I liked watching games with Sammy, yeah. But I didn't like the full blown, out there every second coverage of him and McGwire. Same BS all over again. Drop it already, it's annoying. They are going to do the same thing if any other record is approached, and it's annoying as hell. Makes you not care about the record.

It is important. I'm the first to acknowledge that the list of most home runs is the most hallowed, most important, and most selective of any of the major lists in any of the sports. But all this coverage is making even the home run race, what is such an awesome record to follow, seem like just another annoying thing that happens in baseball everyonce in a while.

This is great news for Barry and the Giants, not only did he tie Willie Mays but now the stress is off his shoulders. Now he doesnt need to worry about hitting one more homerun to catch up to Mays.

Barry Bonds is an unbelievable player, I wont deny that. However, I think referring to him as the greatest of all time is foolish. To be great, one has to accomplish more than just personal accolades. Im not taking anything away from Bonds accomplishments, but i just dont think he deserves to have his name up there with guys like Ruth,Mantle,Dimaggio,Musial,Gerhig,Williams,Aaron, Mays, and Clemente just because he's accomplishing this now. I think Bonds is definitely one of the best hitters ti ever live, but calling him the best player ever is dumb. The guy loafs in the field, he jogs to balls that roll to the wall instead of running for Gods sake. Im sorry, no matter how good you can hit, you need to bust your ass in the field too. And until Bonds proves that he has heart for something other than his damn records, he's just going to be "That guy that passed Aaron" to me.

How many times did you see those other guys play to know whether they did any of the stuff you listed?

 

I think it's foolish NOT to put him on that list. I'm sure Babe Ruth hustled to every fly ball, as did all the rest of the "gods" you listed, as we continue to put guys we've never seen play before up on this pedestal because those before us tell us they were great.

look, i appreciate and admire athletes who can shatter impressive records and burn their names into the history books. i love guys who can go on the field and dominate just about everyone at the game.

 

i have mad admiration for guys like pedro, clemens, big unit, gwynn, a-rod, griffey, pujols. i love barry sanders and i think MJ is the s***.

People have all these pictures and such, it's all circumstancial. It only proves something if you want it to prove something. If they prove the guy did steroids, then I'm all for striking him from the record books.

 

If they prove he took something before it was illegal, then that's another thing. If he took THG and it was legal, then he's justified in doing it in my opinion. It was legal, it would make him better, he has every right to do it.

Bonds never said that about Ruth. If you saw the actual interview, you would see that was a complete hack job on Bonds.
