I think it looks great, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. I am still not exactly sure what we will get for our homerun pop-up. Samson said the other day on the telecast to Tommy & Rich that it will be an artsy-fartsy thing. Oh dear God ! :blink:

I usually get over it... but the Marlins commentators dont blatanly disrespect ANY of our opponents like that. Thats just unprofessional to me. I agree. I listen to all the announcing crews at one time or another, and many of them multiple times a year because I have MLB Extra Innings and MLB.TV. Our guys, along with the guys from the Diamondbacks and Seattle's Dave Niehaus are the most even keeled and nicest announcers that I hear. Tommy & Rich never, ever diss other teams & players like I hear from other announcing crews around the dial. Hell so far only one crew, that of the Mets on opening day, has even mentioned we have a new stadium opening in 2012. In one game the guys even debated when will the Marlins new stadium be voted on by the public, and as they said "if they can even motivate anyone to go to the polls down here". The Marlins should be pro-active IMO in getting the opposing TV & radio crews down to the new stadium construction, in order to get some pub about it.

Oh well tonight was one that got away. Tomorrow is another chance. We'll win, its not the end of the world brother.

I swear all these guys are just bitter that we eliminated these bitches in the 1997 and 2003 playoffs. Ohh I might add we also no hit them. I live in the bay area so I was watching the Giants pregame and this is exactly what one of them said. He said "It's going to be really hard for the Giants to go from AT&T park to play the Marlins at whatever their stadium is called to play in front of a measly 3000 fans. On top of that, the Giants players can hear everything that the fans say so if someone is talking sh*t, the Giants player might take it to heart." Ok first of all, get your f***ing facts straight. 3000 fans??? When was the last time that happened, if ever? Then in the next sentence, he said it was 2,000 fans a game. I mean there's a difference between being sarcastic and just straight sh*t talking. I've never had respect for any of the Giants announcers. These guys are just egotistical bastards that have nothing better to do than rat on a team that has had more success in their brief history than the Giants have had in like 80 years. I hope we demolish these pieces of sh*t and hopefully meet them in the playoffs and show em what real baseball is all about. Yeah I watched their pre-game too and found it very self-serving and very demeaning to the Marlins. They have no respect for our players either, except for Hanley.

Pretty sure he meant that the name would be switched to "Miami" from "Florida" and nothing else. I don't like the idea of the changing the colors but changing the logo is the last straw. I know he hates Huizenga but this is too far. Can we get a petition started including a boycott threat to get the logo kept the same? Boycott ? I will be very disappointed if they let Fredi go, who will then terrorize us with the Braves for years and years. It doesn't matter, he's leaving us after this year no matter what for the Atlanta job.

It may happen sooner than that if they fall 6 or 7 games out of even 4th place. They now have to win the next two or lose their fourth series in a row. I don't believe that happened once last year. I could be wrong but it seemed that we were more consistant last year. Do the guys look enthused at all ? I just don't see the chemistry I used to see in the clubhouse. The smiling, the joking around, the cutting up. They look dour and sullen most of the time. Even when losing these guys used to still have some fun out there. Has the pressure from Loria's preseason statement of "I expect to make the playoffs" hanging like a cloud over them ? I guess no one here can really answer these questions but maybe others here can see if they observe the same things. Ummm...relax? Check the standings lately? I think the team is just what the record says, probably a little above average. After all, this is mostly the same team as last year I disagree. Many (most) of the team's players are headed into their primes. We should expect their performance to improve. I think they are in their prime, its just that they aren't that special. Tampa Bay has special players, we have decent players. I can't believe other people on the board can't see that. Its especially evident with our pitching. Its Johnson and everyone else. A team can't make the playoffs with one special pitcher, and perhaps one special infielder (Hanley) you need more than that, and frankly I'd love to hear someone make an argument that there is another "special" player on the team. I would regard Ricky Nolasco in this "special" bracket you talk of based on the fact that his arsenal of pitches is "special". Striking out 16 in 1 game, including 9 in a row is "special". Of course he does have some bad days and last year his ERA was not what we wanted, however he is an excellent pitcher. Who would you regard to be special on the Rays team? Longoria yes, Crawford, I would give you that. But who else? David Price should be in that category in a year or 2 (started this season really well) but not quite yet. They have a lot of decent players like Shields, Garza, Zobrist, Upton but they are not "special". Did those guys win a division with both the Yankees & Red Sox in it, and make the World Series ? What is their record vs the Marlins the last 3 years ? That's what I mean by special. If any one argues they aren't better than the Marlins right now, they're just ignoring facts. If the Marlins are to continue to rely primarily on the draft to collect talent, they just have to a better job scouting and drafting. They can't continue to miss on 1st round picks, and then trade special talent to the likes of Andrew Miller & Cameron Maybin. If you do, then you condemn your franchise to becoming like the LA Clippers - perinnial cellar dwellers like the Pirates & Orioles.

If the Marlins are going to fire Fredi Gonzalez, they should probably be prepared to accept the fact that they might not get Bobby Valentine. The Orioles will probably fire Trembley soon and I wouldn't be surprised if they hire someone like Valentine. Good, I really hate that guy on Baseball Tonight. Am I the only one who misses Steve Phillips? I know he put his tools in the wrong shed, but come on... I thought he was great. I miss him too, he was the best analyst outside of Gammons. ESPN losing Gammons really makes it bleak on ESPN now. Olney and Turkejim (or however his name is spelled) are not near Gammons IMO.

I believe it is, this is 3 series losses in a row. That is a troubling sign for later in the year. We lose the next series to the Nationals and we could be in 5th the rest of the year. The NL East is definitely going to be tougher this year, but it really is too early to see how this all goes. Sure, the Nationals are playing much better this year so far, but will they keep it up? Are they going to move from becoming a 59-103 team to a 81-81 team? I don't think so, but they are definitely going to be better. Then you have the Mets. They're on a hot streak right now since bringing Ike Davis (I believe is his name) up and doing their thing. They were 70-92 last year and you'd think they would be better as well. The Braves are on a cold streak right now, but we know that they're a lot better then they've been playing. How does this all play out? Well... if the 3-4-5 starters continue to struggle, the bullpen continues to struggle and we don't have near the same Coghlan as we did last year.... we could find ourselves really close in the standings with the Mets and Nationals. I'd like to believe we're better then that and, in my opinion, I've seen some good stuff from Volstad and Sanchez, but they just lack the consistency that they need to be more effective. Fredi will be gone if the FO feels like a change needs to be made. He is already on thin ice with Loria and we know Loria would not hesitate to clean house in the middle of a season (2003). Not really sure what player changes they would implement. As pointed out, save for last night, offense hasn't really been a big albatross. Pitching is coming around a bit, but the Marlins can't afford for the rotation past JJ (if he has finally found his groove) and Nolasco to just pitch to their spot in the rotation. That is, we can't have the number 3 guy pitch as if he is just barely a number 3 guy, the 4 guys can't pitch as if he is barely a 4 guy, etc. We need them to play a little above their heads, so when they have their struggles, it is obvious that they are having an off night and are not that sorta pitcher. Right now, Robinson, Volstad and Sanchez have shown some flashes of being above average pitchers, but they also have struggled. So basically, we need to see consistency from our SP. Even JJ. We are almost a month into the season and especially by May, it should be clear what or who the Marlins are playing with. I agree with most of what you say. The SP needs to get good starts and more than 5-6 innings. We need 7 innings at least once every rotation, or the already bad bullpen will then also start to show fatigue later in the year, come June. Then things could really fall apart. I think we can see it starting to happen.

Loria said he "expects" to be in the playoffs this year. If we are 7 or 8 games out of 1st and in 4th or 5th come Memorial Day how will the FO deal with this ?
