March 12, 200422 yr Author Are we talking about David Boston or Boston Market? Boston Market of course!
March 12, 200422 yr By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com While team officials keep trying to reel in wide receiver David Boston via a trade, the Dolphins remained busy in the free agent market as well, netting three veterans to bolster the roster. Discussions aimed at acquiring the enigmatic Boston from the Chargers, who have decided to rid themselves of the troubled wide receiver after just one season, have accelerated in recent days and the team hopes to have a deal in place by Monday. But that doesn't mean general manager Rick Spielman has been so preoccupied by trade talks that he shut down for business in other areas. In a flurry of activity, the Dolphins have signed offensive lineman John St. Clair and tailback Sammy Morris, and also re-signed punter Matt Turk. All three players were unrestricted free agents. Miami is also likely to complete a revised deal with offensive tackle Damion McIntosh, who had agreed to a contract last weekend but then failed his physical exam and subsequently underwent ankle surgery. St. Clair, 26, is a four-year veteran who played his entire career with the Rams, who chose him in the third round of the 2000 draft. The former University of Virginia star did not play a snap his first two seasons, took over as the starting right tackle in 2002, then was shuttled back to the bench in '03 after St. Louis acquired Kyle Turley. He has played in 32 games and started 16 and has been told he will have the opportunity to compete for the starting right tackle spot. St. Clair signed a two-year contract worth $2.6 million. The deal included a $600,000 signing bonus, base salaries of $600,000 in 2004 and $1.1 million in 2005, with a $300,000 roster bonus the second year. A nine-year veteran, Turk is returning to the Dolphins on a three-year, $2.65 million contract with a signing bonus believed to be about $350,000. The 35-year-old punter appeared in 12 games for the Dolphins in 2003, averaging 38.7 yards gross and a net of 34.5 yards, both career lows. His career averages, with three different franchises, are 42.5 yards gross and 39.9 yards net. The Dolphins turned to Turk after free agent Josh Miller, released by Pittsburgh earlier in the week, rejected a five-year offer. Morris, 26, is a solid reserve back who can also return kickoffs. He signed a two-year deal, details of which were not immediately known, after also being courted by Cleveland and New England. The former Texas Tech star was a fifth-round choice of the Buffalo Bills in 2000. He played well as a rookie, then was buried on the depth chart, as the Bills brought in several other tailbacks. In four seasons, Morris has carried 134 times for 488 yards and six touchdowns, and has 61 receptions for 452 yards and one score. He played in 53 games and started nine times. While all three players should contribute to the Dolphins in 2004, the big catch would be Boston, who has been given permission by frustrated Chargers officials to seek a trade. Boston is said to prefer the Dolphins, in part because of the presence of new receivers coach Jerry Sullivan, his first position mentor when he entered the league with Arizona. Completing a trade will be complicated since Boston is owed $6.9 million over the next two years of the seven-year, $45 million contract he signed with San Diego last year. He is due a $1 million roster bonus on Monday. espn.com
March 12, 200422 yr Why in the World would the Dolphins want that d*uchebag? I lived in AZ while he played for the Cards and he was nothing but trouble. He was always getting arrested for Drug use, abuse...all sorts of police matters...and then the same thing happened in S.D. too! Trust me, you guys don't want this tool, he'll do nothing but cause trouble in Miami...he's trash and he always will be! :thumbdown :banghead :mischief2
March 12, 200422 yr I can't believe anybody actually wants that guy. Yea, it would only give the Dolphins two 1,000 yard threats at wide reciever for Feeley. I don't care what he does on his own time, as long as he catches 80 for 1,000, I'm good.
