  1. We need a 3B? Maybe, but I figure we'll probably have Morrison play 1st in 2011 and have Sanchez switch to 3rd, which is more of his natural position. Or you can have Dominguez and Sanchez compete for the job, although I'm not sure Dominguez is MLB ready. You obviously never saw Gaby play 3rd at the U of Miami. It was an adventure every night !
  2. MLB will piss all over Loria if he were to trade Uggle, or Cantu, or Ross, or a combo or just all three of them by the trade deadline this year. MLB made Loria spend money. IF the team is in contention of the playoffs by then and he still trades either of them, he is gonna get a earful. He has said himself this team can win. Unless if he can get a pretty good MLB starting pitcher in a trade for either of them. Like if he pulled off a blockbuster that made the starting pitcher better. That I wouldn't mind. Like let's say...KC was willing to trade Grienke...for Uggla and Ross...that be hard to resist. IMHO. But I don't believe this team will be in contention. The flaws are too glaring, even Stanton can't cover up the messy bullpen we have. We've lost at least 3 games so far due to the BP. That turns into about 10-12 games at least by the All-Star break. That is when teams start to get serious about trades, and unless we have a complete turnaround offensively, it will be too late by then, and we could be at least 6-10 games below .500 by then. That means we are sellers and not buyers for this year.
  3. honestly can you really doubt our front office at this point? This may have been a miss, but this happens when you trade proven talent for prospects. Honestly this front office has 2 World Series rings, how many other front offices can claim that?(Yankees, Red Sox, and Marlins (What is different than the others)) This FO has one ring. Yep, and even though it's cheap, the FO still fields a team that either comes close to .500 or over .500, like the last two years. And a new stadium and ugly uniforms to go with it and the name change. But if...Stanton flops, they are in mucho trouble in the future, or they must hope their drafting fortunes & Latino FA signings get luckier. They haven't signed a decent Latino FA since Miggy that I am aware of. We know this, for financial reasons, they must get rid of two of three starters this year by the July 31st deadline (Ross, Uggla and Cantu) at the least, if not all three. What they get back from those trades will determine how much money Loria will have to spend if he wants a winning team in the new stadium. If we get some decent prospects the necessity to spend big in FA for 2012 won't be there. He will know that by 2013 or 2014 the trades will pay off, and those teams will keep the crowds coming to the new stadium. If we get zilcho or next to nothing then Loria will either spend a lot to field a team for the new stadium or look like the biggest jerk in Miami sports history. If he has a new stadium and doesn't appear to be putting a winning team on the field, the local press will kill him, and an already distrustful public will have their suspicions seemingly confirmed - that they believe he will never spend to win, and anyone that we get that is any good will be traded away. Even if he keeps Hanley and Johnson (which I am not ever sure is a safe bet with Loria) the public will see the trades of Cody, Cantu and especially Uggla as a sign Loria will never be a good owner. He is in a tough conundrum with this problem already - he is spending way more money than he wants too, yet if he trades them the public backlash and outcry of "FIRESALE" in not only the local but national media will be a cacophony of outrage. But its a problem he created for himself when he CHOSE to run his franchise this way. He had other options, not great ones, but he did have them. So I don't feel in the least sorry for him. Of course the "he's a troll" posts will be after this, but anyone with a modicrum of brainpower will understand what I have said and will have to admit that this time its not trolling but truth-telling.
  4. honestly can you really doubt our front office at this point? This may have been a miss, but this happens when you trade proven talent for prospects. Honestly this front office has 2 World Series rings, how many other front offices can claim that?(Yankees, Red Sox, and Marlins (What is different than the others)) This FO has one ring. and that was with players mostly aquired by the previous FO. They got Pierre, Urbina, Miggy and Dontrelle. But since that trade, other than Stanton, the record is so-so at best and pathetic compared to what the Rays FO has done.
  5. This thread is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, Uggla and Ross could be traded. Now? No way. We have so much left of the season to play. If we were on a 10 game losing streak, not staying competitive, this topic could be discussed. We lost two games by a thread against two great pitchers right now. We had chances. Leo was one out away from closing the door. Wes was one hit away from winning/tying the ballgame. BTW, stop with the IF these players would've turned out, etc, etc. I'm tired of it. Beinfest has made his mistakes but has made so good decisions too. Maybin and Miller were top prospects. We are lucky at all that we got as much as we did for a player that we wouldn't have been able to sign anyway. Stop the Insanity. It would have been better tow get compensatory draft picks, than what we got, if we had let him walk. BUt seeing how those draft picks have turned out for Beinfest, who knows. The facts remain, that this team has been and will be handicapped by the fact we didn't clean up in the Cabrerra sweepstakes. Loria will now be forced to buy some bigtime players if he wants to make a splash for the new stadium instead of having 3 stud players that were groomed to open up the new place. Its such a shame. And as stated before, what is competitive about 3 and 7 in your last 10, and losing 4 of the last 5 series, and having a losing record at home ? I know the truth hurts, especially told by a troll. How glib some of you are.
  6. Allison, 1st round pick and Miller traded for Cabrerra. You need to do better than what we have done in the FO. You can't keep missing on 1st round picks, and trades and expect the team to be a playoff team. This time Beinfest has to get the better of the trades to come, because Cody, Uggla and Cantu together won't garner us what we should have gotten for Cabrerra. That trade with Detroit really will handicap this team for years. You needed to haul in Ft. Knox with that trade and instead you got the gold from Mike's Pawn Shop in downtown Miami. :confused The trade for Hanley was a good one, but its been evened out with the trade of Cabrerra/Willis. Back to square one for the FO. So it's the front office's fault that the Tigers ruined Miller and he didn't pan out and it's the front office's fault that Allison is a drug addict. This logic is precious. Miller should not have been considered. Dombrowski duped Beinfest plain and simple. The Allison pick should never have happened. There were players on his high school team that came out later and said he was doing drugs in High School, and if due dilligence had been done by the FO they wouldn't have picked a kid with a drug history and then laid $ 1 million on him. The results were nothing unexpected.
  7. ground* jesus chirst. i was drunk. suck it. "grown" sounds like "ground" anyway. and this isn't the orange bowl. the Marlins' stadium has no affliliation with the Hurricanes. i don't get it. they'll get their own stadium soon enough. and that "Red Grooms" thing (his name alone pisses me off) is DISGUSTING. its not even "tacky". its ugly. I am guessing you are not from South Florida. If you were you wouldn't even say a peep about the Orange Bowl. It was more, much, much more than just a football stadium. It WAS South Florida. 1st the original part of the main stands were built in the late 1930's. That in and of just itself is a miracle that it was standing more than 60 years later. 2nd, more than just Hurricanes history was made in that stadium. 16 college football national champions were crowned on that field. 5 Super Bowl champions were crowned there. The Dolphins had the longest home winning streak (1971 to 1975) for many year in the NFL and the U of Miami still holds the longest home winning streak of 58 games (1985 to 1994) there. Then you have High School football, which again if you aren't from here you can be excused for not knowing the history of HS football & the Orange Bowl, but if you are from here, there is ZERO excuse. I attended the famous 1966 Miami High vs Coral Gables "Dream Game" between what were the # 1 ranked Miami High and # 2 ranked Gables High. Gables won 20-16, and were crowned the (mythical) High School National Champions, and 65,000 attended that game, which still makes it the highest attended high school game in US history. That was the host for the game for 30 years that everyone attended on Thanksgiving Day here in Miami, the whole city revolved around it. For years it hosted a dozen or more "important" high school games every year, as well as every Dade County High School band competition. But aside from football, it also holds Miami baseball history, as the old Miami Marlins would play at least one series a year at the Orange Bowl from 1956-1960. Then there are the "other" sporting events that were held there. World Cup Soccer in 1996, and numerous CONCAF & World Cup qualifiers that were held there. There were also many, many boxing matches, pro "wrestling" events and dozens of other events, many of which were concerts by the biggest bands in the world, including Michael Jackson, Maddona, The Rolling Stones among others. Last but not least there was one of the biggest non-sporting events in the history of South Fla that took place in 1963. Just A couple of weeks before his asassination, President Kennedy made a speech to 50,000 Cuban Exiles, that established future American policies towards Cuba, and in turn changed the face of South Florida forever. So as one who spent countless hours at sporting events and other kinds of events in the Orange Bowl, please don't just slough off what that place means to me, and thousands of others who were born, or grew up in South Florida. To many of us, that place is almost hallowed sacred ground, and many an eye was tearful the day we saw it starting to be torn down. A big chunk of our lives was gone the day they tore it down. It was the equvialent for a South Fla native to Wrigley Field or Fenway Park being torn down.
  8. A long losing season? We have a positive run differential and have been on the wrong side of a couple of recent close games despite having 3 guys clearly underperforming. Come on. are they underperforming or did they overperform last year ? That can cut both ways.
  9. and gotten the Crown Jewels of someone's organization, instead of their fools gold that we received instead. We got like 5/10 of the Tigers' top Prospects including at the time the #6 and #10 prospect in baseball. That was a haul at the time, regardless of how it turned out. Fine, but you can't make any mistakes when you have to live in the budget restricted world that the Marlins must operate in. Your margin of error is so much smaller because you can't buy your way out of the trouble like the Phillies, Yankees, Mets or Red Sox can do. This is why they had to do better. We are a "meh" looking team right now because Miller is not another Johnson, and the catcher we got (forgotten his name already) was not a McCann. Had those been studs, along with Allison panning out we would be true contenders.
  10. I still don't think the Cabrera trade was that awful. Everyone and their mothers knew we weren't going to be able to resign Miguel. Maybin and Miller were highly regarded prospects (and Badenhop is more than servicable). The problem is that the FO felt the need to insert Miller ASAP into the rotation and not give him the proper seasoning to our style of pitching and be able to be coached up in the minor leagues. Now, this is somewhat excusable by the fact that Detroit rushed Miller to the big leagues via their contract so it sorta painted the FO into a corner with that and with the fact that Miggy was our most popular player at the time and the FO didn't want to look like fools in getting players that really needed some more time. They wanted, I bet, to show people "Hey, we got an immediate payback!" But you can't act that way as a GM. You have to do what is better for the long-term of your franchise. If Miller needed to go to the minors 1st, he should have been there. Period. Beinfest screwed that one up. He should have taken the PR hit but moved Cabrerra the year before he did, and gotten the Crown Jewels of someone's organization, instead of their fools gold that we received instead. I agree in that I think we struck with Miller at a big league level too long. But he is still relatively young and so is Maybin, so if they struggle for, let's say, the next two years or so, but then meet expectations or even, dare I say it, pass them for the next five to six years after that, then yes, the trade is worth it. For Miller, people point to Randy Johnson, who didn't really become Randy Johnson until he was 27 or so. It is hard to put a stamp of failure on the trade when both players are still learning and growing. If Miller is suddenly in Single A ball with no future and Maybin is out of here for a handful of neglible prospects, then yeah, we can have this discussion. The future of these players may not be as bright as one might have thought in being traded for Miggy, but any grade we give has to be incomplete at this point. Sensible argument you make. Its just hard to sit back and wait for them to develop. I keep hearing about Stausburg and it makes me sick to think Washington has him.
  11. It may happen sooner than that if they fall 6 or 7 games out of even 4th place. They now have to win the next two or lose their fourth series in a row. I don't believe that happened once last year. I could be wrong but it seemed that we were more consistant last year. Do the guys look enthused at all ? I just don't see the chemistry I used to see in the clubhouse. The smiling, the joking around, the cutting up. They look dour and sullen most of the time. Even when losing these guys used to still have some fun out there. Has the pressure from Loria's preseason statement of "I expect to make the playoffs" hanging like a cloud over them ? I guess no one here can really answer these questions but maybe others here can see if they observe the same things. Ummm...relax? Check the standings lately? yep....4th place and falling, 3 wins and 7 losses in the last ten, and lost 4 of the last 5 series. See a pattern ? Yep. You continue to be an annoying troll who starts ridiculous threads. Truth hurts ? Why is it trolling when you just state facts ? Just because I don't think that this team as its put together will be a winner ? I expected more this off-season and they didn't do anything. Now we are seeing the rotting fruits of their smugness. IOW I'm pissed that I waited all winter long for Marlins baseball and now its looking like a long losing season.
  12. The FO will get a free pass concerning whomever is traded as the precursor to Mike Stanton's arrival in the big leagues. The fanbase is too excited about this kid to be really upset if his arrival means that Dan Uggla is gone, IMO. What if Mike Stanton = Jeremy Hermida (by the way another 1st round bust by Beinfest) ? You can't put all your eggs in that one basket. If it busts you are really screwed.

  14. I know WHO they are, it's just a silly notion. Who though Allison was going to go all Josh Hamilton on us? Now our FO doesn't do anything right (not drafting, not trades)? Silly. That Cabrera trade was the best we could do at that moment (our biggest mistake was waiting so long to trade him). Seriously, you're beating this FO on 2 moves. And yeah, all those failed 1st round pick that they never make good on, like 2009 Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan. Mary Mary, why you buggin'? Lets reserve judgment on Chris. His slow start seems to be extended this year. He might be just a a one-year wonder. Lets hope he gets it going soon. It just seems that maybe some new fresh blood in the FO might help. But seriously, where is this team going ? We all know Uggla has to be gone by the end of the year. If they wait too long, they won't get diddly for him. They may not anyways. Last year was the year to trade him, but we couldn't as long as we stayed close to the WC. Is the team being primed for a big year in 2012 ? Then a lot of changes have to be made this off-season to set that up. By the way, getting rid of Uggla, Cody and Cantu, while the correct things to do, will be perceived once again by the locals here in Miami as another "firesale" and gives them more reason to distrust Loria. That is another reason to get rid of Uggla last year, just to deflect a lot of the "firesale" talk that will come up this off-season. Loria will have his hands full and a PR nightmare that the stadium opening alone will not make go away. Yes at 1st the public will love the new place, but this is Miami, and the new glitter and glam of the new stadium will last a few weeks and then the crowds will subside to more normal Marlins crowds. Its then that Loria and his word about spending for the team will be tested.

  16. Right now its Johnson, and everyone else. What am I not seeing ? I haven't been blinded by the Lord yet. Maybe by Father Morgan, but thats a story for another time. You see what you want. There's no point. Well tell where is Andrew Miller ? Where is Jeff Allison ? Those are guys that should be cornerstones of our rotation. Wait what?! Allison, 1st round pick and Miller traded for Cabrerra. You need to do better than what we have done in the FO. 18. I'm guessing you have won as many college world series as him. Sure I have, I was a Sugar Cane from 1979 to 1982, doesn't that count ? :mischief
  19. 3 games out, 1 game under .500, and a positive run differential.  But when we play a team with a real pitching staff, like SF look what happens.
  20. You don't see any upside in our pitching staff? Trolls can't look up, I take it? Something with the neck? Right now its Johnson, and everyone else. What am I not seeing ? I haven't been blinded by the Lord yet. Maybe by Father Morgan, but thats a story for another time.
  21. I knew the Meintkiewicz family years ago when I was going to the U of Miami Hurricanes games. I thought for sure little Doug would be a Cane. Instead he found himself in Trailerhassee as a Semi-Whole. Oh well we all can't be College World Series winners. :thumbup
  22. Meh, it's always funny to see people overreacting in May. Here are some reasons why not to overreact. http://mlb.mlb.com/m...sp?ymd=20090505 I see 3 playoffs teams under .500 on this day last year, and another team was .500 that was pretty good... Wanna guess who that team was? The New York Yankees http://mlb.mlb.com/m...sp?ymd=20080505 You can say similar things this year, White Sox were 3 games under (won the division), the Brewers were only 1 game over .500 (won wild card), and a few teams that were top dogs on this date 2 years ago had mediocre seasons. More reason to not judge a season by the first month. Relax and enjoy the ride. Well I would relax if I saw a lot of upside in our pitching staff. But I don't even think a miracle from the Lord above can help this motley crew.
  23. Can this season be saved ? Instead of a trade I'm thinking troll excommunication is more in order. :brigginbounce Troll Ex-communication ? No way, I am busting my ass here in the convent to get the Abbess position. I just need to get that darn Mother Mary Fukker bumped off. Anyone have a good way to make some exploding rosary beads ? :whistle
  24. I think it looks great, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. I am still not exactly sure what we will get for our homerun pop-up. Samson said the other day on the telecast to Tommy & Rich that it will be an artsy-fartsy thing. Oh dear God ! There's a video and a rendering of it floating around somewhere, but I recommend not viewing them. Yeah. I was looking for it to show Mary but I think the tact police removed it from the internet. Though, to say it's bad because it's "artsy-fartsy" borders on ignorant-sounding. Well trying to be better in my paraphrasing of Mr Samson, he said something like "everyone will be blown away, Jeff's involvement in the art world will be melded into our centerpiece and homerun feature". Sorry but that sounds like its gonna be "artsy-fartsy" to me. But I will go hunting for those videos, now my curiosity is really piqued.
  25. It's May 5th. We are one game, one game under .500 Close. Thread. But 3-7 in our last 10, and have lost 4 of the last 5 series.
