  1. Heaney was promoted to Low-A Greensboro on Wednesday evening, according to his Twitter. Good job outta him.
  2. He looked sharp after a shaky first. He allowed a bunt single to the first batter he faced, then a sharp single, had a HBP in the inning too. He ended up throwing 45 total pitches for the three innings, with 20 in that first inning. 30 of his pitches were for strikes and 15 for balls. Beinfest was there to watch his debut along with pitching coordinator Wayne "Rosie" Rosenthal and VP of player development Martin Scott. Thanks for the report. Nice of Beinfest, Rosenthal and Scott to attend. Hope this is the start of a Jose Fernandez type progression.
  3. Looks like Andrew had a pretty solid outing in his debut. 3IP, 4 H, 1ER (1R), 4 Ks, 0 BB. Left the game down 1-0 on the scoreboard. Seems like he had to shake off some nerves in the 1st where he gave up the lone run and 3 hits while also hitting a batter. fanofthefish, let us know how he looked out there when you're back. If you're on Twitter, give some congrats to Andrew via @heandog8.
  4. I'll be there! Enjoy it! I'm hoping to go to a GCL game when I'm back in FL in two weeks.
  5. JJ Cooper @jjcoop36 Not a big Zack Cox fan, but Marlins have gotten an upgrade going from Dominguez to Cox as their top 3B prospect Tweet from Baseball America writer/editor JJ Cooper.
  6. Just a heads up that our 2012 1st round pick Andrew Heaney is scheduled to make his rookie league debut for the GCL Marlins on Thursday on the road against the GCL Nationals.
  7. In more Zephyrs news, Brantly with a pinch hit walk-off 3-run HR vs. Iowa tonight. Since the trade, he's hitting .500 with 6 RBIs in 14 ABs.
  8. I really hope they let him work out any little issue he might have in AAA. Andrew Miller made me paranoid. Speaking of him....he's having a pretty nasty year this year As a reliever. In comparison to Chris Volstad, he's been remarkable. Gotta give him credit for accepting the role and doing well in it. Lotta guys in his position couldn't swallow their pride and take the demotion to the bullpen.
  9. Speaking of call-ups, I'd like to see Yelich move up to AA - hitting .321 currently I agree, but I'm also selfish and want him to stay in Jupiter until after I see him play at RDS in two weeks. Hoping I can line up a game where Fernandez starts and Yelich is in the lineup.
  10. Maybe I'm reacting to a poor start by Harrison in Texas, but after looking at their rotation, I can see Daniels giving in to our demands. Especially with Lewis out for 2012 and heading into free agency a year after they lost CJ Wilson. You just don't see that team doing as well as they have in previous 2nd halfs/post-season with Darvish and Holland essentially anchoring you. Obtaining JJ will allow them to avoid a bidding war over Grienke and even a guy like Anibal this winter when those are the only quality arms out there.
  11. I'm sure they'll at least let him get his bearings straight in a new league and with a new club before doing that. Brantly, on the other hand, is someone I'd like to see sooner rather than later. Buck and Hayes are abysmal at the plate.
  12. Turner's debut at home vs. Iowa Cubs: 5ip, 2h, 1r, 1er, 3bb, 2k. 88 pitches, 48 for strikes. Sidenote: Batting leadoff for Iowa is none other than Alfredo Amezaga;. 2 of Turner's 3 walks were drawn by Alfredo.
  13. First start for Anibal as a Tiger today. Fielded a slow roller to his right bare-handed and made the throw to first in a Gold Glove move to end the inning. Miggy rubbed his head as they went to the dugout. Oh, what could have been for the Marlins.
  14. Looks like you're right, thanks.
  15. Anyone know when Turner's debut with NO will be? Hoping they can keep him at AAA for most of the 2nd half to get him ready for 2013. Obviously, I'm paranoid after Andrew Miller was somewhat rushed up in 2009.
  16. I think a good haul for JJ should be comparable, if not much better, than what San Diego received in dealing Latos this off-season. Yes, Latos is under team control for a while, but the Reds still gave up two 1st round picks in Grandal and Alonso along with Volquez to get Latos, who only had a year or two of solid performances. I'm more on the side of keeping JJ so at least we have some optimistic outlook on 2013 to anchor our rotation. Let alone he'd be a good guy to extend this off-season if he shows he can stay healthy this full season.
  17. Skipworth with a monster game. Maybe he's finally feeling the pressure to produce with the Brantly acquisition. Had a nice stretch in mid-July and he's hitting .333 in his last 10. Still a small sample size, though.
  18. He's played a total of two games for Los Angeles. Let the sample size grow a little before we start reacting about his attributes. Personally, I'm rooting for him to turn it around and be the type of player that seemed destined for Cooperstown in 2008/2009. Of course I wish it was in South Florida, but his actions on and off the field finally caught up to him here.
  19. Hanley's agent Andy Mota was on MLB Network Radio today around 2pm EDT. Anyone hear what he had to say?
  20. Nice to see the Tigers fans chime in on the deal. It's obviously a risk for them with Anibal heading into free agency and being, according to FOX's Ken Rosenthal, the #3 pitcher on the open market this summer behind Grienke and Hamels. Rosenthal makes a good point in his piece (Found here) how Detroit has a few Venezuelan players with influence (Avila, Miggy among others), so that could entice Anibal to sign an extension. He is a Boras client so chances are, he'll test the market where he could jump ahead of Hamels and Grienke if either sign the extensions already offered to them. Here's to hoping The Franchise has some scenes this week with the negotiations between us and Detroit.
  21. Exactly. Him and Webb are and have been the 2 most untrustworthy guys we've had in the bullpen over the past 2 years simply because you can't count on them to throw strikes or come in with runners on and strand them on a consistent basis They are volatile. In retrospect, it's hard not to wonder if Frieri would have been available at the time for that Maybin deal.
  22. the part where he is unable to throw strikes? Coming into tonight: Since coming back in June, Dunn has done the following: 14.2 IP 7 H 2 R 8 K 8 BB (3 were intentional) I'll take 5 more "awful" pitchers like that. and in the bigger sample size of the past 2 years? Relief work is a "what have you done for me lately" kind of job. Lately Dunn has been money. I appreciate that. When the Infante/Dunn for Uggla trade went down, I heard "future closer stuff" with Dunn. That mixed with seeing how solid Venters and Kimbrel have been for ATL makes it tougher to give Dunn a thumbs up, but he's been good since June. He can be a good 7th/8th inning with Cishek, Bell and if Oviedo avoids Tommy John.
  23. I think this was a smart trade by an organization whose roster wasn't performing at the level expected once assembled. To trade an impending free-agent in Anibal, although one I'd love to have seen extended based on how solid he's been, and Infante for a top pitching prospect in Turner is quite the haul. I don't know enough about the catching prospect (former 3rd round pick), but with Buck, Hayes (a previous 2nd round pick) struggling offensively and Skipworth not figuring it out in the minors, it's wise to obtain one via trade. Losing the great defensive ability of Infante is tough, but we dealt with Uggla for so long, I think we can maintain with Solano/Boni. As for us being "obvious sellers," I think that may be somewhat of a reach. I've personally conceded the season after this past road trip. However, there's not much reason to make additional trades unless the haul is very significant. JJ still seems to be getting back in form after two consecutive seasons of ending up on the DL. Hanley wouldn't garner much value based on his previous seasons since 2009. If we go into 2013 with a rotation of JJ, Ricky, Mark, Turner and another arm, that's good for me. Obviously, this off-season now seems just as vital since 2B, 1B and the outfield could have some holes.
  24. Thanks for the report. I live in Brooklyn and was going to check out the Jammers play the Cyclones on Saturday. Any players you suggest I make myself aware of? I know they're one of the furthest from any call-ups/promotions, but would love to know. Thanks. Matt
  25. Kensing came in relief for Daniel Cabrera tonight vs the Cards. Inherited a man on first w/ one out. Let up a single to Pujols, walked Duncan to load the bases and gave up a sac fly to Ankiel before getting out of the inning.
