, a small market team, has made the playoffs for three years?

If George has the Money, And decides to invest it on his team, I for one am not against that. There should be alot more owners who do that. Also, Boston had a chance to get A-rod, but couldn't do it. If the yanks can, why shouldn't they? It's not like they came out of nowhere, screwed over a ton of teams, and got him.

Is this good for baseball? yes, you get one of the games most marketable stars to a city with arguably the leagues most marketable team in history, that can only help baseball. And It adds fuel to one of the greatest sports rivalries in all of sports, which can only help baseball. It helps people who already hate the yankees, hate them more, It gives A-Rod fans the chance to see him actually get a chance at a ring, instead of passing the prime of his career in texas, where he will not win anything. In conclusion, It helps A-Rod, It helps New York, It helps Texas, It helps baseball.
