April 20, 200422 yr OK, this wasn't all that surprising, and no, I don't think they're going to move; the Expos have a much clearer mandate for moving and they haven't been able to move for close to 3 years. I'm just more worried that we won't be able to keep what we have, forget about adding more. I still say that the most important date for this franchise is the date in November that Mike Lowell's contract becomes voided without the stadium, other than that it's just uncertainty; this doesn't change anything all that much, because we're now just going to be lobbying private investors for money, something we would have had to do anyway because even if we got the $60 mil from the state we'd still need to find $55 mil somewhere else...
April 20, 200422 yr amazing how Wayne H does not own the team but probably makes more money off the Florida Marlins than the actual owners do between his $166,666 monthly check from the state his digustingly unfair lease agreement with the team the concessions/advertising/and parking revenues from the stadium on home games and the ownership of the the Sunshine Network which televises the games why bother owning the team and having to bear the brunt of the operating expenses. the florida marlins is still a cash generator for good ol' Wayne
April 20, 200422 yr Kind of makes you wonder if they should have gone with the Orange Bowl proposal, the only one on the table up to now. Let's just hope they have some other deals working in the background. Big mistake by Samson/Loria for not bringing in lobbyists to help get the tax rebate. Sure, King and now Byrd let us down, but the Marlins did not help their cause by staying away until the last second.
April 20, 200422 yr Sunshine Network has not aired Marlins games since 1997. Fox Sports Net Florida airs Marlins games and is no longer owned by Wayne, he sold it to Rainbow Media/Cablevision. He only owns PPS and the miserable Dolphins. The Isotopes have their own ownership.

April 20, 200422 yr The city of Miami....Miami Dade County and the state of florida have been dragging their feet for so long now...... i am looking at reality as it stands right now. you are looking at pipe dreams. any other location and a team winning 2 world series in 7 years would not have to fight for a stadium like this team is.... especially when the team has been actively pursuing one. all parties involved on the government side continue to drag their feet, lie to people, have corruption written across their face etc. Trust me on this one, the local governments have done all they can based on the budgetary constraints they have. It's been the Marlins that have entered this with no plan and no idea on how to get this stadium done. They are clueless on how to operate in Florida. They are expecting things that are downright physically impossible to accomplish. That's as much as I can say for now. There is a lot of blame to be pinned on the Marlins here!
April 20, 200422 yr Loria must give it another year to get done. Lowell has the option for next year and can stay. The clause for November can be mutually taken out by Lowell and the team if needed.

Portland is Seattle Mariners territory and Washington is Baltimore Orioles territory. Montreal moving is in doubt, let alone the Marlins, D-Rays, and A's. Baseball territory is very important to the owners.

Exactly I'm not worried about the team moving because that wont happen for sure within the next 2-3 years. I share the same worry that the team might not be kept together and some pieces might be traded away at the all-star break. But I'll give the benefit of the doubt to Loria and say he will keep the players for the rest of the season and try again next offseason and if it doesnt work then we can say goodbye to our players but for now... Lets enjoy this year and go back to defending our 2003 title.
April 20, 200422 yr I wouldn't be pissed like I am if the Miami politicos did not promise us citizens of Miami a stadium for the Marlins. I do not blame Alex Penelas at all, more so I blame people like Manny Diaz who jumped on the bandwagon as quickly as possible... I'd be disappointed if that quote never happened but not angry at the state or county. :mad : :thumbdown
