Oliver purposely threw behind Valdez in the fourth inning. The umpire walked toward Oliver as Valdez remained in the batters box. Valdez responded with a double. :confused

April 5, 200422 yr from the 'Topes official website: ?Topes defeat World Champion Marlins 9-1 Wilson Valdez went 3 for 5 with an RBI and four stolen bases to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 9-1 win over the Florida Marlins on Sunday afternoon at Isotopes Park. A paid record crowd of 14,177 fans was in attendance. The game was called after seven innings due to inclement weather, playing conditions, and travel plans. Valdez started the action in the bottom of the first, recording a single before stealing second and third base, and scoring on an error by Marlins third baseman Mike Mordecai. Michael Colangelo followed with a single, before Matt Padgett drove a ball off Wil Cordero?s glove in left, making the score 3-0. The Marlins scored a run on three hits in the top of the second off starter Kevin Olsen to cut the lead to 3-1. Albuquerque answered with two more runs in the bottom of the inning as Valdez once again singled, stole two bases, and scored on a Ryan Christenson single. Admin Sutton made the score 5-1 with the Isotopes fourth hit of the inning off starter Darren Oliver. Olsen would go 3.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts, while Marty McLeary picked up the win in relief. Albuquerque scored four more runs in the seventh inning before rain halted action. The 14,177 fans is the largest crowd to see a game at Isotopes Park, surpassing 13,380 fans the Isotopes drew on August 31 of last season vs. Nashville. The Isotopes have the next three days off before opening the regular season on April 8 at Memphis. ------- OMG, Valdez did it twice to Oliver (stole second AND third), no wonder he was pissed. So after Oliver tries to brush him back the kid hits a double. Deep down inside I bet Jack loved it.
April 5, 200422 yr Deep down inside I bet Jack loved it. I'm sure he likes the message it sends. Sort of a 'Remember, the guys that just beat you up are only one step away from your job.' Certainly encourages a 'perform or else' scenario.

April 5, 200422 yr Good for Valdez. I really like this kid and think he has a nice future. Four steals is impressive. I'm sure Wilson Valdez wanted to show Jack he made a mistake in sending him down. Valdez has the talent to be on the team right now but we want him to be a regular, so he'll start in AAA. He'll be recalled if Gonzalez or Castillo get hurt.
