September 28, 201114 yr What are you guys' best memories from our soon to be former home? -That Conine to Pudge throw to nail Snow. GREAT memory! -A great duel between Randy Johnson and Dontrelle in 03. -Edgar's hit! -One funny one I remember was opening day some years back. We were down, cant remember how many runs, and Lowell blasts a HR that was called foul, which lead to most of the fans throwing the fridge magnet schedules onto the field. For as crappy as the stadium was, and is, it was our home, and Im sure it means a lot to everyone. So many of us called it our second home, and while we now see the death of the Florida Marlins, and rebirth of the Miami Marlins, I still appreciate and love all those times I laughed, cried, screamed and shouted in the stadium.
September 28, 201114 yr First game I ever went to back in 97 vs the Pirates. I was only eight years old and I went with the whole family. I get a fuzzy feeling thinking back to when my family used to still be together, before me and my sister moved out. My parents are a little older and wouldn't even do anything like go to a game these days. I remember walking toward the outfield reserve where my father would love to sit. When I first saw the huge orange seats and the view of the field I just remember being in awe. At that point it was the best stadium in the history of baseball for if you asked me. Some other moments... Wednesday night game in 03, pretty sure ESPN was there... Willis vs Randy Johnson Livan Hernandez 15 k game vs ATL in 97. Conine-Pudge play at the plate game in 03 Yanks Marlins game 5 of World Series I'm going to miss all the great times I had with my friends growing up there. Great place to tailgate, I'm going to miss that the most. We used to just drop kegs in the parking lot in high school basically because we couldn't find any other spot to plop one that night. the night I graduated what felt like the whole class went down there and raged. Cops always knew we were underage but would always just say "Be careful guys". That place was always my sweet spot for taking girls on dates too, what better place do go, right. I live in Palm Beach county so taking them out to the games was still kind of exciting to them. I'm still glad I'm a Dolphin/Canes fan, not ready to say goodbye to that place for good.
September 28, 201114 yr First game of 97 WS...First WS game I had ever attended (having grown up in Chicago)....I still remember Charles Johnson's home run landing in the upper deck, and almost 70,000 people going absolutely crazy!!! Loudest stadium I have even been in!
September 28, 201114 yr September of '97. Marlins down to their last out against the Rockies' closer Jerry DiPoto with the bases loaded. Bobby Bonilla steps up, and he falls behind quickly. He stays alive by fouling off pitch after pitch. Tension builds to a frenzy. And then Bonilla just unloaded, hitting it halfway up the RF orange seats.
September 28, 201114 yr Mine is the one moment that I witnessed in person. The Conine to Pudge throw. Never went to any of the other playoff games, and only went to about 30 regular season games. Those 7pm starts during the week I couldn't make from where I work and weekends are my time with family doing other things (they are not into sports). I usually only went to a game or two regular season games and always went alone (usually during my vacation).
September 28, 201114 yr Did anyone here eyewitness the Gallaraga home run ? The infamous 500+ foot launch ?
September 28, 201114 yr 1997 World Series - I went to every game that postseason because it was back when I had seasons tickets, the Marlins tie it up late and go to extra innings. I had to take a whiz - I wouldn't leave the seat because I didn't want to miss it. Edgar's hit was a relief in more ways than one. 2003 World Series - I only got to the one game, got a crappy upper deck ticket off some scalper... but it was A-Gon's walk off game. Well worth it. Leiter, on my 26th birthday, tossed a no-hitter with me there.
September 28, 201114 yr Did anyone here eyewitness the Gallaraga home run ? The infamous 500+ foot launch ? I was there with my Dad when I was like 7 or 8 and I clearly remember it. He did it off of Kevin Brown. The next at-bat, Kevin Brown hit him and the benches cleared. Probably the farthest hit homerun I have even seen.
September 28, 201114 yr A couple of weird ones - Luis Castillo standing on deck, wtaching Tim Raines drive in the winning run in 2002. The non-AB ended his 35 game hitting streak. Preston Wilson - Walk-off HR against the Cubs - circa 2000.
September 28, 201114 yr I was sitting in the stands, I want to say 1996, and Michael Tucker is in RF for the Braves. I used to heckle Tucker, and this is the day that I started. Somebody, I think Edgar, hits a sinking liner and Tucker traps it. It is a safe call, but Tucker pleads his case and they call Edgar out - stealing an RBI. Next inning Sheff comes up and hits a ball that still hasn't landed. I yelled, "Couldn't trap that one, could you Tucker?" He actually tipped his hat.
September 28, 201114 yr I remember my first game in RF. Bobby Abreu was playing there with the Phillies and some guy in long hair and sunglasses shouts 'hey Bobby!' from the far back of the third base line. Bobby looks over and the guy flicks him off.
September 28, 201114 yr being at the cody cowbell walkoff was amazing. beating the red sox in 2006 and flipping off the red sox fans. josh willingham walk off on billy wagner. jeff conine grand slam against the mets in 2004. cabrera doubling over the head of cliff floyd in the bottom of the 8th off shingo takatsu. hmmmmm... plenty more.
September 28, 201114 yr Moises Alou's homer in 97. My dad picked up up and literally threw me in the air.

September 28, 201114 yr Now in all seriousness - the Marlins going 6-0 in the games I attended in 2003 [Mets, Mets, Phillies, Expos, Braves, Phillies]. Four of those games were comeback wins [1 walkoff], one against the Phillies were when we were down 4-3 going into the bottom of the 8th, runners 1st and 2nd Castillo bunted they got him out, int walk to Pudge and then a deluge of runs, we won 11-4. The one against the Braves we scored 6 in the first, highlighted by Miguel Cabrera's 10th homer of the year [3 run shot just into the seats in right]. The final game I went to we were down 3-0 in the 7th to Philly, Jeff Conine hit a game-tying 3 run homer and we then went on to win 5-3. Getting free tickets from my aunt's co-worker in 2004 RIGHT behind home plate [1st row behind the net] against the Dodgers, we won 2-0, Brad Penny went 7.2 and Armando Benitez got a game-ending double play to save it. 2005 seeing Carlos Delgado absolutely LAUNCH a ball about 30 rows deep in right field against the Mets and Miguel Cabrera later on driving in 3 runs with a double in a game we won 5-4. 2006, seeing Greg Maddux pitch against us [granted end of his career], and in that game Josh Willingham and Joe Borchard hit back to back homers in the 8th [both opposite field] to give us the lead. I got a ball from Borchard later that year on closing day which we won via walkoff against the Phillies. 2009, game against the Reds that went 14 innings and we won, I got a ball from Hanley sitting right behind the dugout. 2010, saw a surprising act, Volstad pitching a complete game against the Nationals. 2011, the only game I went to, Roy Halladay vs Josh Johnson on May 10th, 2-1 victory. Ryan Howard hits a homer in the top of the 2nd, Halladay walks JJ to start the 3rd for his first ever walk to a pitcher, Coghlan hits a hustle double into right center, Bonifacio ALMOST goes deep but ties it with a sac fly. Coghlan eventually drives in the winning run in the 8th after an error at 3rd base allowing Infante to reach, and the Artist formerly Known as Leo Nunez closed the door. Best game I have ever gone to, hands down. I also went to opening day in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. All losses. lol Closing day in 2006 and 2007, both WINS! And of course, being 12 years old and watching the Fish win the World Series in 2003 was great [at home of course]. I became a fan in February of 2003 when I started becoming interested in baseball.
I was at this one....wow that was an amazing game.
September 28, 201114 yr My favorite has to be when Juan Pierre made his return to the field in 2006 with the Cubs and everyone was cheering loudly for him between every inning (we were sitting in the RF seats). Jacque Jones was in right field and he had been heckled and booed at Wrigley for getting off to a slow start. Between rounds of cheering for Pierre my brother and I loudly and mockingly cheered for Jacque Jones. He actually turned around and gave a little half smile, knowing we were pulling his leg.
September 28, 201114 yr josh willingham walk off on billy wagner. I remember this vividly. Fcking awesome season.
September 28, 201114 yr Only been to 2 games, both this year, both losses. So dont really have many memories. Next.....
