If anyone has any doubts on whether or not he should be our closer... RAB that was a pimp little segment!!!!

Not sure why everyone always wants Lindstrom as closer. Yeah, he throws hard, but he has ONE PITCH. And his fastball has no movement on it. It's just a straight fastball. Any professional hitter can hit a straight fastball. If he is going to be a successful closer, he at least has to develop a pitch to complement his fastball. Lindstrom has 2 off-speed pitches that he can throw but has lost all confidence in them. He has a slider and a split-change. Mark Wiley is abig reason he doesn't throw them because he (Mark Wiley) doesn't want to see him get beat on his second best pitch (off-speed stuf). He's had success locating the fastball and when he gets confidence in the off-speed he should be pretty good.

They are going to bury Henry Owens because he's cost them too much money being hurt. Like I've said before, his injury has taken longer to heal than Tommy John surgery. My guess is that he gets healthy and the Marlins bury him imo. Bury him why, out of spite? No it's not out of spite but, they do like players actually trying to get back to help out. He had a little tear in his shoulder it's not like it was reconstructive. It's taken him a season and a half to get back?

Joe Nelson! He has easily been the most dominant guy in the pen this year. An ERA under 2 with a K/9 above 10! I bet if he were closing all this year, the Marlins would be in 1st right now. Joe Nelson is a great set-up guy. As RAB said he is terrible with inherited runners. He did a great job tonight striking out Wright.

Rab I'll take the 2nd pitcher. Did you hear that Puerto Rico is going to have a winter ball and I heard Lindy is going to go over there for a month. 2 years ago going into his rookie season he wouldn't of made the team if he didn't do the winter ball. He found and could throw the slider in any count, plus he developed that split-change and threw it for strikes last year. He lost confidence in those two off speed pitches because Wiley told him not to get beat on his worse pitch. He throws hard and can locate the fastball, but you and I know unless you are Mariano Rivera you can't just have one pitch.

...is that Gregg blowing saves decreases his trade value. I was kinda hoping he'd get to (at least) 35 saves, and that Jacobs would get to 30-35 HR's before season's end. What positions do you think we need to concentrate on for next year Erik?

Another option could turn out being...Henry Owens. When is he coming back? Any updates on him? Been a long time, since I heard one. When Julio left, and before Gregg took over the role last year...Owens was actually the closer...before going on the DL. So I'm sure he'd be an option, if healthy. Could be but I heard a rumor that they are going to bury him. He had a shoulder problem like 1 1/2 months into last season and has been on the DL ever since. Pichers who have tommy john surgery come back faster than that bumb. He will get healthy; the marlins will make sure that he is and then in my opinion he is gone. He is on the 40 man roster and is still making the big league minimum because he was hurt on the active roster. I'll bet Loria is pissed.

How about Tucker making it to the big leagues and staying for a season before you throw him to the lions den. Lindstrom should be the closer. His offseason plans are to go to Puerto Rico and find-then locate the off-spead pitch. He will be dominant next year guarantee. Most of his (Tucker's) struggles came as a starter. He was never really given a shot, as a reliever. And it's a huge difference...especially when you only have 2 pitches (as Tucker does). Erik you make a good point. I believe a relievers role is very challenging especially as a closer. The players who face the closer are concentrating more than they have all game. The intensity has built all game long so you are facing the best a hitters got. I too am excited for the September call ups and I wouldn't be opposed to see some of the young kids come in there and add new life. This will be good experience for all of them. Whoever the closer is next year, it's safe to say that it won't be Kevin. He is probably done now. not to be obnoxious and bratty but ive been a closer in crods bigger then the 10,000 that gregg has to pitch in and yea there is adranilne and intensity but if you use that to yourr advantage you feel untouchable i mean he gets 2 freakin outs the he gives 2 hits and hits a guy then the Grandslam you cant change the way you pitch after 1 or 2 hits he has to throw the fastball low and not use the splitter at all because its the worst pitch ever ive ever seen I have no argument. I wish they would have let Lindy pitch the 9th and if he got in trouble then you bring Gregg in. This was a terrible, terrible, heartwrenching loss.

He played for Ponce like two years ago. He blames that he did so well his rookie season because he went and played a month out there. He just has to find that off speed pitch and throw it with confidence.

This is just my own personal opinion but I think Fredi would be a better manager if he managed a team with a huge payroll. Why? Because he doesn't dare to light fires in players, he's more concerned with putting them out (or being positive). Usually guys with big payrolls have big heads. From what I've seen in the last month (i.e. the dodgers telling Manny to cut his hair. Has he cut it? No. Do you think Joe Torre has addressed it? Probably, but he sure hasn't seen to it that it got cut) managers are scared of players (except Ozzie Guillen and a few others) and we don't know how much the front office has to do with it either. Joe Giradi wouldn't put up with a lot of what Fredi puts up with. Joe got all over players when he coached, however, that has changed in New York. Why? Because in my opinion he is scared of the big time players and I'll bet the FO has something to do with it as well. Fredi doesn't like confrontation so send him to New York. Let Giradi come back and lay into a few of these players and coaches. With the talent we have we'll be good. This is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt. All in all he does a great job with what he has to work with, I'd just like to see him be a little bit more stern.

JJ was in cruise control mode tonight - a really great job of pitching Proved all the doubters wrong who thought he had no chance of returning from that injury in just 11 months And with a win tomorrow, it would result in a winning road trip - which seems absurd when u think of how things have went Amen. That's weird to think but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we will start the consecutive winning streak.

Hurry, everyone panick because the Marlins just won a game. Nice job by the pitching and the offense. When they play together they are a good ball club, there just needs to be consistnecy. Tomorrow we start the winning streak and inch closer to the post-season!

I don't know if this will ease anybodys minds but the Mets have a tough rode ahead of them. Hopefully they will lose to the Phillies tonight and then lose again tomorrow. They then face us for 3 games, Milwakee 3 games, Phillies 3 games, Washington and Atlanta for 2 weeks (they won't win all of those games), the cubs for 4 games, and then finish up with us. We need to start winning tomorrow and then go on a winning streak. Hopefully this is the last bad game played. They will tighten it up and when they start playing with good pitching, (good hitting was displayed tonight), and the bullpen snaps out of it, I am betting we will make a push. Relax and think positively-if not next year does look good, however, this year is not over. The Mets have 29 games left, 15 of those 29 are at Shea. 12 of those 29 are against the Braves and the Nationals (both of whom will surely just bend over and spread 'em). Their "toughest" competition in their upcomming schedule is the Cubs for 4 games 7 days before the end of the season. The Cubs will probably have their playoff spot locked by then, and will be resting starters, and not really give a sh*t if they win or lose. We have 30 games left, 15 at home. 5 more vs. Atlanta who we are 4-6 against 6 vs. the Mets who we are 5-7 against 3 vs. the Cards, 1-3 6 vs. the Phils, who we have a winning record against so far this year, 7-5 6 vs. the Nats, who we are 10-2 against but that's because they are the Nats 3 vs. the Astros, 1-2 1 vs. the Reds, 2-5 Also, that make-up game against the Reds is set for 9/22, which means we lose an off-day, so now our last day off is 9/15 and we will play 13 in a row (last 7 on the road) to end the season. As I gaze into my crystal ball, I see diarrhea. What you saw in your crystal ball was the mets bullpen, they have soiled their pants all year long. With that being said, if they ever have to turn it over to the bullpen they have a very good chance to lose. Unfortunately, this is the case right now with ours except the guys in our bullpen aren't hurt (maybe mentally). I wouldn't rule us out just yet, the Mets blew it with a 7 game lead last year. We just have to start winning.

Would any team be dangerous if all the facets of their game were working? You would think since good pitching, good hitting, and good defense will beat average pitching, hitting, and defense. I just want to see it all work together in the last month for the Marlins. If it does, then I think we can make a run. The Mets blew a 7 game lead last year with less games to play. The entire bullpen was horrible. How about two walks with the bases loaded in the 8th? How about Jeremy Hermida gives a crap and gets the ball in faster. We may as well keep Gonzo out there if he's gonna play like a friggin panzy. I was waiting for someone to mention the walks in the 8th. IMO Lindstrom should have never come in in the 8th inning. Right from the start you could tell he wasn't locating very well and the umpire was squeezing everyone (ask Scott Olsen). This is not typical of him, he usually throws strikes. Aurthur did a nice job until he walked in a run and there was no blaming the umpire with Joe Nelson, he missed bad on 4 of his pitches! A colossal meltdown of the bullpen and it started in the 8th inning!

Lindstrom finished the inning strong bring in Joe Nelson for the right handers and finish it with Aurthur Rhodes. This was a terrible decision when the whole bullpen is fresh from either having not pitched or from the day off. Also, I was watching the game and there were a lot of close pitches that the umpire missed. If a pitcher doesn't get the corners, they are simply throwing batting practice. Gregg had Francouer struck out with a pitch right down the middle in the ninth. What a terrible collapse, we should have won this game by 5 runs. :banghead Offense did well. I wish all facets of our team (offense, defense, and pitching) would work together-we'd be dangerous! Hanley damn you!!! Gregg also had a high strike call go his way against Blanco. Don't blame the ump that's sour grapes. Blame the little league defensive lapses in the 9th and of course the best oponents closer in baseball. I will blame the defensive lapses, we made a ton of them and I will blame the umpire for not being better. He gets paid a lot of money to have sucky eye sight. If he calls the easiest pitch to call (a pitch down the middle belt high) a strike on Francouer then that grounder to Dan Uggla is the third out and we win. No question we lost the game because we had the run support, but damn the umpire for being inconsistent and terrible at the major league level.
