ncaa adds 5th bcs bowl and 4 other bowl games (1 in canada)
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2424711 NCAA approves 31 bowl games for 2006 Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA approved four new bowls Thursday, including a fifth Bowl Championship Series game in Glendale, Ariz., which will host the national championship Jan. 8. The BCS added the fifth game more than a year ago and the NCAA's approval was a formality. The other new games are the International Bowl, which will be played in Toronto; the Birmingham Bowl, and the New Mexico Bowl. The NCAA board of directors also approved a proposal allowing teams with .500 records to qualify for bowl games if the conference has a contract with a bowl game. Also, teams with .500 records could earn bowl bids if all other Division I-A teams with winning records have been taken and postseason spots still remain vacant. The postseason football licensing subcommittee approved 31 games and the number could grow to 32 by the start of the 2006 season. A decision on the Houston Bowl, which was one of 28 bowl games last season, was delayed until June. Representatives from the Big 12, Big East, Conference USA and Mountain West asked for the delay because they want better management of the game. "It is this subcommittee's goal to provide the best experience for student-athletes, coaches and staffs, and the fans and to support the long-term viability of the bowl system," Mark Womack, the subcommittee chairman, said in a written statement. "We had to make some very difficult decisions, but we feel they are decisions made in the interests of a successful postseason." Bowls that were renewed for next season: the AutoZone Liberty, Capital One, Champs Sports, Chick-Fil-A, Emerald, Fed Ex Orange, Gaylord Hotels Music City, GMAC, Independence, Insight, Pioneer Pure Vision Las Vegas, MasterCard Alamo, Meineke Car Care, MPC Computers, Motor City, Allstate Sugar, Outback, Pacific Life Holiday, San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia, Fort Worth, Rose, AT&T Cotton, Hawaii, Tostitos Fiesta, Toyota Gator, Vitalis Sun and New Orleans. The subcommittee said nearly $192 million in bowl revenue was distributed last season and that about 1.4 million fans attended last season's 28 bowl games.

espn couldnt help but take a pot shot at loria
wtf? in a list of the top 100 worst picks ever  http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...oenfield/060427 "50. Stephon Marbury, Milwaukee Bucks (No. 4, 1996) But he's been a two-time All-Star! I don't want to hear it. This guy has destroyed more franchises than Jeffrey Loria." the marlins also made the list: "33. Josh Booty, Florida Marlins (No. 5, 1994) Booty was a heralded prep quarterback/shortstop who turned down LSU to sign with the Marlins for $1.6 million. Moved to third base, he had a cannon of an arm that made old men weep and little girls faint. He could hit the ball a ton ? when he made contact. In 589 minor league games he hit .212 and struck out 710 times. He eventually did go play QB at LSU and spent a season as a backup with the Browns."

Out of Whack Stat
ok fine, aguila hasn't gotten an error since 2004 so he is just fine defensively. he knows what he is doing out there and can handle it. and its not like production out of cf can get any worse as is. willingham/aguila/hermida would be just fine with me.
-
Out of Whack Stat
Who is the everyday CF then? might as well as give aguila a try there he started a game there last year and didn't make an error so why not?

Ricky Williams Looses Appeal
Great he is a dumbass. I occasionally smoke pot too does that make me a dumbass? I have a great career and life. The bottomline is Ricky was on the track to get his life back in order. I imagine that this substance had to do with his rehab/yoga/world travelling or whatever he is doing. Well if he is being penalized for using a natural substance that is only going to better his life and not enhance his playing ability then I think this is a poor decision. We got guys in the league who beat women, assault people, steal, and possibly kill and they get nothing but a wrist slap. but ricky knew these tests were coming it wasn't out of the blue he was like a third time offender so he gets tested an insane amount of times. could he not just have asked the guy one time he met up with 'em like "hey can i take this?" but he didn't have the common sense to do that. ricky smokes weed and gets busted going 100+ mph on the highway, good combination. i am sure he has smoked some weed then went blazin' down the road at least once and that is just a dandy thought. and yeah randy mcmichael and the rest of those guys are lowlifes who do that, but they have to answer to a higher power like the police. i dont think you can get arrested for testing positive for pot at your workplace, nfl or joe's deli. you go kill someone yeah that'll get you in trouble with the law its not the nfls place to rule their players off the field that is really up to the law. they do the drug testing to protect the players and their product on the field. they are a private business and have stipulations in place of what is and isnt allowed in their employees bodies.

Ricky Williams Looses Appeal
If in fact it was marijuana then you have a point. I am making my statement on the basis that it wasn't pot. :hat they said before it wasnt pot. but that is besides the point he knew how many strikes he had against him and then next one was it for him he shoulda been a little more careful. if he wasn't a dumb@$$ and got caught smoking pot a bunch of times before this wouldnt of mattered.

Ricky Williams Looses Appeal
That makes me sick. NFL is a joke. the real joker is the one who gets caught 30749874896 fricken times with this. at some point a light bulb in that head of his shoulda lit up.

Willis was offered to the Mets!!
Willis rumor dismissed: Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria didn't even wait for a reporter to ask the question before he shot down the latest trade rumor involving Willis. A story in Newsday claimed the Marlins made a "bombshell trade suggestion" to the Mets over the past several weeks. According to the paper, someone on the Marlins called the Mets to propose a Wills for third baseman David Wright trade. "It never happened," Loria said Monday afternoon at Wrigley Field. "It's an invention of some irresponsible writer." Loria noted the Marlins are trying to build a team, and parting with Willis is not part of those plans. It's the second time in a few weeks that Loria has shot down reports saying Willis and even Miguel Cabrera may be traded. During the Marlins first homestand, the team owner said reports saying Willis and Cabrera will be traded are "irresponsible." And Loria has so much credibility? :lol :lol :lol like you do?

lh-rp: marlins could use 1
gotta love those righty-lefty matchups. in a division with johnson, howard, etc. you would think we'd have at least 1 lh-rp. jones showed why we could use one tonight.
