April 23, 200620 yr Sometime within the last several weeks, the Marlins offered Dontrelle Willis to the Mets for David Wright, according to Newsday. That wasn't going to work. Willis for Jose Reyes would have been more realistic, though the Marlins now have Hanley Ramirez and the Mets probably would have turned it down anyway. As inexpensive as he is right now, Wright might be the game's most valuable property. Albert Pujols is the only obviously better bet for the next five years, and he'll make $77 million during that time. Apr. 23 - 12:50 pm et Source: Newsday
April 23, 200620 yr Author Doubtful. We already have a pretty good 3rd baseman. :whistle Cabs could go back to the outfield and we have an abundance of pitching in the minors....Although I am not in favor of trading Willis but Wright is awesome.
April 23, 200620 yr Already posted this morning. http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...showtopic=60409 See also "anatomy of a rumor" in the same thread.

April 23, 200620 yr Yeah, because that makes tons of sense. Are we sure we didn't offer him to the Cardinals for Scott Rolen?
April 23, 200620 yr Yeah, because that makes tons of sense. Are we sure we didn't offer him to the Cardinals for Scott Rolen? What about to the Padres for Vinny Castilla and a bag of mini carrots? Because Jose Reyes and Dontrelle have commensurate talent...
April 23, 200620 yr Why would we offer Willis straight up for Wright, when they are both arbitration eligible... ANd if we traded Willis, it would be for more than one player.

April 23, 200620 yr :lol :lol :lol Let me tell you this would be a great trade, considering we dont have a 3rd baseman...Please, WHAT A JOKE!!
April 23, 200620 yr All I am gonna says is yes he is a 3rd baseman, but if you trade Willis then Cabs is right behind him.
April 23, 200620 yr All I am gonna says is yes he is a 3rd baseman, but if you trade Willis then Cabs is right behind him. Good point. But again, why would they swap arby-eligible players?

Oh I think this rumor is false. You aren't trading Willis for David Wright. If you are thinking about trading Willis it should be for multiple elite prospects, not one player with alot of talent. There is no reason to trade for a 3B to build around since you already have one, and I don't think you would trade for Wright and then trade him for prospects when you could just deal Willis for prospects. Not to mention the fact the Muts are in your divison. So it just doesn't make alot of sense.
April 23, 200620 yr Im glad so many of you like Willis but David Wright has more value than Dontrelle. If Cabrera is 1A, David Wright is 2A.
April 23, 200620 yr Im glad so many of you like Willis but David Wright has more value than Dontrelle. If Cabrera is 1A, David Wright is 2A. It's nice of you to look at things like that, but your own post answers why it's a stupid trade. Cabrera is 1A, David Wright is 2A. Cabrera plays third base, David Wright plays third base. Cabrera plays for us already.
April 23, 200620 yr And it looks like Hammer is staying in LF. Now dont think im saying Hammer is better than Wright but if Cabs were to be going back to the OF were would Hammer go if Hermida has RF.
April 23, 200620 yr cabs can play lf too and wright gives us 1 more year of cheapness because he made his debut the summer of 2004. wright-cabs-willingham is a killer 3-5.

Unless that means the end of Jacobs and Hammer goes to 1b or Cabrera goes to 1b or Wright goes to 1b. But it didnt happen so im not losing sleep on this.
