What positions do you think we need to concentrate on for next year Erik? Not much, really. 1. Bullpen's depend on how lucky you get with them. Just look at the Phillies & Rays, for example. Things can easily change with guys from the pen, from one year to the next...especially when you have guys like Lindstrom, Kensing, and Tucker who have good stuff...as well as Pinto who should still be counted on next year. 2. The SP, imo...Nolasco, JJ, Volstad, Miller, Anibal. And I like 'em, in that order. I believe that will be the starting rotation next year, and I think it's as good as any team. 3. Position players: You have the option of putting Cantu at 1B, and letting McPherson / Coghlan battle it out at 3B, in Spring Training...or Cantu at 3B, with Gaby Sanchez getting the nod at 1B, until Logan Morrison is ready, in a couple years. As far as the OF, Hermida in RF, with Maybin in CF. LF...is a question mark. But the team has plenty of options, imo (Hammer, Ross, Raynor). As far as biggest need...catcher. I'd love to see Loria spend some money for Pudge Rodriguez, again. I, truly, believe this team isn't far from contention. As long as you have a player to build around, and a strong starting 5, you always have a chance, imo. Especially as they continue to develop and mature more.
August 30, 200817 yr Actually there are a lot of things that suck tonight besides Gregg lowering his trade value. One thing I was was saying here at the home is how demoralizing this must be to the starting pitchers. From here on out, they'll basically go into every game expecting to get a no decision. To see great games wasted by this waste of a bullpen. I can't wait to read some the boring prepared lines this team spews after this game.
August 30, 200817 yr Biggest offseason needs are in the bullpen. They also need to start restocking the minors with pitching talent. Most of our best talent is already in the majors. Looking a tad thin down there. And we know the front office doesn't keep pitchers around too long.

And obviously, Lo Duca / Treanor are not the answer, either. We need a catcher next year. I'm more worried about that. Adding bullpen pieces isn't tough. We have some guys from within, and the organization has plenty of players they can use as trade bait. Relievers rise and fall every year (unless if they're really great). It all depends how fortunate you get with them (examples: Joe Nelson, Doug Waechter...Kevin Gregg last year, as well).

I'm not too thrilled about Baker, defensively. I'm also not ready to say he's a starter, either. Just not thrilled at the idea. For what it's worth, he hit lefties very well in AAA, this year, so I'm not even sure about the whole platoon thing, if that's the case.

August 30, 200817 yr I may be in the minority, I like Baker. I also like Bake. I don't think he's going to be a big name catcher but I also don't think that C is the hole that it once was.
