answer:

Because Jack runs a low pressure club house. This team is special

Because Big Poppa doesn't like New York biznitch

or Baltimore either! C'mon, you know NOBODY likes Baltimore

He was always good, fans just expected him to be perfect. One thing you'll learn though is he tends to beat up on low-caliber teams.

That and he seemed to only suck when it came to important games. Technically he has been a better regular season closer than Rivera, but he's the kind of guy who will lose the 5 or 6 big games that truly make a difference. he's beyond stats, it's really weird.

It could be he has a tendency to overthrow when he gets into pressure situations.

Rosenthal has already worked with him to slow down a bit, and take a bit of velocity off the ball to make sure he hits his locations.

The key to Benitez' success will be to continue this and continue to pitch, not throw.

That and his pride. His idea of pitching is getting up there and throwing 150 mph. If he would learn an off speed pitch he would be devastating, but he has to throw as hard as he can. He doesn't even like to throw his slider that much anymore, and that's one of his best pitches.

I can say the reason why Benitez is pitching like this and why so is the whole staff.

THe answer is Wayne Rosenthal. He is one of the best pitching coaches in MLB.

Rosenthal has gained national attention for the development of the pitching staff. There was a nice bit on him last night on BBTN showing the improvements of both Josh and Pavs last season.

No question Wayne has been a tremendous find. Bill Robinson also deserves accolades for his work with hitters. And Perry Hill is also tremendous. Jack...well it goes without saying. It could easily be said we have the best coaching staff in the majors.

How would he rank with Mazzone?

Mazzone is awesome, but Rosenthal is getting there. I think if this staff has continued success over the years you can consider them equal. Not before though.

Because like the rest of them said, there isn't as much pressure. Unlike New York, when u mess up they don't kick u off the team! Look at Soriano! Poor guy loved playing for the Yankees "it's a dream come true". But apparently they didnt feel the same way about him. Now i bet u anything, they would love to have him back, he is doing really well with Texas.

I was pissed when they made the soriano deal, because A-Rod was a down grade money wise (I mean, we could of got ventura for third base, and his production there plus Soriano's at second would mostly make up for it for a lot less.)

Even though Soriano only hit one homer in a week he's batting .381, with a .435 obp and .500 slug. For the season I expect the power to go up and the obp (and avg) to go down.

Its much more calm in Miami. No big crowd, no radio calls blasting you, no profanities directed towards you, just go and close the game.

Armando is doing great here for one reason....

OUR fans do get on his back while he is pitching. We dont rag on him or nothing, so he feels very comfortable.

I disagree, the crowds for Benitez's saves have been just around as much as the Mets had when he was closing for them, maybe bigger. We also make ALOT more noise per fan than almost any other team in the bigs. The difference is that our 30,000 is alot more supportive and tolerant than their 30,000. We will boo, but you have to mess up a couple times before to earn the boos. And if you start performing well again, we'll stop. When we get up and clap, we'll keep clapping until you get the out. We aren't here to tear people apart.

There has been no reason to give him a difficult time. 6 saves in 6 opportunities is great!

I'll bet most of us were a bit worried when he gave up the dinger and double in his first appearance....but he closed it out, and that's what counted.

Well Armando had a 3 run lead in a lot of the games that he saved anways...so it wasnt so hard.

And he is doing better here than in NY because he got booed so much in NY because NY expects every player to never make a mistake...

Exactly. Look at Looper. Even though he was crap for us sometimes, we still loved him and he was huge when it mattered.
