April 3, 200422 yr Ryan Snare - was pitching ok w/ Rangers before being sent down Gary Knotts - has 3.54 ERA w/ Tigers as starter in ST Nate Robertson - in contention for Tigers 5th Starting Pitcher Denny Bautista Don Levinski Im not complaining since we did win the WS but i was just thinking "What if" we still has these pitchers, 1 or 2 could've made it out of ST.
April 3, 200422 yr if you cant make the rangers staff you wont make the marlins staff. being 'in conention' for the tigers spot is like being in contention for a AAA job for most other clubs. bautista and levinski are not ready for the majors yet. so maybe knotts would do well for us. but he is a marginal prospect anyway.
April 3, 200422 yr Author Like i said im not complaining since we won the WS last year but it would've been nice to have more competition. Competition makes everybody better. I agree that Bautista and Levinski are not ready but the other three couldve contended for a pen role.
April 3, 200422 yr Author BTW, just b/c Snare didnt make the Rangers staff doesnt mean that he didnt make it since he pitched well but didnt get too much oppurtunities so the Rangers never had him in their short term plans.
April 3, 200422 yr This thread is pointless.. Too bad we din't trade Brown, Leiter and Livan...they could have provided some additional competition as well.
April 3, 200422 yr Author Sorry guys...the Mets game today frustrated me to the point to start his thread
April 3, 200422 yr BTW, just b/c Snare didnt make the Rangers staff doesnt mean that he didnt make it since he pitched well but didnt get too much oppurtunities so the Rangers never had him in their short term plans. ya because the rangers have so many great arms as it stands right?
April 3, 200422 yr Author Snare pitched in Double A last year and many teams would not promote a player until they reach Triple A no matter how grave their needs are. Its called developing the picther my friend.

April 3, 200422 yr even crappy teams generally take the best players out of spring. snare didnt earn a job out of camp. its that simple. its not like the rangers have pitching to hold back arms that are rocketing through the minors. i mean damn...look at that staff.

April 3, 200422 yr Author How is Ryan Snare going to make the team if they gave him only one inning to prove himself? He's pitched well in the minor leagues but the Rangers didnt think he was ready so they didnt give him a chance from the get go.
April 3, 200422 yr woah ... i really do need to get back to bed ... this is pointless. only trade that i did mind was Livan for Grilli/Bump ... cuz those two didnt do jack. and i would like Gary Knotts back, i think he would make a good relief pitcher.
April 3, 200422 yr How is Ryan Snare going to make the team if they gave him only one inning to prove himself? He's pitched well in the minor leagues but the Rangers didnt think he was ready so they didnt give him a chance from the get go. so how would he have helped us?
April 3, 200422 yr This may have just surpassed the "Trade Choi" thread as the most asenine thread here. Basically, somebody can't see the big picture: If the Marlins still had Ryan Snare, they would not have had Uggie Urbina. If the Marlins still had Gary Knotts, they would not have had Mark Redman If the Marlins still had Denny Bautista/Don Levinski, they would not have had Jeff Conine. You can't look at what the Marlins lost, without looking at what the team gained! Perhaps before you put something in a thread, think it over first!
April 3, 200422 yr The poster did not say we shouldnt have made those trades, it was just a what if scenario based on todays pitching. geez, no need to jump all over somebody, even though the idea is a little silly.
April 3, 200422 yr yes and if a guy is not ready for the majors with the rangers... why would he even factor in with the big leauge club here? therefore whats the point of the arguement? 1 or 2 could of made it out of ST according to the poster. bautista and levinski are both at least a good year or two away. same with snare .... acording to the topic starter..not being ready. so that means out of the 5...only 2 are ready. big deal.
April 3, 200422 yr Author I sense some bad vibes coming from people. Relax guys. I was just wished we had more depth during ST to push these guys harder and i thought it would've bee nice to have more quality arms in the competition. Never have i said that i wouldnt have pulled off the trades from last year. Im just frustrated with the pen problems we've had this year so far.
