Fredi Gonzalez is really annoying
apparently fredi is unaware of that little 11-31 learning curve we went through in which i'm sure we made errors at a much greater pace than we did while we went 67-53. but in fredi's mind, it's perfectly fine that under his leadership they have regressed back to the shoddy defense they played in the early part of 2006. i know you can't really blame fredi for the defense because of the loss of such a great coach as perry hill, but it's fredi's loser mentality about everything that i can't stand. girardi is much more of a winner. and there's no learning curve from year 1 to year 2? how is Girardi more of a winner than Fredi?... that's utter BS (one way or the other) come on. you know it is not. how many world series did girardi win with the yankees? how many years was he a part of a winning organization with a winning attitude? how long did he study what to do in specific situations? there is absolutely no doubt girardi is more cerebral than fredi. i think swift said before how girardi went by the book and fredi goes by misguided guts; very good characterizations. from what has transpired thus far, it's safe to say that bobby cox didn't rub off on fredi too much. and i'm not saying joe girardi is the ultimate winning manager. i'm saying in his one season he proved that he is better than loser fredi gonzalez has shown. and polo's comment: "I think it has a lot to do with guys who are not gifted defensive players playing for a manager who hides his head in the sand when the poor play occurs" could not agree more with that that wasn't my point; the braves didn't rub off on fredi as much as the yankees did on girardi. Girardi spent one year as Bench coach for the Yankees. He spent four years with them as a player. Why does he have a "winning attitude" from spending like 20% of his career there and not a "losing attitude" from spending about half of his career witht he cubs and Rockies? And boy you really are harping on that "arrogant prick" thing, huh? Did I say that to you? I honestly don't remember... Either way, everytime you say something completely ridiculous like "Fredi has a losing attitude because Bobby Cox didn't rub off on him enough" you look more and more like one. oh man, you don't remember? awesome. that's so cool. it's real easy to be real tough hiding behind your internet connection and computer. and then you can just forget about it. sick. and each and every time you misquote me, you look more and more like an ignorant prick.

its immeasurable and girardi, the operations engineer from northwestern, is much smarter and better at managing to begin with. since when does a college degree come into play in coaching/managing? you like Joe over Fredi? great... but some of this reasoning is pure lunacy does intelligence come into it? being baseball smart has little to do with having a degree in operational engineering clearly. i don't disagree with that. but in anything it helps to be smart.

Fredi Gonzalez is really annoying
and i was half kidding, but intelligence comes into everything. and that doesn't hurt girardi at all.

Fredi Gonzalez is really annoying
well i don't think its that crazy. not that the organization rubs off on them but the winning ways and attitudes of the manager and clubhouse do. i'm sure both girardi and gonzalez learned a lot from the positions in which they were previously employed. i think its fair to say that the way torre and cox handled things and made decisions about things rubbed off on girardi and fredi respectively. even though girardi may not have been with the yankees long, they won 3 world series and he spent a year as a coach; i'm beyond convinced this contributed to his managerial style and decisions. as for fredi, the braves were perennial division winners and i think fredi learned a little bit in his short time there. the distinction i was making was that, based upon what we have seen from both so far in marlins uniforms, in their small sample sizes, girardi was better. and because he was so much better, imo, i was saying that bobby cox must not have rubbed off on fredi as much as i thought. i guess you can't really say that or make that comparison. its immeasurable and girardi, the operations engineer from northwestern, is much smarter and better at managing to begin with.

what does being a terrific or an awful player have to do with being a winning manager? Apparently, everything. "come on. you know it is not. how many world series did girardi win with the yankees? how many years was he a part of a winning organization with a winning attitude?" The answer to all these questions are 3 and 4. He won 3 world series and was part of a winnning organization with a winning attitude for 4 years. What the hell does that have to do with being a good manager? You brought it up, man. And learn to use the edit button, please. apparently everything? what does that mean? you said girardi wasn't a good player. fredi wasn't a good player, either. what's your point? what the hell does having a winning attitude have to do with managing??????????? a lot more than a guy's talents as a player, which you say is apparently everything, with no reasoning or support. and i know how to use the edit button. thanks. p.s. i just edited out the part where i called you an arrogant prick. no not really, i have a little too much intelligence to name call people i've never met over the internet

Hard to be much more of a winner than that. and it is for most mlb teams. the yankees aren't most teams.

and concerning the learning curve from year 1 to year 2. the team should still improve and not regress year to year. and regardless of that, i think its ridiculous and takes a lot of nerve from fredi to compare this season to last, including the 11-31 disaster we began with. it was a team of rookies last year, most who had never played in any of the major league stadiums, and were adjusting to major league life, let alone major league play. i know now it's a team of 2nd year players, but they have loads more experience (not that they have a lot, but much more than in 06). i think the learning curve would have been decreased if they had a better person to learn from (girardi), just imo.

Barry v. Costas
i like costas a lot but he and hbo should've better timed this piece. i'm sure they did it on purpose so that it will play throughout his quest until he gets 756. but they should've waited until after he did it or before he came this close. the situation is already bad enough. and the bottom line is that bud selig is a hypocrite and is more responsible than anyone for ruining the record books. costas had the chance to really put him on the hot seat and he didn't. and then we have to hear from windbag schilling. nobody else who juiced hit 756 home runs. and for that matter, bonds started doing it late in his career as opposed to someone like mcgwire, who did his whole career and still hit 200 less. but comparing the two of them is silly. mcgwire on roids is garbage compared to bonds' natural talent.

Will Barry break record on Friday?
the way our pitching going their know that record will be broking on friday that why their saving bond for marlins to broke record i do see it happen i love it. hope we win (obviously). don't care if it happens or not. could be cool though, maybe.

Possibly the worst series this year...
by far the worst series of the season. tuesday and wednesday's games were totally uncompetitive and last night you just knew that was going to happen. i had pretty much already given up after the last 4 days but seeing that we have to go 40-19 is just sad. but considering the injuries this team has had to deal with, our current record is still a wonder. we're getting through a season with half of our 2nd to lowest league payroll and none of our starters (that is not dontrelle willis out there) except mr. dui please move uggla down in the order. continues to prove he shouldn't be there. terrible double play. hermida, anybody there, need a change. fredi = meh

girardi >>> fredi yeah, girardi's a pompous a-hole, and who tells their boss to shut the f*** up? but he's a much better manager. everybody is a better game manager than fredi, and girardi proved that he's one of the best at motivating young players and keeping them crisp. and 11-31 -> 67-53 my other huge issue with fredi, as silly as this may seem (but i think it demonstrates his loser mentality), before a game recently with minervini he was asked about the team's defensive struggles. and fredi actually had the nerve to compare the numbers from 2006 and explain that they're basically on the same pace at this point in the year, if not a little better, from then --- apparently fredi is unaware of that little 11-31 learning curve we went through in which i'm sure we made errors at a much greater pace than we did while we went 67-53. but in fredi's mind, it's perfectly fine that under his leadership they have regressed back to the shoddy defense they played in the early part of 2006. i know you can't really blame fredi for the defense because of the loss of such a great coach as perry hill, but it's fredi's loser mentality about everything that i can't stand. girardi is much more of a winner.

Wouldn't this be something?
why does babe ruth have 715 phantom home runs? because they wouldn't let the superior blacks play? Something about an old walk-off rule. Say your team was down 6-7 in the bottom of the 9th, and you hit a grand slam. After the 2 runs would score, the game would be over and you'd be stranded on 2nd with a double, even though you hit it out. Ruth had something like that happen. The rule was later changed obviously. BACK ON TOPIC: So, if A-Rod hits one out in the remaining innings of that suspended game, technically, his 499th is really number 500? yes, if he hits one out during the resumption of the suspended game, it counts as if it happened back on the original day the game started and every home run since that game would be 1 later in his sequence
-
Wouldn't this be something?
i thought he was saying all of babe ruth's 715 were phantom home runs. don't know which 1 phantom hr your talking about. anyway, unimportant. even though a-rod is extremely annoying with all of his phoniness and being unclutch, etc, i still don't believe he gets nearly the amount of credit and awe he deserves considering whats hes doing at his age (how about that at bat by bk? i thought he was gonna charge the mound instead of taking 1st)

is that what you're saying? it seems pretty reasonable to me
