April 1, 200422 yr Former Marlin Jason Grilli was optioned to Triple A by the White Sox. Wasnt he chosen in the Rule 5 Draft from the Marlins? Doesnt that mean he would have to be offered back to us if he didnt make the team? April 1, 200422 yr if he's part of the 40 man roster than i dont think it makes a difference. shouldnt this be on the MLB forum? ... just wondering
April 1, 200422 yr I'm pretty certain that rule 5 players have to be on the 25 man roster, hence the gamble in taking kids in it.

April 2, 200422 yr RotoWorld - The Marlins elected not to take Grilli, a Rule 5 pick, back, knowing that if they tried to send him outright to the minors, he could and would reject the assignment.

April 2, 200422 yr Why didn't we have tried to assign him to the minors - the worst that could have happened was he rejects it and becomes a free agent, right?
April 2, 200422 yr No, the stupid move would be to offer $25k or $50k, whatever the amount is to get a rule 5 player back, to the White Sox, just so he would promptly become a free agent. Why waste the money?
