  1. That quote certainly came at a time when America's relations with Mexico were at an all-time low. I'm sure he would feel different today if he saw how things were now. And our relations with Mexico aren't low right now? We've got the Mexican military crossing over onto American soil giving escorts to drug runners while shooting at border patrol agents in the process. As for the people on here who actually took offense to what I posted which was nothing more than a quote by a former president, how insecure can you possibly be? Rather than try and insult me for posting a quote by a former president, why don't you form a good argument against what TR said like several others in this thread have already done, instead of acting like a 2 year old? most people seem to realize that when this was said the us was at a different point in its evolution and things were different than how they are now. but you can't admit that. how insecure can you be? back then you wouldnt expect officals to speak anything but english and now our prez gives conferences in spanish. let alone the fact there are multiracial w.h. officials now. get out of the past things have changed so quit whining and showing the intelligence of a 2 year old.
  2. wouldn't he be a super 2...or whatever it's called? meaning he's arby-eligible after this year. why wasn't cabs one of those then? according to espn cabs is only making like half a mill this year.
  3. ^__^ You really think that one year of Wright at a few million is worth trading willis? Of course not! They would trade Willis to a few elite prospects that have 3 years of club control at minimum. 2 years for wright. under a mill next year then making what willis is making this year in 2008. after 2008 a stadium deal or move of some sort should be made which means at that point payroll will most likely go up again meaning they will keep wright after that point.
  4. they're trying to develop their young players, figure out which of those players will be in our long-term plans, like moe, herges and borowski? they could have spent more money and done better on than these guys. but like you said they dont care about winning this year or next year which is why i don't think they'll be paying dontrelle next year close to $10 mill when they dont care about winning 70 or 80 games.
  5. the money issue you speak of assumes the team isn't willing to go over it's current payroll. from what i understand david samson wanted the payroll to be below $30-35 million. beinfest went further down because he wanted to just start over. this means we can afford to pay willis and miggy next season. we still won't be at $30 million. if they really left over $10 mill on the table then you have to question their wanting to win. because everyone knew this bullpen would struggle and it wouldn't have hurt to get an extra starter in place of moe so i really doubt they left money on the table unless they are really sadistic.
  6. And then next year, he'll make what Willis made.... yeah wright buys us 2 years when compared to willis. at this point if you dont realize it is all about money with this situation i dont know what to tell you. the money aspect over rules all.
  7. Still, he'll be arby-eligible. yeah but he'll make what cabs made this year which is peanuts. willis is due about 9 mill next year, cabs will be due about 5 mill and wright will be making under a mill maybe a little more.
  8. I could have sworn Wright made his deubt in 2002... http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/wrighda03.shtml Debut July 21, 2004
  9. there are a lot of sites that dispell about 85% of that movie
  10. Anyway...to answer your question. Yes, if I absolutely had to trade Willis, I would trade him for prospects. What's the point of trading him for one year of Wright, a player I think is marginally worse? So you can then turn around and trade Wright for a player who is marginally worse than him? It just doesn't make sense. It's like you're just running in place and getting marginally worse all the time. Better to trade for a bunch of prospects and hope for bigger future returns. This team should not be making trades with an eye towards next year. They're still going to suck next year. They need to be looking 3 years down the road. i think you are failing to realize with the marlins at this point their focus as a team is not to lose money and to being to try and sell themselves to a city. i think it would be a lot harder selling themselves if all they are is cabs and a bunch of second year players versus being cabs and wright and a bunch of second year players, because at least then they could tout having 2 top 10 hitters. if the trades last year didn't tell you anything you should realize the marlins are not concerned about getting equal value back it is about saving money while putting up the veil of trying and trying to eek out as many wins for the least money as possible. at least injecting wright into the lineup would be a huge upgrade to the lineup. I believe you make room for talents like Cabrera and Wright some how. Whether its moving Cabrera to RF and Hermida CF or Wright/Cabrera to 1B. I don't know what we should do but you got to be crazy to pass on Wright for Willis if the Mets agree. Call me crazy then, because not only do I believe Willis has more value than Wright but I also believe that "making room" for Wright is just plain silly. willis next year will be making about $8-9 mill wright next year will be making under $2 mill you plan on footing the bill? cause i don't forsee loria paying this years whole payroll to two players next year.
  11. Wright CAN'T be the answer. He is arbitration ELIGIBLE. In fact, he's a year ahead of Willis, isn't he???/ willis made his debut 2003, wright july 2004. you guys are weird or just dumb.
  12. I'm just curious how that found its way into your post. It just makes absolutely no sense in relation to anything I said. I'm dumbfounded. well who would you propose we trade willis for if it comes down to it? you arent going to get equal value for him but you dont seem to think wright is the answer. believe that willis will be on the team next year with no deal of any sort for the team just dont be disappointed when he isn't. we could trade him for a bunch of prospects but we can't market prospects like we can market a willis or cabs or even a wright. and if there is no deal in place marketability is still important to the team to try and get the deal. you said he shouldnt be highly reguarded, i guess rookies being top 10 hitters in your eyes come along alot.

i get the cheapest gas around it just cost me a bottle of mouthwash.
  14. Isn't Wright just a little bit overrated? There's no doubt he's good, but his numbers don't justify him being THIS highly regarded. He was 15th in the NL in OPS last year. Willis was 3rd in ERA, and almost won the Cy Young Award. I have no idea why Wright is considered more valuable. Plus, Willis is one of the most marketable players in the game. I believe you make room for talents like Cabrera and Wright some how. Whether its moving Cabrera to RF and Hermida CF or Wright/Cabrera to 1B. I don't know what we should do but you got to be crazy to pass on Wright for Willis if the Mets agree. Call me crazy, then, cause I would never agree to that deal. willis is gonna get traded in the next 365 days in all likely hood unless a stadium deal is reached or the marlins agree to move some other place cause otherwise he will be making 3/4 of this year's payroll, depending how he does this year. if there is no stadium deal or no move planned i doubt payroll will go up. wright offers an extra year of being able to afford a marketable player and he is a good hitter. last year in his first full year he finished top 10 in hits, total bases, doubles, rbis, extra base hits and batting average. you're right he sucks. :plain
  15. cabs can play lf too and wright gives us 1 more year of cheapness because he made his debut the summer of 2004. wright-cabs-willingham is a killer 3-5.
  16. LT is so ridiculously overrated. Tiki Barber > LT when i think tiki barber all i hear is "FUMBLE!" let's see if last year was a fluke or something real for him in that department
  17. I don't watch the olympics so I could care less The proper phrase is "couldn't care less", you imbecile. If you "could care less" that implies there is more you caring that can be done. Please go drink a gallon of bleach. you have won my support. we can go around giving countries the shocker.

  22. Sigh...you just don't get it. It doesn't upset me. If it upsets anyone, it's you, since you posted it. I don't see the big deal. I bet in five minutes I could find a picture of Al Gore sleeping. Then again, it'd be hard to tell the difference between that and a picture of him awake. And I haven't resorted to any personal attacks on you, you should do the same for me. dude look how much you posted on this. you are rather opinionated over this for it being nothing. all i said on it was :lol . i already understand you dont think news can be funny. so this thread isnt for you. and you told me what i think, very grown up of you. go take the nap cranky or ill start telling you what to think.
