1. Gaby didnot play tonite for New Orleans, so I think he is coming back
2. Yeah it's time to get Gaby back up. When more than half the lineup is crap, that's going to catch up to you sooner or later. Gaby is not starting tonite for New Orleans maybe he will be recall for tommorrow's game?
3. The one thing about this team that I see that I don't like is that they seem to swinging at everything with uppercut to hit HR instead of line drives. Look at Greg Dobbs he uses the whole park knows what the situation is and gets it done. I think the biggest example of this on team is Logan Morrison when he first came up he was a line drive hitter gap to gap now he is a pull hitter (look at the defensive shifts) which has taken him from his strenghts. The only guy the Marlins have that can do this is Giancarlo Stanton and he stated that Conine help him by giving him a tip of what he used to do in Batting Practice hitting ball to right field. Does Eduardo Perez have anything to do with this or not I don't know but there needs to be some accountabilty for the problem this team is having with their situational/clutch hitting. Maybe we can make Greg Dobbs player/hitting coach
4. I live an hour north of Tampa and this game will not be shown here. Instead we get Angels vs Texas. I can believe that here in Florida we are getting this game instead of Mets vs Marlins. I'll follow it on internet by pool. I wrote to FOX to complain I guest they do not care about ratings for this saturday game here in Florida.
5. I lived in Weston until 2004, now in Citrus County. Season ticket holder from 1993 - 2005, thinking about getting 20 game package, family still in Miami so I can get rid of games.
6. Matt Dominguez, Logan Morrison and John Baker playing for Jupiter tonite.
7. Our outfield defense in 03 was pretty laskluster, if I'm not mistaken. In 2003 we had Encarnacion, Pierre and Cabrera. Encarnacion was a pretty good outfielder with speed who covered alot of ground in rightfield, Pierre although no arm was a good otfielder with speed, Cabrera a much better hitting version of Hermida as outfielder.
8. Bonafacio is here to stay and he will be playing second base his natural position. The only way the Marlins take the next step up is to be better defensively the series this weekend in Tampa should have opened your eyes. That is the main reason Tampa Bay has improved so much over the last two years. I don't know about you guys but I'm tire of watching Uggla with his limited range and not been able to make plays at second along with Hermida not getting to fly balls which should be outs and therefore extending innings which make our pitchers work harder. In 2003 the main reson the Marlins won the World Series was pitching and defense, the 2009 Marlins have pitching but they will not reach the next level until the defense improves.
9. The best way to lit a fire under the Miami-Dade politicians!!! Just a pipe dream right now, but this is the only way that politicians will act on something if they knew there was some competition for the Marlins close to their territory.
10. Brighthouse here in Citrus County has Marlins game on channel 27 ESPN :notworthy
11. I'll be there Sunday with my wife and son Section 122 just past third base.
12. I have already purchase (purchase them back in beginning of April) three $22.00 tickets for Sundays game, I''ll be there with my wife and 8 year old son, he likes running the bases after the game. Dr Guava
13. 1984 Boston College vs Miami Flutie's hail mary. I was in student section with my cousin and his friends they were thinking of going on the field after the end of game, after Flutie complete the past the only sound you heard in the Orange Bowl was this small section of boston college fans. My cousin and his friends were saying that Jimmy Johnson suck as coach (that was his 1st year at UM). Honorable mention are game 7 of 1997 WS and game 4 NLCS vs Giants with Pudge hanging on to ball.
14. Tonite I spoke with a good friend of mine who is is a lobbist up in Tallahassee and he told me that there was talk of a special session for not only some of the bills not passed last week but also for the Marlins stadium. He stated if this happens they would only consider the money for the Marlins stadium and not for all the other sports ventures/groups who wnated tax money. I know this is not guaranteed but maybe there is some hope afterall. Thanks, Dr Guava
15. Like I mention before I think somehow they will find a way to get this deal done there is too much at stake. I still believe that if they don't get the money from the state that this deal will get done. This is where MLB, especifically Bud Selig, needs to get financially involve to make sure that this deal gets done. MLB needs to be more like the NFL in helping communities built stadiums in the long run both MLB and the community wins. MLB can provide the Marlins and the city of Miami the final 30 million, this can be returne to MLB if Loria ever sells the franchise you know that the value of the Marlins will continue to increase and will increase even more if they get a new stadium. This would be a win win situation for everybody. I just don't think that MLB will walkway from one the biggest markets in Baseball, especially when it comes to TV market. Lets be realistic either this deal gets done or the Marlins will leave because the way the deal is structure at Dolphins stadium the Marlins can't survive. So either way Wayne loses his income from the Marlins. Now if MLB or the Marlins knew of another lucrative area to locate the Marlins they would have been gone already if not on the way that is why I still believe that this deal will get done there is too much money at stake.
16. As I reported yesterday I spoke with senator Mike Fasano and he will not support this bill.
17. I moved to Citrus county (north of Tampa) about 8 months ago from Broward so I decided to contact my senate representative Mike Fasano via the telrphone. To my surprise he answered the phone and I explained to him that I would appreciate his support on the Bill in the senate for the money needed for the Marlins stadium. He told me that he is against giving money to sports franchises and that he would probably no vote in favor of it. At this point he tells me that the Marlins have already received their tax break before I reminded him that the it is Wayne Hueizenga who is getting the tax break not the Marlins. After that he started to get real nasty and basically that I was wasting his time and that now he would for sure vote against the bill. BTW this Mike Fasano and Tom Lee both voted for the money for spring training stadiums including Brighthouse Stadium in Clearwater which just happens to be in Mike Fasano's district!!! JUST REMEMBER THIS NAME FOR THE FUTURE MIKE FASANO (Remember Johnny Byrd last year). I wish you could file a complaint against this idiot. Thanks Dr Guava
18. Encarnacion is going nowhere, he's the best defensive OF on the team. The guy played hurt when he was traded to Florida. take his numbers from last year along with his 2003 numbers, and somewhere in the middle you got the Juan who WILL play in Florida this season. Remember he had 80 plus RBI's in '03. Since you brought up the Cubs and trade rumors...here's one trade just for fun OF Todd Hollandsworth(1 million per) For OF Juan Encarrnacion and prospect (Luke Hagerty maybe) save 3 million and you get another lefty in the line-up Just a thought... 672204 I agree with Teal Shadow the Marlins should keep Enc and play him in right field. Enc as a no 7 hitter is great look at his stats and compare to other 7th place hitters in baseball. We need Enc defense in right field as we saw last year Cabrera does not have the speed to play the big right field area in Pro Player. As far as Aguila goes I don't think that the Marlins spend that kind of money on Delgado to put a rookie out in right field, did you forget the Ramon Castro disaster last year. Enc contract will be up at the end of year anyway. Conine can play off the bench this will make our bench even stronger.
19. I've had the Saturday Package in Club level B since 2003 and I can tell you that for the playoffs and World Series in 2003 I had the same tickets.
20. I have the 20 game Saturday package for Club Level B which I have had since 2002. The reson I went back to being a season ticket holder (I was a season ticketholder from 1993 - 1999) was that the price for myself and my family was reasonable. Unfortunately paying almost $2000.00 for three seats is just way too much money for myself. I will go back to going to about 10 games a year. I don't blame the FO but I don't think that people in South Florida have this kind of money to spend on Baseball games considering how much the cost of living has increased here in South Florida. I love baseball and the Marlins but the economic stability of my family comes first.
21. Dawg31, I think all Marlin fans appreciated everything that Penny did for us especially watching not only him but all the other players grow as Major League players over the last five years. Unfortunately, in order to get something good we had to give up something in return. Good luck to Brad in his new team and thank you very much for 2003. :hat
22. Something I learned a few weeks ago about the CBA: Small revenue teams like the Marlins have to count their local revenue as a greater percentage than the Yankees or others towards revenue sharing. So in effect attendance increases are really only for show and to fill Huizenga's pockets through concessions and parking. Here's my 2005 team: Redmond (1.25), Willingham (.4), Conine (4.75), Castillo (5.33), Lowell (8), Gonzalez (3.4), Pierre (3.4), Cabrera (.7), Aguila (.4), Treanor/Castro (.4), Mordi (.5), cheap outfielder (1.5) Pavano (7), Burnett (4.5), Beckett (4), Willis (.6), Wayne (.4), Bump (.4)Mota (3.25), Howard (.4), Spooney (.45) Fill in the bench with other minor leagues and spring training invites. Total cost + Hampton/Pudge: 64.03 494385 Mark my words Paul Loduca will be our catcher next year. I would not be surprised if Redmond is not on team. Definetely Castro will not be back. The Marlins FO found out how important a good catcher is they will not make that mistake again. You are putting to much emphasis on Willingham being a catcher which I doubt very much his future in the major leagues (as long as he hits) is left field or first base. Then again if the stadium deals does not get done it will not matter because then many other players will be gone including Lowell. :hat
23. Here is an article written by Fred Claire who was the president of the Dodgers. 08/01/2004 12:11 AM ET Claire: A letter to Lo Duca Baseball Perspectives Fred Claire An open letter to Florida Marlin catcher Paul Lo Duca: Dear Paul: It seems strange to write you in care of the Florida Marlins. I'm sure it feels a little strange for you too. I just wanted to drop you a note to congratulate you on a great career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. I remember when we drafted you in June of 1993. There aren't a lot of 25th round draft selections that catch the attention of the general manager, but I recall the scouting report of Dodger scout Eddie Bane and the excitement he conveyed when you were selected. You worked your way through the Dodger farm system step by step, from Vero Beach to Bakersfield to San Antonio to Albuquerque to Dodger Stadium. It took you six seasons, but you just kept plugging away, and I never will forget your first hit -- June 21, 1998, in Colorado -- a single to center to score a run. It was your first hit and my final day as the general manager of the Dodgers. When we flew back to Los Angeles after the game, I was called to Dodger Stadium and told my services were no longer needed. As it turns out, my final player personnel move was to call you up from Albuquerque two days before your Major League debut. You received the call to the big leagues because we needed a catcher in that Charles Johnson had requested permission to leave the team for a couple of days because there had been a death in his family. We couldn't go with just one catcher and you were ready for the big leagues. I guess we both can see a little irony here in that the Dodgers were trying to get Johnson to replace you this time around, but Charles declined. One of the best things that happened to the Dodgers during the past six seasons was your outstanding play, spirit and team leadership. When the Dodgers announced on Friday that you had been traded to the Marlins, I was pleased to see that more than one of the Los Angeles reporters referred to you as the "heart and soul" of the team. The beat guys got that one right, for sure. You never complained when you worked your way through the minors even though you knew Mike Piazza was there behind the plate at Dodger Stadium. You talk about a guy blocking your path. There was a lot of talk in our organization about a catcher named Angel Pena. Pena received a lot of attention, but you never let that bother you. You just kept plugging away. Both you and I knew you had a future in the big leagues when you received a lot of attention from a coach in our organization who knew something about the position of catcher -- Mike Scioscia. In a way, it seems you were destined to play for the Dodgers. After all, any player who is born in Brooklyn and survives 24 rounds before he is selected by the Dodgers has a little something extra in the mix. At a time when the Dodgers were struggling for an identity and going from the ownership of the O'Malleys to Fox to the McCourt family you became a visible sign of stability. When things were going rough and it seemed many players were hiding out in the trainer's room, you were the guy who always was there to stand before the microphones and cameras and answer the questions. You never ran from the tough questions and you always were the first to direct the credit to other players. As the media reported, you were the "heart and soul." It's obvious you were disappointed when the trade was announced on Friday but you took the news like the professional you are and you said you felt the Dodgers had enough talent and leadership to advance to postseason play. I hope you're right. Sure, you showed your emotion when you met with the media to talk about the trade. That's just you. You always showed your emotion when you took the field and played the game. Despite your disappointment with the trade, you headed off to join the Florida Marlins. You arrived in Miami in time to join your new teammates in the fifth inning of Saturday night's game. My old buddy Jack McKeon didn't waste any time getting you into the game and you delivered a two-run, pinch-hit home run in the sixth inning to put the Marlins ahead, 5-4. It had to feel good when the Marlin fans responded with a loud ovation. Believe me, they will love you in Miami. You have had a rather amazing journey since that draft of 1993. There are not a lot of guys who come from that part of the draft and reach the Majors, let alone become an All-Star caliber player. I know you wanted to stay with the Dodgers for your entire career but strange things happen in this game. Just ask the last catcher to get traded from the Dodgers to the Marlins, a fellow named Mike Piazza. I wish you the very best, Paul, and I'm pleased that I had the opportunity to give you the call to the big leagues for an assignment that you had earned through you determination and hard work. Best wishes, Fred Claire
