February 14, 200422 yr And what the f*** of f***s is their payroll now? Close to $220 million. :plain I believe I read that their payroll this year would be around $190 million.
February 14, 200422 yr im not even surprised........ i hope this is a lesson 2 baseball who is has the worst money system in pro sports. its amazing the way baseball works. but even with that said i dont see the yankees winning. they will have 2 win 110 games or be a dissapointment. let alone going all the way. i just LOOOOVE 2 see them loose and get upset by some1 like the marlins 2 shove it up their asss. i cant wait 2 see if it goes through so the entire world will notice that baseball is still a mess. and will be under bud selig :thumbdown

I know the argument that Steinbrenner has the money, so he should be allowed to spend it, but it just gets out of hand. A $190 million payroll?!? It puts the other teams at a significantly lower level than the Yans (and BoSox) and the gap between only gets wider with this kind of thing.
February 14, 200422 yr If there were a Salary Cap. say 104 mil (what most Baseball Sim leagues use). Who and where can the yankees deal all those players. That is one tough problem because not many teams would even want to take on those big salaries at that point or be able to. There'd probably be a provision on the cap that pre-existing contracts are allowed to go over the cap.
February 14, 200422 yr Seems like it's going to be a: Soriano, Contreras, Navarro (the best Yank prospect) for A-Rod. The Post reports...
February 14, 200422 yr George's ego gets in the way and Texas ends up with the best possible deal. I'm confident, A-Rod is going to be A Junior Griffey like deal, maybe not involving injuries but A-Rod disappoints, doesn't mesh while Soriano, wins an MVP down the road(keyword). Good for Texas and somewhat good for The AL East because I don't see how Giami, Jeter and A Rod mesh. It sounds good but they have yet to play a game. Should be intresting. Just like Payton, Shaq, Mailman weren't going to mesh? They did fine, so will the yanks yup yup Jeter and A-Rod are very close friends... And either way...Why should either of them care? Wouldnt you embrace someone who was going to win you a championship. Anyone who thinks this doesnt help the Yankees is talking out there ass due to hatred. Anytime you can get the best player in the game you take it. The original Jose Contreras, Dioneer Navarro, and Alfonso Soriano for A-Rod deal was favoring Texas...But trading Soriano and Danny Borrell for Alex Rodriguez? Come now...Dont be stupid. Just look at the OPS (the most important stat in baseball)... A-Rod OPS: 996 Soriano OPS:863 This deal works out for both sides, period. Dont let your homer goggles oversee this.
February 14, 200422 yr Seems like it's going to be a: Soriano, Contreras, Navarro (the best Yank prospect) for A-Rod. The Post reports... The last I heard was actually: Soriano and Danny Borrell for A-Rod -- This was less than a minute ago.
February 14, 200422 yr HUH???? why on earth would a team put a-rod at 3rd base and keep derek jeter at shortstop? that's retarded.
February 14, 200422 yr To The Salary Cap, if it would be put in place, Baseball would die, One of the most exciting thing about Baseball is the offseason and the trade deadlines where cap issues do not come in to play as much. Bryan, You tell everyone to take their homer goggles off? Are you middle ground because Soriano didn't have his homer goggles on when he said his own team is getting the worse of the deal. ARod has done nothing amazingly better in Texas, that Manny Ramirez, Soriano, Giambi, or Barry Bonds couldn't do. Now out of those five players, which of them didn't make the playoffs last year? Sure ARod did not have the team but ARod has never been tested in the level that he would be put up to in NY or Boston. Oh year, he's also a whiny brat but I'm sure that'll be good for buisness.
February 14, 200422 yr Soriano said that we were getting the worse of the deal when speaking of the deal including Dioneer Navarro and Jose Contreras. Which I agree with, it would be a bad deal for the yankees. Soriano and Danny Borrell for Rodriguez? I think of you as a pretty level headed fan usually...But, If you dont think this helps the Yankees, your just being ignorant.
February 14, 200422 yr To The Salary Cap, if it would be put in place, Baseball would die, One of the most exciting thing about Baseball is the offseason and the trade deadlines where cap issues do not come in to play as much. huh???? :wow the baseball offseason is only exciting in a few select markets. it sucks ass when you know your team is going to lose its best players during the offseason to some other team that has a payroll twice the size of yours. it sucks ass when you know the only way your team is going to be competitive is if they have lots of exceptional young players who are under team control and can't yet command big salaries.
February 14, 200422 yr I doubt Contreras is really part of the deal. With the uncertainty of the pitching rotation (Kevin Brown, Jose Contreras, Mike Mussina, Jon Lieber, and Vasquez) I doubt they'd trade away one of their five starters.

Exactly, Baseball is slowly dying without a salary cap. The payroll gap between teams like the Yankees and BoSox and the Brewers and D-Rays is only going to grow. It's got to stop somewhere.

Lets just stop the talk of contreras, soriano, and navarro right here...THATS NOT THE TRADE. It's A-Rod for Soriano and most likely, Danny Borrell. Stop the madness please!

I figured the Rangers could squeeze Navarro in the deal too but I guess not.
February 15, 200422 yr Author The Associated Press is reporting that the Rangers could assume as much as $67 million of the $179 million remaining on Alex Rodriguez's contract in a deal with the Yankees. The Rangers are going to pay for three of the remaining seven years on A-Rod's deal? If so, we're going to have to revise our concept of what truly constitutes a terrible baseball move. February 15, 200422 yr If this trade goes down baseball is officially ruined. This is a disgrace. We're going to have a team that has a payroll is almost 4 times as much as the average team. Something has to be done.
February 15, 200422 yr If this trade goes down baseball is officially ruined. This is a disgrace. We're going to have a team that has a payroll is almost 4 times as much as the average team. Something has to be done. It's not ruined, The Yankees are America's most popular team therefore this only helps their fanbase grow, If it wasn't for The Yankee's dynasty run, the backlash of The 94 strike would have been much worse than it is. This also helps fuel, The Hatred of The Yankees which thrives and is good for baseball. Plus, I didn't see The Angels Off Season being called, The Move that ruins Baseball. You know, The off season in which The Best Pitcher and Hitter on the market were signed. Teams like The Brewers fail, not because of an unfair work enviroment, no it's because their owners want to make money, winning only comes second. THose are the men who are ruining baseball not The Yankees. Fans who complain about The Yankee's ruining baseball, are ruining this game because instead of putting the blame on bad GM's and cheap owners(those who truly are ruining the game) they try to attack teams that wanted to win. The Yankee's just went out and picked up a monster, This move will be on frontpages and News shows across The Country, and yet this ruins Baseball. Maybe I was lost but, Cinderella's have been winning The Big Series, for the past few years, Small market teams(KC, Mont, Oak) have been putting decent/good clubs onto the field and yet it all goes back to George. Sorry for my ranting but that's my honest to god opinion.
February 15, 200422 yr The Yankees and Red Sox look pretty tough but you gotta play the games to find out who's best.
February 15, 200422 yr HUH???? why on earth would a team put a-rod at 3rd base and keep derek jeter at shortstop? that's retarded. definitely.
February 15, 200422 yr Bad deal. God damn it. Soriano is going to hit so well at arlington, he will have MVP numbers. If he played at arlington in 2003 his numbers would of been a .329 AVG, 53 HRs, and a 1.045 ops. That means he would of had the AL batting title, ML home run title, and the highest ops in the american league. You have got to be sh*tting me. A Rod is a Hall of Famer now and an MVP NOW. Soriano, as good as he is, has mediocre (at best) defense and melted this past postseason. The Yankees would be getting, supposedly, a $67M savings on A Rod's ridiculous contract. Not that the Yanks couldnt afford it. Jeter and A Rod on the same team? You got to be kidding - that is something that happens with a video game. This would re-energize this franchise and give them plenty of offense to overcome what looks to be an average pitching staff (Too many question marks at this point...). Yankees make this deal, and the do double damage because they steal ARod from the Red Sox - and who knows, maybe persuade Nomah that he is more appreciated in NYC next year and put him at 2B!!! Just kidding, but this would be one hell of a deal. Bye Soriano - I wouldnt think twice.
February 15, 200422 yr HUH???? why on earth would a team put a-rod at 3rd base and keep derek jeter at shortstop? that's retarded. definitely. What are you two talking about? You dont think the transition from SS to 3B is relatively painless? SS's are usually the best athletes on the field. They usually end up at 3B at the end of their careers anyway. Travis Fryman came up as a SS intially, became a 3B. Cal Ripken ended up playing 3B - but probably could have made that transition earlier but pride and a streak wouldnt let him. There are countless examples (Miguel Cabrera, ahem) that demonstrate this. You have got to be high to not take ARod for Soriano and a PTBNL. The Yankees are not concerned about money...so this is a remarkable deal. Besides, you kill the Red Sox organization with how they dissed NOMAH...
February 15, 200422 yr Author I think what there talking about Jonny is that they think Jeter should move to 3B and A-Rod become SS.
