  1. Billy Hamilton is a freak of nature. Definitely an anomaly but fair comparison given huge speed, low ability to get on base/power. The reason Billy was able to reach the majors is because he was revolutionary in his speed. Hell he had an OBP under .290 in 2015 and still stole nearly 60 bases. He was also able to consistently keep an OPS above .700 (and at his height the .900+) in the minors. Perez isn't near that. His minor league career is far, far less impressive than Hamilton's. It's also interesting that Perez only has 1 season where he was extraordinary in the SB category (2015), and it happens to be the season he got on base at a terrible rate. SB rate went from around 14% in 2015 to 12% in 2016. Not huge on the surface, but given the fact he improved his OBP by .050 I'd have to believe that the AA coaching staff told him to focus less on getting stolen bases and work on his plate discipline. Perez isn't a major league player as he currently is. Perez needs to have a Billy Hamilton 2011 type season (.700 OPS, high SB number) in AAA before he shows that he'd be deserving of a 25 man roster spot.
  2. I'm a big advocate for OBP. But the power numbers are ridiculously low, and the OBP isn't nearly high enough to make up for that. His OBP numbers aren't even good (he peaks around .334, which isn't good). He's roster filler. Again, barring a breakthrough he should be seen as nothing more. We should expect Perez to begin next season at AAA, not on the major league bench. He didn't light the world on fire in AA and hasn't hit at AAA yet. If he can't hit at AAA then he'll never hit anyway ever.
  3. Team needs power. Fowler is also coming off a career year, meaning he's going to get overpaid and not have a repeat season. If Ozuna gets traded, I'm still 100% behind Brandon Moss or Josh Reddick. They are much better fits for this team.
  4. He's never put up an .OPS over. 700 in the minors. He'll never be a starter barring an unforeseen breakthrough. He literally has less power than any Marlins outfielder that has ever played in the majors, and that includes Brett Carroll. Heavy no on him.
  5. If things go south next season they should certainly be looking towards retooling. I wouldn't be saying fire sale but there should be a greater emphasis on building and preserving the farm system. Now is a good time to try for an NL playoff spot because the second wild card adds some opportunity that we otherwise wouldn't have (we were in it until the last week and a half this season despite a ton of issues). 2017 should certainly be the last season that the core team is kept together. After that, any player that isn't considered a long term player (aka Stanton, Gordon, Realmuto, Yelich) should be made available in an effort to regain for a long term future run.
  6. With last year's production sure. I don't think we're all in agreement that guys like Realmuto, Ichiro, Bour, and Prado will perform as well as they did last season. That may become a wash if Stanton returns to form, but there were definitely overperforming players in our lineup last season.
  7. It's because I don't trust the current staff to turn potential like Bauer into legitimate numbers. Under a different system Bauer is worth a chance but he would be ruined here in my own opinion.
  8. Yep. Only 2 guys I think should be guaranteed rotation spots next year are Chen and Conley. I'm sure Koehler will get one but he shouldn't be guaranteed.
  9. It would be Ichiro starting everyday (most days) if Ozuna gets traded for pitching and we don't sign a free agent OF. Dietrich is also a trade piece to acquire starting pitching. The Ozuna talk in based on the fact he's the teams most valuable available trade piece, the team now desperately needs starting pitching, and they won't spend to pay for the top free agent pitchers. It is the most realistic option to improve the rotation.
  10. Defensive metrics have Ozuna mostly as a slightly above average defensive outfielder. If you want to see bad outfielders in Marlins history please go watch video of Chris Coghlan and Logan Morrison playing left field.
  11. None of this is about sabermetrics. It's common sense. And I watch the games. Many people who also like to keep even basic numbers in mind watch games as well. That doesn't make your opinion on this any less terrible.

    2016 Playoffs

What terrible defense by the Cubs fan. Hands down leaving his face completely exposed, and the knockout just shows that he has no chin to take a hit. Indians fan's technique was also pretty solid. Short, compact punch. Spread his legs to provide himself balance while leading with his front foot directed at his opponent. Didn't hold back on the swing and made nice contact. Only negative was he got himself off-balance at the end, holding back some power in the straight right that would've created maximum damage. All in all D- performance from the Cubs fan, B+ from the Indians fan.
  13. Based on .OPS Ozuna was one of the five best outfielders in the entire National League the first half of the season. That is better than Bryce Harper, Dexter Fowler, and even Giancarlo Stanton/Christian Yelich were to start the year. He was putting up incredible production and fell off due to inconsistency. That hurts his value, sure. But it doesn't take it any lower than it should be. Which is at the very least a legit #3 starter in the major leagues with #2 potential.
  14. But for real that comment just isn't right. He was a 5 WAR outfielder in '14 and around an .800 OPS guy this past year. He might not have top value but you're incredibly naive to say he has little to no value just because you don't like the way he plays.
  15. No. You're just wrong and I hate every opinion you've ever had.

    Westworld

Yeah I liked the show initially but it's taking far too long to disclose any information. That's a dangerous game to play because people are going to lose interest if you build the entire show on mystery. The action itself isn't entertaining enough to keep me waiting a full year to care about the backstory.
  17. Yeah don't get how people aren't getting the fact that Ozuna's value isn't a Salazar or Carrasco. We even asked for those two last offseason in an Ozuna trade and were told no. Despite an improved season this year Ozuna's value is still Trevor Bauer. Salazar/Carrasco are cornerstone pieces for the Indians and not being traded. You look at Bauer and there's legit potential there, just a ton of inconsistency. His month of June this year (2.01) was better than anything a Marlins pitcher has done this season other than Jose. It's clear that he's a legit top end starter talent who with the right coaching could be a star. That wouldn't happen in Miami, so I wouldn't want him in an Indians trade, but he has star potential for somebody.

    2016 Playoffs

That may have been the greatest game in baseball history. I am happy to say I watched it happen. Man that was incredible.
  19. Ha. I actually liked the Suns name. I'm not sure I can follow a team called the Jumbo Shrimp and be taken seriously.

    2016 Playoffs

After 108 years, it would only make sense for them to win when everybody discounts them. Oh, and that whole karma for every Cleveland fan making 3-1 jokes the entire NBA offseason.
  21. Stop acting like such a cuck you whiner. Grow a pair.
  22. Good point. I want my tasteless jokes to at least be accurate. Otherwise it's not even worth doing.
  23. As long as there isn't a jetty built in the road this should be fine.
