2012: The Issues
AMT isn't scaled to keep up with inflation, so you are right that it is now affecting a lot of middle class families. AMT was initially enacted in 1969 to get at 155 high-income taxpayers who filed returns with no tax due. Big deal. Most of them owned nothing but tax-exempt munis. If you're gonna exempt muni-bond interest, then exempt it. The AMT is the dumbest thing we've ever done -- a pure class-warfare thing. My preference is to throw the entire IRC out and start over with a 10 to 15% flat tax and a large personal exemption, say 20K per head. Since that's not likely to happen, Romney's plan is the next best thing available. He wants to cut marginal tax rates 20% and cap TOTAL deductions. It reduces marginal rates, which increases incentives for work, saving, investment and risk-taking, and thus growth. It avoids the realtors and other lobbyists (against eliminating the deduction for state income taxes, for instance) whining about their particular deductions. Any taxpayer can use whichever deductions they wish, subject to an overall cap. A cap of 100K wouldn't affect anyone in the "middle class," they would get a net tax cut. Romney himself would take a big time hit on his own idea, his 3 mill charitable contribution deduction for '11 would be capped at, say, 100K and he would pay 28% of 2.9 mill instead of zero on that 3 mill. (I'm using round numbers for illustration only.) The top rate goes from 35% to 28%, but more income gets taxed. Revenue neutral, but growth positive. Which results in increased growth and tax revenue. The "rich" wind up paying even more than they do now -- the top 10% already pay 70% of all income taxes today. That's something that can actually be passed into law, because no sacred cow deductions get thrown out -- mortgage interest, state income taxes, state sales taxes, charitable contributions, medical expenses, etc. Politics? Class Battles? Math? Taxes? f*** this. [img.]insertSEINFELDgif[./img]

Have they said they are rebuilding? I don't believe they have, just that payroll will go down. Like the Yankees going down as well.

Marlins interview Mike Redmond
I wonder who the mandatory minority interview will go to. That's still a rule, right? I would sarcastically protest that stupid ass rule. Lets say the one person you want to run you team is avialble, you call him up and he says yes right away. Why should you then need a dog and pony show where you interview another candidate just to satisfy a sh*t rule? I would randomly get some fan and hold a new conference with that person where they say they interviewed. I would structure it like a parody video. They can interview Erick, or Michael Hill.

Piazza is right. Where did the signatures go when you need them?

Well, sh*t. I don't have access to a printer here. Ah well. Fedex kinkos, some are 24/7. Or even a market like walmart?

Intern Fair
Should I get there right at 9 or can I roll in later? I live in Broward, so I'd like to avoid some traffic if possible. later and you might miss out on interviews for some stuff, the lines get long- time consuming wise. Be there at 8:45, if you can.

I did, too, but I just think it would be wise to have some on had so they can reference it immediately. You need copies for sure, they were actively seeking them out. Some liked the fact I had a cover letter, others were happy with the basic résumé, you can get away with 15 copies total, 7 with a cover letter. It'll help with the media ones.

I'll be with my homey Paul. But if we recognize each other, then sure! lol I'll be looking for the little mouth hidden in the big mouth then. Like predator. "I'm gonna eat ya'll" Little mouth, you get back up in there now! I'll get you when it's time! ZOOP! Anyhow, yeah, anything I should look for specifically? Avoid the tables that have three people interviewing one person, waste of time. Wait until the end to talk to them. Come prepared, obviously- and have an open mind. They don't seem too worried about what your degree is in, just if your capable of succeeding. And apply for what you like. I avoided finance. It's a chance to do something most would like to do, you might as well enjoy it. PM me if you have certain questions. Oh, I meant to find you. lol But thanks! I won't be there, unless I apply again under another alias. Have fun, and enjoy the views....

Ozzie, majority of coaches dismissed
So he's probably a contender for St. Claire's position, not Ozzie's. Really? I don't believe you are that dense, but most teams don't allow coaches to leave mid contract for lateral jobs other then the Jays. He's interviewing for Ozzies job, per plenty of sources everywhere.

New Manager Contest
Reply to this thread with your prediction of who will be named the next manager of the Marlins. Please only reply to this thread with your entries as to make it easier for me to go through when we hire a new manager. Jesus, You guys can't follow simple rules. The Ozzie fired thread is for most of the conversation here. Not to mention some of you are naming the most insane people possible. Really fregosi, dunwoody, booty?

im a fantasy football gm genius. or incredibly lucky. either one. i was offering lynch on julio jones for rice but instead only had to give up charles, who i didnt really like to begin with given how often his team gets blown out and abandons the run. i cant possibly lose 1 point again, can i? that just wouldnt be fair. up 3 with my opponent having michael bush and brandon marshall as the clock runs down. Oh the Irony..... A good GM makes moves, moves that get them 1 point wins- not losses. then im a good gm i guess considering i won by 3 But will you satisfy the masses like Brian Cashman or end up like Steve Phillips?

2012 World Series thread
Ooh that's nice. Since it'll just be this series, think you can update it after every game with the score and then the next game's starter and stats like this one? Hopefully 7 pics won't be too bad. [Or 14 if you end up doing the score picture-wise, too] I plan on keeping it two pictures, just updating the second one. You'll have a better idea of my plan tomorrow after game 1. Check your PM CRRaysHead

Ozzie, majority of coaches dismissed
Worst organization in sports, and it's not just because they fired a manager who had a bad season and made some bad publicity. It's just another chapter in manager failures, horrific trades, and other poor personnel decisions. If nobody can have success with what you are giving them to work with, at some point you have to wonder if the crap that you are giving them to work with is the bigger issue. The Florida Marlins, the team I grew up with, are dead, and in their place is a team I'd like to root for, but except for a new stadium that is extremely nice in person but ugly as hell on TV (which is where most of my Marlins viewing is done, considering I'm now 5 hours from the stadium) thanks to excessive lime green, I can hardly find something rooting for in. Maybe Mike Stanton, but that's only until we trade him for an entire minor league team (without any actual talent) or just give him up for nothing because we don't want to pay him anymore. I imagine this being everyone who's crying that Loria is horrible.

FIRE LORIA
Nintendo owns Seattle. the guy who owns Nintendo owns Seattle Source: http://sports.yahoo....-175857749.html "He'll be watching on TV," (Mariners CEO Howard) Lincoln said after a press conference at the Tokyo Dome Hotel. "Given all the years he's been involved with the Mariners, he's really looking forward to see the team play. He's very excited." How do you own something and never set your eyes on it. you hire capable employees and let them do their jobs and hope for the best Yeah, but to not ever watch the team play---- that's kind of sad.

FIRE LORIA
How does a team become publicly owned, anyway? Can't anymore, but it was kind of like War Bond's I'd imagine. As far as publicly owned in the sense the Fox Broadcasting owned the Dodgers at one point? They need to make money, and assign a board to run the team.
