Did anyone else find that suprising? Willingham moved up to 12th in the National league in Walks with his first AB with 28. That's solid.

Marlins interested in Borchard
I find it amazing that we share the lead for the lowest CF BA at .154. It is amazing enough that one team has that low a BA in CF, but the fact that two teams share the BA is mind-blowing. :hat

Fathers vs Marlins---4:05et---at the Fish Tank
yay wind! According to gameday it is a 20 mph wind coming in from center field. ...probably not the best day to play long-ball.

Fathers vs Marlins---4:05et---at the Fish Tank
Real smart considering Olivo is hitting .200 and was 0-4 last game and Willingham had two homers in one game and is hitting .333. Shouldn't you be comparing Olivo's stats to Aguila and/or Reed not Willingham's??? :mischief2 Willingham is the catcher of the future and needs to get some starts behind the plate. It doesn't matter what Olivo's or Aguila's stats are.

O's at Marlins
new Marlin Wellemeyer into the game replaces Mitre...lets see what the kid has to offer out of the inning giving up only a walk Wellemeyer was pinch-hit for in the bottom of the inning, bringing his inaugural performance to a close. Good showing.

Catchers
I would like to see Willingham play behind the plate most of the time. He has been working toward this for three years, and there is no sense in throwing that away simply because we don't have a good left fielder now. It will be easier to acquire a LF'er in the future than a C with Willingham's bat. It is tempting to be short sighted in this, but it is not in the best interest of the organization. Stick with it; keep him a catcher. It will be worth it in the long run when we put together the next playoff run ('07, '08, '09...). Additionally, if we do make a surprising run this year and have a shot at the playoffs, we can acquire a LF bat late in the season close to the trade deadline (if not sooner).

Hammer bringing all his gloves to work
Willingham needs to be in lf and will be there opening day. thanks for adding to the conversation das :thumbup where would we be without this past input? look, there really is no other real alternative in left field. I'm not sold on Aguila, although I'm not sold on Willingham neither, though he does have more potential. Willingham isnt good behind the plate, Olivo has the skills necessary to get it done, though he has had some struggles with the bat. Its the best situation for us currently. By far. Moving Willingham to LF is not in the best intrest of the team for the long term. It will be easier to find a LF in the next few years (with all the pitching porspects to trade) than it will be to find a catcher with a bat like Willingham's. He is more valuable to the team in the long term if he can handle the catching. I think he will be able to handle it, and I am not alone on this. The the Marlins seem to think he can handle it. If he is moved to left field now, the Marlins have wasted the last four years of his professional career. Remember the Marlins askd him to switch to catcher. Let's stick with it and let it play out.

Hammer bringing all his gloves to work
Regardless of what happens with the lineup this year, Willingham will be more valuable in the long term as a catcher. We should not be shortsighted in this. If he can handle the catching it will be great for the club for the next 3-5 years. We are working toward another World Series run (especially with all the young pitchers the club has stockpiled, both for the Marlins pitching staff and for trading bait). Willingham will be more valuable to a playoff-caliber team behind the plate than in left field.

If anybody takes some pictures, please share them with the board. I am craving some baseball news/pictures (and some baseball weather). Thanks.

Marlins Bench
So, if Willingham wins the job at catcher does that mean Treanor will not be on the roster? Also, if Willingham is moved to left field who is bumped, Reggie Abercrombie? :mischief2

Offseason report card for 06 from the main site
Willingham, surprisingly, hit most of his HR's on the road in the PCL last year.

Cabrera article
Here's the rotoworld version of the story: Miguel Cabrera has been accused of lambasting a patron after an argument at a Venezuela nightclub early Friday morning. Charges have yet to be filed. Dr. Gustavo Agreda, chief anesthesiologist at an area hospital, said that a drunken Cabrera became verbally abusive to his son and girlfriend as they tried to leave the establishment's parking lot. The incident then became physiscal with Cabrera's cousins/bodyguards involved. "I didn't hit anybody and nobody hit me," Cabrera said in reponse. "I was in the company of a group of people leaving a locale in the city of Maracay when a fight broke out in which I was not involved. I understand that of all the people there I was probably the most recognizable, and maybe that's why I'm being included without having any responsibility whatsoever in said incident." Marlins VP of communications P.J. Loyello said the organization is aware of the matter and satisfied Cabrera was in no way involved. Jan. 10 - 1:52 pm et
