Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
The reason Stanton will remain untouchable is that we can now afford to sign him long-term. Which will happen in due time. Had any owner prior to Loria managed to get a stadium built Cabrera would still be here. They didn't. So it goes. I hope you get over your blind Loria-hate. He will not sign here long term. He will work his Arb. eligible years and then he is out. Stanton is a Top 10 MLB player and he can get the money he wants elsewhere without the constant threat of being traded.

I'll still be a Marlins fan. Hell, I'm still a Timberwolves fan and they once put a team on the court that was barely competent enough to win 1-out-of-8 games. However, this definitely sours the team coming to Kansas City in 2013 for my first ever opportunity to actually see them in person. Unless the team gets contracted or moved, the sun will shine again. It just feels like the sunset for Winter in Yellowknife, Canada..... Well, the team is not going to move since they have a lease and a contractual obligation as part of the stadium deal to not move for 30 years. I don't know if they could be contracted. At this time it sounds like a good option.

You're dreaming. Loria =/= McCourt. You're right, McCourt did not have "Market corrections" or "Fire Sales" every few years.

Players in the past who've been "untouchable" Josh Beckett, Josh Johnson, Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez, Miguel Cabrera. Don't be silly. Beckett was never untouchable or said to be so, he went in a salary dump with Lowell. JJ was untouchable until his injuries and underperformance given his contract. Ramirez was untouchable as long as he was performing and didn't have an attitude. Gonzales was only a very good prospect at the time and returned Urbina and a WS. Cabrera was untouchable until it was obvious we couldn't afford him in the old stadium. Stanton is untouchable and will remain so because now we can afford an elite player. Technically, no one is "untouchable" as the FO often says, but, as I said, nobody is going to offer their entire farm for Stanton. The FO will listen, but the odds of them hearing an offer worth taking are one in 10 million. No. The ONLY reason Stanton is untouchable is because he makes next-to-nothing and is over-performing on his rookie contract. As soon as he makes any real money he will be shipped off somewhere in exchange for prospects, same as every other homegrown prospect.

If they force his hand :lol Loria's hand can't be "forced" by some nebulous "they." That's almost as ridiculous as some poor business illiterate asking previously whether the trade is criminal. There seems to be a distinct lack of understanding around here of how property ownership, you know, say, a controlling interest in a MLB franchise, actually works. Loria will own the Marlins until he dies. Then, get ready for Samson as the managing general partner. bobbob is that you?

Loria will own the Marlins until he dies. Then, get ready for Samson as the managing general partner. MLB clearly forced the Dodgers owner, McCourt, to sell the team when he clearly did not want to. He was absolutely terrible for the franchise as was evidenced by the new group that came in and made immediate changes. The problem with Loria is that he does not have the finances to run an operation like this. Micky Arison can clearly take on something of this magnitude, but Loria and Samson have no clue of what they're doing. They are going back to their tried and true model of having the lowest possible payroll, crying poverty and getting those MLB checks at the end of the year and pocketing the money.

Fan favorite? Reyes was here one year. Stanton is the fan favorite. He remains untouchable. Nobody is going to offer their entire farm system for him. LOL. Players in the past who've been "untouchable" Josh Beckett, Josh Johnson, Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez, Miguel Cabrera. Is he as untouchable as those guys?

If they force his hand, do you guys think that Loria would sell the team. The ramifications of this trade go much deeper than the money saved. No manager will ever want to coach this time unless it's their first opportunity and no free agent will ever sign here unless the money is ridiculous as was the case with Reyes, but signing those types of deals only ensures that the player will be shipped off, e.g., Reyes, Carlos Delgado, Heath Bell, etc.

Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto
No reason to move Reyes or Buehrle? Why would you keep either of them if you're not going to reasonably expect to contend in '13 and maybe not even in '14? They were signed to contend. We didn't. If you keep them you spend 21 million on them in '13, they get another year older and harder to move and then those two guys cost 34 million in '14 and 41 million in '15. The Marlins dumped 182 mill in '13-'18 contractual obligations in one trade: Reyes 10 16 22 22 22 22 Buehrle 11 18 19 Buck 6 JJ 13.75 Add maybe 3 mill for Boni in arb and it nearly equals and essentially undid the '12 FA spending spree. That Reyes and Buehrle were traded makes sense. My only disappointment in the whole deal is that they didn't manage to get Nolasco included. Nolasco is now the team ace. SMH.

Wow. The team is so bad now that I would welcome the signing of borderline major leaguers like Carlos Lee and Carlos Zambrano

Miguel Cabrera Communist?
I don't want to get to political here, but I'd like to shed some light here as some of you don't know what you are talking about. First off, the word communism or communist has a negative stigma in this country and many of you have a pre-conceived notion of what communism is, however, many of you are WAY off base. Communism, as written in the works of Karl Marx, has NEVER seen the light of day, except for a brief period of time during the 1917 revolution in the former Soviet Union. Second, Venezuela is NOT a communist country and Hugo Chavez WAS elected into office. Third... someone here compared Communism to Nazism... All I can say is WOW! That is totally ridiculous. Finally, I studied Political Philisophy in college; it is what I majored in. As a society, especially one that believes in free speech, we must be accepting of other persons politcal views. If Cabrera supports Chavez maybe its because his country's GDP has risen over the past few years, poverty is down and literacy and jobs are up. Maybe Cabrera is seeking protection for his family? Who knows? Even though Chavez us not very eloquent and sometimes says some really moronic things, he really does not affect my life in the slightest, except for the cheap gas which is at 2.39 a gallon Thank you Hugo! This is one of the silliest threads I have ever read. I don't think Cabrera is a communist and even if he were I could accept it as long as he keeps his beliefs to himself. That being said, I take exception to the tone of marlinz fan comments. I am sorry about what happened to your friend. But your comments show me that you really don't understand the degree of human suffering that has occurred in Cuba under the communist regime. If you did, you would understand why some may react in a way that may seem unreasonable to those who don't have a clue of the horrors that have occurred in Cuba under Castro's rule. fan, I totally agree with you that Castro's regime has been a total detriment for the Cuban people. As a son of Cuban exiles I understand that what this man has done has been catastrophic in nature and has sent the island back into the stoneage. However, please understand that Castro is no communist. He may CLAIM to be one but is far from it. It would take hours for me to explain, but I wil just say that the man is a criminal, a murderer and a coward, but he is no communist.

Offseason report card for 06 from the main site
I think that Marlins9703 is probably the most accurate with his roster. However, there is no use for a third second baseman so Amezaga is taking up a bench. Everything else looks pretty good to me

Rosenthal: Castillo could be next Marlin traded
I really will lose all respect for ownership if they bring this payroll down to $15 or $20 million. It's been my supposition since this "market correction" started that every underachieving or bloated contract will be dealt away until they in fact hit rock bottom (perhaps as low as $15 million onfield), and then Beinfest will rebuild the team with lower-priced, productive players who have a better chance of out-performing their deals. So in short, it gets worse before it gets better. I'm pretty sure that you would not call Castillo's contract bloated, or that he is underachieving in any way.

High Prairie viable destination?
Oops my old man just told me that Robaina wanted to build some pricey homes in this area adjacent to Miami Lakes

High Prairie viable destination?
isn't this just south of Miramar? Yes sir. Just a few miles from the Broward-Miami-Dade countyline. this is a 10 minute drive from where I live in Weston Yup. This is easily accessible for many people. LEt's face it I 75 does not havew the congestion that 826 or I 95 do, so no more excuses there isn't this just south of Miramar? Yes sir. Just a few miles from the Broward-Miami-Dade countyline. Meh. That's kinda far for me but oh well! As long as the Marlins get to stay in Florida! :thumbup afew minutes more driving from the Dolphins Stadium site. Not too far

High Prairie viable destination?
Robaina better jump on this if he expects to be mayor for the next 24 years like Martinez was

High Prairie viable destination?
Will people go to Hialeah to see the Marlins play? I remember when I moved from Florida 4 years ago, Hialeah was getting downhill(or so it seemed). I don't know if it has improved since then? Didn't help that we had to go through Miramar either. How so? I have lived here all my life and I can say that it is not going downhill. Property values are pretty darn high in this neck of the woods. Crime is moderate, but significantly less than Carol City or the Area around the OB I would imagine isn't this just south of Miramar? Si
