Kensing traded to Nats

Featured Replies

I know it was mentioned in the Kensing DFA thread, but might as well give it it's own.

The Marlins have traded Logan Kensing to the Nationals for minor-league pitcher Kyle Gunderson, a right-hander. Kensing was designated for assignment on Sunday.

The Marlins have assigned Gunderson to Single A Jupiter. The Nationals drafted Gunderson out of Rice University in the 48th round of the 2007 amateur draft.

I know Gunderson (nickname: Gundel?) is in Single A, so things can change, but what type of pitcher is he? Starter, reliever?

He's a reliever, and his career numbers so far look pretty good.

No they don't.

Then again, you can't expect to get much for Logan Kensing, at this point.

He's 24 and in A ball. That alone sets off flags.

Well, he's a college kid, so he was 23 when he started out in pro ball. 24 year olds in A-ball are typically nothing to write home about, but his numbers have been solid, so who knows. Just another arm in the stable which might be a 6-7th guy in the bullpen in things pan out. Nice to get something in return for Logan, though.

Really? Since when is a career 1.98 ERA and a .93 WHIP bad?

The Nationals are the new Mets with al the former Marlins.

I've got a good friend who lives around the Nats A team and knows a ton of the players. He says Gunderson is a good player and has potential to be up in the bigs with the right team this year. We'll see how it pans out.

Now that Steven Shell has selected free agency rather than staying in the Nationals organization (as if this should come as a surprise after Rizzo's comments) he might look good in NOLA as a part of a division leading organization and a good chance to make it back to the bigs.

What are your friends credentials? Not to sound mean, but I highly doubt he can be a big-league pitcher this year.

Agreed.

Olsen, Willingham, Kensing.

Who will be next to be deemed not good enough for the Fish and end up at the Natinals?

Let's see...Willingham is batting something like .130, only about 30 at bats so far this season, can't even find playing time. $2.95 million. Olsen's ERA is around 8. $2.8 million. Kensing. 9.50+ ERA.

I think we can live without them.

I wasn't suggesting at all that we should of kept any of them. Just find it quite amusing that the Nats scoop up all our "castaways" and will continue to suck.

I was agreeing with you.

might as well take a chance on him. macdougal of the white sox has also been released. wouldn't mind seeing him in AAA either as he's had some good seasons (05-06, 2008) and has closer experience with the royals.

It's not that impressive, when you consider his age & the level he's at.
