Futbol Time.

Featured Replies

I am glad to see some nice futbol fans here. While sports like volleyball and etc may have higher proportions of players, there are reasons for that. However they cannot get anywhere close to the popularity of futbol.

Its been once again shown how global futbol truly is in this world. I am very happy that people are actually taking of their damn American shaded glasses and seeing the truth.

Hey, Jack, this is America and if we don't like soccer, then that's that. Take your pansy-sport loving ass back to Mexico.

Remember the Alamo! Ignorance is bliss :whistle

Nevertheless, no one can deny that more people watch Futbol worldwide than anyother sport and there is no other sports event, except for the Olympics, that is as big as the world cup... It may not be the case in the US, but the US is not the world, contrary to what you may believe.

Here is a little history behind the Most Popular Sport in the planet. :mischief

Popularity of Soccer Around the World I am going to talk about the most popular sport in the world: football. Now, you may be having visions of huge quarterbacks, dressed up in their padding and helmets, parading down the field during the Super Bowl. But the other kind of football, the football the rest of the world knows, has no padding or helmets. This other football is known in America as soccer. In more than 175 countries across the globe, football, or soccer, rates as the number 1 national sport. Football dates back as far as thousands of years ago. There are records that show that ancient civilizations of Greece, Egypt, and China (among others) played an age-old form of football with a stuffed leather ball. Early games in Old England were like mob riots. There were no rules; it was anything goes! The games were so rowdy and violent that many English rulers tried to outlaw them. But it didn?t work. In fact, English travelers took the game with them, spreading it all around the globe. But there needed to be rules. In 1863 the Football Association was formed, or FA, in England.

Read my post... I never implied that Volleyball was better than futbol.

BTW, futbol was not born in Africa it was born in England in the middle ages and also the Aztecs used to play a form of futbol, well before the spaniards invaded America.

As I suspected... Futbol and Football are brothers...

The first recorded soccer (football) game took place in England in 217 A.D., and by the 12th century the annual Shrove Tuesday contest was a regular event.

Various forms of soccer-style games have been around since Roman times, and the United States was the first British colony to start playing soccer-style games. Some form of football was played in the Colonies as far back as the establishment of the original Jamestown settlement in 1609. The rules are unclear, but they most likely resembled the sprawling Shrovetide games then popular in England. It was soon banned by ordinance as a reputed bad influence, and for the next two centuries appeared only in the least restricted of colonial communities.

The modern form of soccer originated in England in the early 1830's. The sport grew among working-class communities and was seen as a way of keeping young and energetic kids out of trouble at home and in the school; they could let off steam and learn the values of teamwork (rampant individualism was considered a problem at the time).

However, the real Futbol is what Americans call Soccer. It is played with your feet and not with your hands... Therefore American Football should be called "Handball". :thumbup

*waits for Football fans to kick her ass*

Balonpies (as Cubans and Puerto Ricans call it) or Soccer (as Americans and Canadians call it) will never take over North American Football because it is a pansy sport with no art or grace.

Soccer meant communism and socialism for many years and commies and socialistas aren't very popular if you haven't noticed.

WOW. What you wowing at Das?

your statement.

i cannot believe what you just said and the analogy you used.

WOW.

It is true Das. To free westerners, Soccer has always been foreign and a sport associated with countries, which for the most part, have at one time been modern US enemies.

Soccer can become the fifth sport, but it needs to be progressive. The worst thing it did was fold the teams in Tampa and Miami. Hopefully the will expand soon and bring a team to Orlando which could support it and has alot of potential fans.

OMG!

Since when was England a communist country or an enemy of the US?

people think baseball is slow, soccer is slow, this sport will never take off in the united states. soccr should be considered like hockey

soccer is far from slow ... it could be 90 minutes of non stop action ... they applaud good plays, not just goals like it is in the united stated.

the only reason Soccer will never be succesful here, its because americans have a short attention span, and they need breaks ... plus in a economic point of view it will never work because there is no breaks so u can have comercials and make money.

USA! USA! USA!

HAHAHAHA never gonna happen ... there is way too much talent out there for it to happen.

Last world cup USA got lucky because it was FIXED

the last world cup was easily the worst ever.

keep it where its at ... in Europe or in South America ... anywhere else is just a mistake

next world cups

06 in Germany (thank god ... its only 2 years away ::chills:: )

10 in South Africa (should be good, afterall africa is the birthplace of the sport)

We'll see.

This country's too big, there's too many athletes, we've finally got the full development programs in place. It's just a matter of time. Look at our under 20 teams, they're all very good.

THE EVIL EMPIRE OF SOCCER !!!

MLS needs a team in miami

huge mistake playing in ft. lauderdale. miami (specifically little havana around the bowl) is full of soccer fans, and i think things wouldve turned out differently if the fusion played at the bowl

i agree the fusion would have survived in the OB i didn't even know where Lockhart Stadium was until a went to an Orioles games. MLS was very stupid in contracting the fusion, by the way why were they named the fusion every team has a reason for their name but i can't figure this one out.

I didn't know that France, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, England and Germany signified communism to the "free" world (meaning U.S).

Listen Pal, just because the US doesn't play well in soccer doesn't mean that it is a communist's sport... God! American kids are so f***ing ignorant!

  • 4 weeks later...

Well, I prefer the term "futebol". ;)

Anyway, World Cup 2010 goes to, as many predicted, South Africa.

A little bit on what South Africa is going to offer:

Finally, for any of you putos (and I mean that in jest) who think it's boring...

I'd like to see some of you try that stunt at a ballpark. :D
