  1. the name of her game is paris hilton's jewel jam and she called it diamondquest Paris Hilton causes commotion at LA video game expo Associated Press LOS ANGELES ? Paris Hilton unveiled her new video game on Thursday, but inexplicably called it by the wrong name as she greeted throngs of fans and photographers. Wearing a green minidress and red platform pumps, Hilton made a brief appearance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo to promote Paris Hilton's Jewel Jam. "Sorry I'm late," the heiress said. "I'm really excited to have my new video game, Diamondquest. Thank you all for coming, and you can download the game," she said. After Hilton arrived, men in business suits jockeyed for space with reporters and computer geeks as she sat at a table posing for photographers while signing autographs. Her game, which can be played on a cell phone, will be available this summer. Video game maker Gameloft will produce a series of video games with Hilton. The expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center showcases the latest innovations in the video game industry. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/tech/news/3857991.html venezuela cares:

  3. GlaxoSmithKline warns Paxil may raise suicide risk E-mail | Print | RSS Feed | Disable live quotes By Jennifer Corbett Dooren Last Update: 2:44 PM ET May 12, 2006 WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Food and Drug Administration and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) said Friday a recent analysis of clinical trials involving its antidepressant Paxil showed a small increase in suicidal behavior in young adults. The company said it conducted an analysis of studies that involved 8,958 patients on Paxil and 5,953 on placebo, or a fake pill. "Results of this analysis showed a higher frequency of suicidal behavior in young adults treated with paroxetine compared with placebo," the FDA said in a statement posted to its Web site Friday. GlaxoSmithKline detailed the results of the analysis in a letter to health-care professionals and updated the drug's label to reflect the results. Paxil, and other antidepressants, already carry a black-box warning about a possible increase in suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children and adolescents. One of the analysis included looking at adults with major depression and it found a small increase in the frequency of suicidal behavior among patients on Paxil compared with placebo. "However as the absolute number and incidence of events are small, these data should be interpreted with caution," the FDA said. Results of the analysis showed a higher frequency of suicidal behavior in young adults, although the finding did not reach statistical significance. It showed that 17 out of 776 young adults ages 18 to 24, compared with 5 out of 542 on placebo, reported an increase in suicidal behavior, such as thinking about suicide or attempting it. In people older than age 24 there was no increase overall. But in an analysis of adults with major depressive disorder, it showed small but statistically significant increase in suicidal behavior among adults on Paxil. It showed that 11 out of 3,455 patients reported some type of suicidal behavior compared with 1 out of 1,978 patients on placebo. Eight of the 11 events were non-fatal suicide attempts and the majority of them occurred in adults ages 18 to 30. Paxil's label had already recommended that doctors treating patients with major depression carefully watch their patients for worsening depression and the emergence of suicidal ideation and behavior. http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Story/Stor...C3D0B}&keyword=

  6. first off giuliani wouldn't "destroy" hillary because who is the senator of new york right now and who pulled out of the race early on because there was no real way of them winning the race? answer: hillary is the senator of NY and rudy is the one who pulled out because there was no way he was going to beat her in his "own state". rudy's pro-choice, pro-gay right's and pro-immigration really does not sit well with most of the republican base. he also is anti-unions and that does not sit well with democrats. this is the same man who put the emergency managment offices inside the twin towers after the first attack in retrospect that was a good choice or not. you would think you would want to put those offices somewhere safe incase you might actually need them in case of an attack. yeah he cleaned up the city but at what cost? he came down hard on things rarely enforced like jaywalking and turnstile jumping. he cracked down on all the small things. interestingly enough crime rates went down nationwide during his reign as mayor and many big cities like chicago and la saw drop in crime and i don't think that can be traced back to rudy. the 1990s marked a changed in american culture nyc just tends to be very visible. this guy is just remembered because he was the only visible authority figure on 9/11 since washington officials were either plane hopping or hiding. NYC is alot better shape than it was but i think a lot of people just blow smoke up rudy's behind. and there is no way he will ever win the presidency of this nation.
  7. O.J. Simpson Pulls White Bronco Prank on 'Juiced' Friday, May 12, 2006 LOS ANGELES ? In a scene from his new candid-camera program "Juiced," O.J. Simpson pulls a prank involving the infamous white Bronco, drawing criticism from the family of a man he was accused of killing. As part of the pay-per-view show, Simpson pretends to sell the Bronco at a used car lot and boasts to a prospective buyer that he made the vehicle famous, according to a segment aired Thursday on "Inside Edition." "It was good for me ? it helped me get away," Simpson said, referring to the slow-speed, televised police chase that preceded his 1994 arrest on charges of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. Goldman's father, Fred, told "Inside Edition" he found Simpson's comment "morally reprehensible." Simpson was acquitted of murder. A civil jury later held him liable for the deaths and ordered him to pay $33.5 million to the Brown and Goldman families. Much of that judgment remains unpaid. "Any money that he makes, I hope, will go to satisfy the multimillion dollar judgment made against him in the civil case," said Brown family attorney Gloria Allred. The hour-long program is airing on pay-per-view this month, and a DVD offering uncensored material will be made available soon, "Juiced" executive producer Rick Mahr told The Associated Press. Other practical jokes include Simpson disguised as an Elvis impersonator, a vagabond selling oranges for money and an elderly man leading a Bingo game. Simpson was not paid for the program, Mahr said. "Basically O.J. Simpson has decided to do this because he wants to do it, and he wanted to have fun with it," Mahr said. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,195258,00.html

  9. Source: Deal is reached for QB A source said the Dolphins and Lions agreed to a deal that will send Joey Harrington to Miami. Meanwhile, Ricky Williams may get permission to talk to the CFL. BY JASON COLE Quarterback Joey Harrington apparently is headed south, and suspended running back Ricky Williams appears closer to heading north. A source close to Harrington said Thursday night the Dolphins and Detroit Lions have worked out a deal to send the former No. 3 overall draft pick to Miami. Harrington was scheduled to participate in a charity event next week but had to cancel because he will have to be in Miami to take part in the opening of organized training activity. That activity essentially is team practices that lead to a three-day minicamp for all players June 9-11. The Dolphins want to have Harrington with the team now so he can learn the offense. Meanwhile, Toronto Argonauts assistant general manager Greg Mohns indicated that talks between the Dolphins and the Canadian Football League team were ``progressing.'' ''Something may get done here pretty soon,'' Mohns said Thursday. Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said the team had no comment on the matter. As for Harrington, terms of the deal were unavailable. The Dolphins had been offering a sixth-round pick in the 2007 draft. But that was before the NFL Draft in April. Lions president Matt Millen had irritated coach Nick Saban by mistakenly accusing the Dolphins of breaking salary cap rules by working out a deal with Harrington earlier in April. However, talks on a deal continued last weekend, with two sources indicating the Dolphins hoped to have Harrington by Monday. Harrington, who is due a $4 million roster bonus June 15, has agreed to forgo that bonus to sign with the Dolphins. He essentially ruined any leverage for Detroit by declaring in April that he wouldn't agree to restructure his contract with any other team besides the Dolphins. Harrington, who has thrown 60 touchdown passes and 62 interceptions in his four-year career, followed through on that declaration when he declined to go to the Cleveland Browns on the second day of the draft, prompting Millen's accusation. On the Williams front, the Dolphins initially didn't like the idea of the running back playing in Canada, but they backed off after agent Leigh Steinberg pointed out the financial burden facing Williams, who was suspended by the NFL for a minimum of one year. One source said of Williams heading to Canada: 'Unless it blows up, the Dolphins are not going to stand in [Williams'] way of playing.'' Last Friday, Saban indicated he wasn't particularly enamored of the idea of Williams risking injury by playing in Canada. However, Saban never completely shut the door on the idea. Steinberg, who could not be reached Thursday, has countered that by saying Williams needs to make money at some point. Williams is supporting three children by three women. In addition, he and longtime girlfriend Kristen Barnes are expecting their second child. Williams is obligated to pay $50,400 annually in child support for one of the three children. The other child support arrangements are not known. Once Toronto gets formal permission, Williams and Steinberg are expected to fly there to discuss a contract. Argonauts GM Adam Rita indicated this week that Williams could earn approximately $300,000 Canadian (about $272,000 U.S.) in base pay and incentives. A deal could be done fairly quickly. The Argonauts open training camp May 21 and open the regular season June 16. Williams is expected to go through regular drug tests during his year away from the NFL in order to help prove his case for reinstatement. MOORE RETURNS Linebacker Eddie Moore couldn't stay healthy, but he has managed to stay a Dolphin. At least for now. Moore, who was traded Wednesday to New Orleans for linebacker Courtney Watson, failed a physical with the Saints. That canceled the trade and returned each player to his team. The result is not surprising, given that Moore finished each of his three seasons with the Dolphins on injured reserve and didn't finish his final season in college because of injury. The teams might revisit the deal. ? The Dolphins also have spoken with the Saints about acquiring backup running back Michael Bennett, whom New Orleans signed earlier in the offseason to a two-year, $3 million deal before drafting running back Reggie Bush. Miami Herald sportswriter Armando Salguero contributed to this report. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/14558230.htm

  11. i dont think people are saying illegals have an easy time or anything like that but they are ILLEGALS. you can't act like this is a victimless crime because once they are legalized and they bring all their families all the people on the list to immigrate legally will have to wait all the longer. you are giving people who broke the laws and went around the system a pat on the back and all the people who want to follow the rules the middle finger. not everyone who wants to immigrate here and want to become a citizen can just run across a border and now they just have to wait longer. the illegals came here to make money i don't think they would care if it was america, canada, france, where ever it was they were crossing the border into as long as it offered them the all mighty dollar and the chance to thrive. if bush wasn't so soft on this issue and just continued the system clinton was running this wouldn't even be as big of an issue. clinton tried to clamp down on companies who hired illegals and bush completely cut that off that way of dealing with the problem.

  15. :plain (directed at everyone but Lefty) lefty made his points but i also think everyone that has posted her has made valid points themselves... well except the canadian, lets be real, its Canada. you cant hate on someone who went through all this trouble to legally get their residency and citizenship for feeling resentment towards someone who just had it all awarded to him or her with the mere signing of a law it's not that simple. the people who are here illegally are basically living in the shadows, risked their lives to be here, live in constant fear, and are exploited day in and day out. they live through a lot of hardship while they're here (and their employers benefit immensely by their presence), so it's not exactly true that they get their residency handed to them. plus, the plan put in place would legalize those folks that have played by the rules, worked hard, paid their taxes, and haven't gotten into their trouble. we're not going to legalize people that are lazy and mooch off citizens. rather, this would reward hard work and recognize the economy's need for these workers. i think the fact that others have waited a long time to get their residency does not mean that we shouldn't legalize those people that are here undocumented. rather, it means that we have a broken system that doesn't give a rat's ass about immigrants - legal or illegal. people should not have to wait 10 years to be admitted into this country. if they meet the requirements they ought to be let in. that means the immigration system is broken and way too bureaucratic. let's fix that, and let's also legalize those people that have been here playing by the rules. the ones here illegally cut in line. so we reward them now? give me a break. and there are more than just mexicans who want into this country. carlos mencia was on the radio the other day bashing every single illegal here saying they should go back and we should let in the next 11 million on the list of legal immigration. of course he doesnt think that will happen. legalize the 11 million immigrants here and soon those 11 million illegals will turn into 50 million legal immigrants because those people have wives, kids, etc. back at "home". meanwhile the people on the legal lists have to wait longer. it's not suppose to be easy to immigrate, open borders are not safe ask france. the legals here may be "playing by the rules" but they broke the rules by coming here and the law.

  17. DOJ- hey guys we want to investigate what is going on you mind? NSA- yes we mind you don't have clearance leave us alone we are a private entity fod off. NSA Stymies Justice Dept. Spying Probe Staff and agencies 11 May, 2006 By DEVLIN BARRETT, Associated Press Writer 12 minutes ago WASHINGTON - The government has abruptly ended an inquiry into the warrantless eavesdropping program because the National Security Agency refused to grant Justice Department lawyers the necessary security clearance to probe the matter. "We have been unable to make any meaningful progress in our investigation because OPR has been denied security clearances for access to information about the NSA program," OPR counsel H. Marshall Jarrett wrote to Hinchey. Hinchey?s office shared the letter with The Associated Press. "Without these clearances, we cannot investigate this matter and therefore have closed our investigation," wrote Jarrett. Roehrkasse noted the OPR?s mission is not to investigate possible wrongdoing in other agencies, but to determine if Justice Department lawyers violated any ethical rules. He declined to comment when asked if the end of the inquiry meant the agency believed its lawyers had handled the wiretapping matter ethically. "This administration thinks they can just violate any law they want, and they?ve created a culture of fear to try to get away with that. It?s up to us to stand up to them," said Hinchey. Bush?s decision to authorize the largest U.S. spy agency to monitor people inside the United States, without warrants, generated a host of questions about the program?s legal justification. Separately, the Justice Department sought last month to dismiss a federal lawsuit accusing the telephone company AT&T of colluding with the Bush administration?s warrantless wiretapping program. The lawsuit, brought by an Internet privacy group, does not name the government as a defendant, but the Department of Justice has sought to quash the lawsuit, saying it threatens to expose government and military secrets. 18. Cafferty: We all hope nothing happens to Arlen Specter, the Republican head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, cause he might be all that stands between us and a full blown dictatorship in this country. He's vowed to question these phone company executives about volunteering to provide the government with my telephone records, and yours, and tens of millions of other Americans. Shortly after 9/11, AT7T, Verizon, and BellSouth began providing the super-secret NSA with information on phone calls of millions of our citizens, all part of the War on Terror, President Bush says. Why don't you go find Osama bin Laden, and seal the country's borders, and start inspecting the containers that come into our ports? The President rushed out this morning in the wake of this front page story in USA Today and declared the government is doing nothing wrong, and all this is just fine. Is it? Is it legal? Then why did the Justice Department suddenly drop its investigation of the warrantless spying on citizens because the NSA said Justice Department lawyers didn't have the necessary security clearance to do the investigation. Read that sentence again. A secret government agency has told our Justice Department that it's not allowed to investigate it. And the Justice Department just says ok and drops the whole thing. We're in some serious trouble, boys and girls" http://movies.crooksandliars.com/TSR-Caffe...ictatorship.mov

  20. Perpetual Student Wants One More Year After 12 Years in College, He Wants to Study Abroad WHITEWATER, Wis. (May 10) - Despite his 12 years as an undergraduate student, Johnny Lechner realized something was missing from his academic record: he'd never studied abroad. Johnny Lechner says college is just too much fun to quit. And so, the 29-year-old perpetual student who was expected to finally graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater withdrew his application for graduation Monday, five days before commencement. "I realized that if I went one more year, I could study abroad," Lechner said. "That's one thing I haven't done." Lechner's extended academic career has made him a celebrity of sorts. His never-ending student life has been featured in newspapers and on network television shows, not to mention campus publications across the nation. By this spring he had completed 234 college credits, or about 100 more than needed to graduate, and was taking seven more. That qualified him for the so-called "slacker tax," instituted this school year by the UW Board of Regents to help cover the state subsidy for students who stay long past the usual four of five years to earn an undergraduate degree. It calls for students who exceed 165 total credit hours or 30 more than their degree programs require - whichever is higher - to pay double tuition. Lechner said he didn't start out to be a long-term student, but it just developed once he realized how much fun he was having at college. Had he graduated, he would have earned a liberal studies degree in education, communications, theater, health and women's studies. Michelle Eigenberger, an editor at The Royal Purple, said Lechner may have achieved celebrity status, but most students are tired of it. "It's getting old," she said. "For the sanity of the rest of the campus, we want him to get out of here." 05/10/06 14:34 EDT Copyright 2006 The Associated Press. Houston Rockets' Juwan Howard faces charges of stealing sunglasses from South Beach store BY SUSAN ANASAGASTI sanasagasti@MiamiHerald.com Pro basketball player Juwan Howard is facing charges he stole an expensive pair of sunglasses from a South Beach store. Miami Beach police told The Miami Herald they'll seek a warrant for Howard's arrest today. Howard, who plays forward with the Houston Rockets, was at Eye Q Optical at 760 Ocean Dr. on Saturday, trying on several sunglasses. He paid $192 for a pair, according to a Miami Beach police report. As he was paying with his credit card, Howard pocketed a pair of $1,695 Cartier shades and walked off, according to police. A surveillance camera recorded the scene, police said. The 6-9, 230-pound forward owns a condo on Brickell Key and a home in the Coral Gables area. The Rockets finished 34-48 and out of the playoffs. A call to the Houston Rockets media relations department was not immediately returned on Thursday morning. 25. Iob, other players disciplined for fight Reuters RIGA, Latvia -- Italy's Tony Iob was suspended from the world ice hockey championships on Thursday for his part in a fight near the end of a preliminary round game against Ukraine. The International Ice Hockey Federation hit Iob with a three-game ban, effectively ending his world championships, for attacking Ukraine's Sergi Klymenitiev in the corridor of Skonto Arena after they were ejected from Wednesday's game. Klymentiev has been handed a two-game ban but the Ukrainian federation has already lodged an appeal against the punishment. "I was told that we have appealed the suspension," defenseman Klymentiev, who plays for Russian Superleague champions AK Bars Kazan, told reporters before sitting out Thursday's game against Russia. "I still don't understand why they have suspended me," he said. "The guy [iob] hit me from behind and I didn't even get a chance to hit back as police and off-ice officials jumped in and pulled him back." The IIHF said Iob faces possible further sanctions. The Italian was suspended from the 2002 world championships in Sweden for elbowing a Swiss player in the head, knocking him unconscious, and was later banned from the 2003 worlds. Canadian-born Iob, a ninth round Buffalo Sabres draft pick in 1991, has been involved in a long list of disturbing episodes throughout a career spent primarily in European leagues. The most bizarre incident occurred in the 1994 Italian league season when Iob picked up a lighter from the debris thrown on the ice during a bench clearing brawl and grabbed an opponent's jersey before attempting to set him on fire. During his junior hockey career, Iob was charged for assault with a weapon after a fan was hit with a stick near the penalty box during a game. "We suspended him in 2002 and it carried over to 2003," said IIHF spokesman Szymon Szemberg. "Here he is suspended for the rest of the tournament and this could be brought up again at the IIHF council meeting at the end of the championships. "The suspensions were decided late last night and he is finished here. You can't take a decision [on] a player's future career quickly and everyone agreed." Iob has spent the last three seasons with Klagenfurter AC and is among the Austrian league's top scorers. He played for Italy at the Torino Olympics getting two goals and two assists. The IIHF also said Russia's Kirill Koltsov would receive a one-game suspension for making physical contact with a referee in Wednesday's game against Slovakia while Belarus's Uladzimir Denisov got a one-game ban for a dangerous hit from behind. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2441016
