  1. never heard of this writer, Charles Elmore, but he's obviously a genius: "Loria gave Gonzalez an enthusiastic endorsement when talking to reporters on the team's road trip in San Francisco. "Fredi has been terrific," Loria said. "Everybody will agree with that. Good judgment. Straight-forward guy. His energy and his honesty and the way he handles his players. He does a great job. He gets a tremendous amount of respect from everybody in the organization." Wonderful. But the jury still is very much out on Gonzalez. He sticks rigorously with tactical decisions as if he were managing Bobby Cox's Braves in Atlanta, where Gonzalez was a longtime third-base coach. Problem is, he doesn't have that team here. For example, Gonzalez backed disastrous reliever Jorge Julio far too long. And why not hit, say, Alfredo Amezaga (.270) second in the order and bump Dan Uggla (.255) to sixth? Say this about Gonzalez: He didn't complain when the trade deadline passed without any action. Girardi privately did speak up last year. Gonzalez deflected trade questions Tuesday, saying he heard the usual talk about deals involving the team's best players. "The bad players never have rumors," Gonzalez said. Then he quickly turned over questions to Beinfest. Gonzalez may have demonstrated to Marlins ownership he is easier to get along with, but he has not proved to fans he is a better manager than Girardi. And that means in one year, the Marlins have not improved. They have not given their fans added reason to watch the team in the final two months of the season, despite the fact the Marlins have two of the five best offensive players in baseball, Hanley Ramirez and Miguel Cabrera. Their rivals got better. The Marlins are doing a little worse than standing still."
  2. he's been awesome and he should've been traded. but if beinfest could've made a lopsided trade for him, i'm sure he would have. miller should be the setup man.
  3. I'd like to know why Fredi Gonzalez said he's happy with the way the team's been performing before the game. I second that. Especially after that road trip. I can only speak for myself and those with whom I watch the games, but the past week has been painful and depressing. Especially getting swept in Arizona. Especially that last game. And this is as a fan. I know his perspective is different, but those are (or should be for him) heartbreaking losses. And as we continue to give up ground in a winnable division, you can only make yourself so happy about your 1-3 hitters. c'mon, fredi doesn't sweat the small stuff.
  4. The only thing I can say I prefered about Girardi was that he had no issues setting high goals for the team. He said from day one what would constitute a successful season, and it wasn't developing for next year, winning a batting title, or setting a club record for HRs and Runs Scored. He said it was to win the World Series, and I really don't think Fredi sees it that way, nor does he present that to the team. And while in a lot of ways I understand not looking at that as a realistic goal for the team, it really should be. The Mets haven't run away with the division like last season, we have a powerful (if relatively inconsistent) offense and a solid bullpen. Yes we have SP issues, that in part, I think grow out of our poor defense. At the very least we know D-Train is capable of better. Whether or not you think 05 was the "real" Dontrelle, the fact that it happened proved that it can happen. Mostly I think though an attitude of the team's record not mattering leads to crap like we saw in today's game: Hanley just slowing down and stopping to watch a ground ball go right past him into LF (in the 1st I think). I get the fact that his shoulder is hurt, and I'm not asking him to dive on it, but a tleast run at the thing and reach down with your glove. And do we even need to discuss Hermida. Someone needs to get it through to him that he is not that good defensively and that on defense, in the 1st inning, he should not be taking stupid risks diving for a ball he isn't sure he can reach. he turned a single into a triple with that move, which led to us giving up the go ahead run, and the team never recovered. And I think it's naive to think that giving up a run like that in the 1st inning doesn't affect how the team plays. the reason that he tried to dive for it was because it was in the 1st inning and its early in the game so you can afford to give up an extra base hit if you mess up. but this is hermida we're talking about, and he's always gonna mess up, so it bothers that he tries to make gold glove plays that he clearly cannot and won't for a long time. the biggest concern i have though is that i'm really not sure if fredi is good at or even tries at all to make the players understand that those types of things just have to unacceptable.
  5. did anyone read Keith Law's review of this deal on ESPN.com? He's the worst baseball writer I've seen. yeah, i just read it. he's way too harsh on castillo. calls him only a slap hitter, says he has no range at 2b among other things. never mentions his .294 career avg, that he wins gold gloves. normally keith law seemed alright to me, smarter than retards like steve phillips, but after reading that, i think he's an idiot.
  6. couldn't hurt to unload one of the 1st round loser busts we possess. and borchard is probably the worst.
  7. Just a boring sh*tty game where one hit beat us and so did 3 double plays...Olsen continues to stink and our sad freefall continues. August starts tomorrow with exactly two months left so we will need some seriously good basbeall to make a run at it. "make a run at it" :lol :lol :lol :lol yeah, seriously. come on man. just sit back, chill, and enjoy hanley, miggy and watching the rest develop. it ain't happening so fast. :hat :hat :hat :hat :hat :hat :hat :hat :hat
  8. this team has major problems playing in front of nobody. it's no wonder why this team performs so much better on the road in general. at the start of the game i think there were 800 people in the stands. another day, another blunder for hermida. seriously how many of those plays has he made this year without having an error charged? i understand that it's a base it but if you turn it into a triple by making a silly attempt to slide, you should get an error. "General manager Admin Beinfest told reporters later on Tuesday that Hermida's slow start -- including his seven errors in right field -- are to be expected from a 23-year-old. "He's a young player having some young-player struggles," Beinfest said. "But we're very optimistic about him." - marlins.com and btw, the gm god speaking above, wore a light green mint colored shirt tonight
  9. Festa, I had passed on your e-mail to our clubhouse for consideration. Thank you for taking the time to write. As you know, history will have to wait for another day! Regards, David Samson Marlins wore gray on Friday and Saturday, FWIW. wow, that's nice. from the tiny ironman idiot himself.
  10. sox are loaded. yankees are going down.
  11. just announced on espn, looking for article...
  12. Isn't Dontrelle just 25 years old with his best years ahead of him? Isn't he the heart and fist-pumping soul of this team, its natural leader? Isn't he the most fun player to watch, one of the few players in the major leagues that you WANT to do well because he is exerting maximum effort for your team? Isn't he the same player that reinvigorated the 2003 team and led to the happiest sports memories that anyone on this board has EVER had? Everyone, take a deep breath and relax. Dontrelle is not regressing every year; he has been largely inconsistent from year to year. He hasn't even hit his prime yet and people are already set to see him retire. He will have better years than the last two in front of him. Frankly, he should mean more both in terms of emotional attachment and in terms of 2008 potential to all of the people on this board than the constant "ditch Dontrelle" posts have shown him. Relax. He is going to be with us next year at a relatively low price; if he doesnt make our team contend again and we aren't in a position to sign him next year, he could be traded. Now is not the time for doom and gloom and to throw away those d-train rookie cards. Dontrelle is a Marlin. In five years he won't be. You will tell your kids about Dontrelle. Conclusion: Enjoy him now. As much as like 18 year old prospects that could be/should be/may be pretty good in 2-4, I'm willing to enjoy Dontrelle now. He's had a bad season. He is not a bad pitcher. I'm not asking for blind faith, just measured faith with an eye for premium returns from a premium player. :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy well done
  13. 7 players for KG (5 current and 2 1st rounders)? that's a steal for an mvp, no doubt hof. the c's could be nasty now. i see pierce taking on a jason kidd sort of role. maybe not the pg all the time but definitely the offensive facilitator. i think ray allen go wild with the freedom he'll have as the 3rd best player on the court; that's crazy. but doc rivers and danny ainge are huge stumbling blocks to overcome. it'll be interesting to watch.
  14. this guy is so f**ked its ludicrous. he is the most hated man in america right now. he would've been so much better off raping somebody or even being at the scene of a murder. hell, ray lewis took his misdemeanor obstruction of justice and won sb mvp. didn't vick know dogs are "man's best friend." he did things that are incomprehensible for one living thing to do to any other. i hope he gets way way more than 6 years.

so funny :devil :devil :devil :devil :devil :devil
  18. Kevin Garnett, ive always looked at him with a frown because this guy is going to be a first ballot hall of famer and he was wasting his career, wasting all those years with the t-wolves having to do it all himself. If he wasnt on they wouldnt be on. So this move really makes me happy because he is going to a team that i like very very much and hes got a great shot at getting a ring now. Top 7 active scorers without a ring: 3. Garnett 5. Allen 7. Pierce i like that 3-5-7 number form. that's really interesting. maybe they'll pull it together.
  19. truly a legend, visionary. west coast offense. scripting the 1st 15 offensive plays of the game. discovered jerry rice. much more. rip.
  20. They still haven't found the bodies after game 7 of the NLCS. :lol :lol :lol :lol :hat :hat :hat :hat :hat :cool :cool :cool :cool keep it coming
  21. is it certain that the marlins are in the wrong? i thought he only first complained of any pain after they sent him down.
  22. I really hope this happens, then. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
  23. keep d-train. get rid of olivo and maybe one or two of the relief pitchers we currently have that we could sell very high
  24. typical mets fan :lol :lol :banghead :banghead :lol :banghead :banghead :lol :banghead :banghead :lol :banghead
